Ahoy there fancypants,
As some of you know I took the decision a while back to add separate categories for the Saves and Saveless speedruns. I felt at the time it was unfair to more casual/not so serious runners who didn't want to take the time and effort to utilize save strats in their runs, as they are hard to do. Also, Save strats can save a lot of time if RNG is manipulated to the fullest and that was another reason I felt it was unfair on other people.
I however have decided that the split has been pretty pointless after all. Only 2 runners ever submitted to the saves category and that I think is the biggest indication that we needed to go back to ONE leader board. (Also frozenspade kept cajoling me to change it back, and in the end he was right)
As well as Credit Early becoming a thing and adding another variable into the mix, so from now on when you submit a run please indicate if your run was Saveless (standard gameplay) Saves (utilizing save strats) and if you got Credit Early (Opened the shopkeepers safe early in the run without knowing the code).
I have edited everyone's runs (Current and Obsolete) to reflect the changes, if anyone sees any mistakes please let me know in this thread or on discord.
I hope this decision sits well with everyone, and we can now move on.
Hey everyone!
Just thought I would post here and link to the Speedy Adventures Discord
Since this game does not have a dedicated discord (like a lot of games) I figure it's good to get anyone interested in running the game to join in on there.

If you would like to post anything related to CoMI (asking questions etc) then please use the Lucasarts channel. Otherwise feel free to come and say hi 🙂 Hope to see you there.
Hey everyone!
I decided to do some housekeeping and add some important stuff to the leaderboards.
From now on when submitting a run, please be sure to select the correct Emulator you are running on. The choices are:
ScummVM - Amiga ScummVM - DOS DOSBOX WinUAE
Also for anyone who does not know, most people running this game are now using Urquan's updated version of ScummVM. This version runs closer to 30fps than other versions. If you are aiming for quick times I would recommened grabing it at https://www.dropbox.com/s/767muz0n2if7klr/ScummVM.7z?dl=0
Finally, feel free to join the Speedy Adventures Discord, there are many Lucasarts and other games runners there happy to answer questions. Plus most are friendly, sometimes.
Thx for reading Steve

I have added a new level category called Sword Master%.
Simply beat Carla as fast as you can.
Does anyone DARE to go for a 5 insult run with only a 2% chance of winning?
(credit to Frozenspade for the idea)
I have updated the Speedrun Guide to reflect my findings on this. Probably best to go check that out. But I will summarise it here.
As people should know. There are insult responses that can be used against the sword master that actually can work on 2 insults. The first being "family reunion" and the second being "Even before they smell your breath"
Yesterday I accidentally discovered another multi response (I call these Multi-resps for short), and today I found yet another.
So now there are 4 multi-resps we know of. This helps the run out significantly since every multi-resp is worth 2 insults against Carla. So just getting 1 in a run is helpful, 2 is gonna help a lot. 3 or more means having 8 responses (including the starting 2) Which is the minimum you want in the fight to have a good chance of succeeding.
I am curious if there are any more. I am not sure and testing takes time. If anyone wants to investigate please report your findings here.
Hey everyone. The Point & Click speedrunning community has recently got together and decided to organise the First (of hopefully many) Speedy Adventures Marathon. Where many different runners in all sorts of P&C games will be taking part. However this game is not yet represented at that marathon and we need YOU to help us with that.
We are looking for someone to run and stream the game, doing either of the main catagory's (though preferably Any%, depending on who wants to help out) Skill level is not a huge issue although of course we would like to get the highest level of skilled runners possible.
This event is still a work in progress, but we are currently aiming for sometime in May of this year.
If you are interested please let us know by joining the Discord channel here https://discord.gg/FEp37FT. Sign up for run registration by entering your details at the link provided there, and also please use the doodle poll link to indicate your availability in May.
Thanks in advance runners.
So our good friend Frozenspade discovered a glitch recently in the Amiga version.
This glitch allows you to "wrong warp" at the Dread Map screen AFTER you have picked up one of the Map Pieces. Check it out:
Also he has posted a new Any% Lite WR time using this glitch. So what we need to discuss is does this record overwrite the current Lite WR or should a separate new category be created?
I personally am on the side of creating a new one. I feel the any% route (both categores) should be preserved as they are the "proper" fastest way to finish the game and provide the greatest challenge to a runner. The time saved using this glitch is too great and cutting out too much of the run, thereby making it easier and therefore belongs in its own category imo.
How do others feel about this? I have not accepted the new WR yet and would rather wait to get opinions from others before we continue.
So after being tipped off a while ago by Osmorosvo that the Amiga version of the game (playable through ScummVM) has a faster swamp coffin speed, I checked to see if anything else is quicker and how much so. Here are my findings:
During the Opening Cutscene (where you see Scabb Island)
Dos version you have to wait 8 seconds to skip this, on Amiga you can skip it instantly
Amiga saves 8 seconds
The Swamp Coffin ride
To row to the Shack on Dos takes 23 seconds, Amiga takes 12 seconds
To row from Shack to the Shore on Dos takes 19 seconds, Amiga takes 11 seconds
But don't forget you must ride the coffin 7 times during a run (3 times to shack, 4 times to shore). So we have to multiply it.
3 x 12 = 36 4 x 11 = 44 Amiga time = 80 seconds (1 min 20 secs)
3 x 23 = 69 4 x 19 = 76 Dos time = 145 seconds (2 mins 25 secs)
Amiga saves 1 minute 5 seconds overall
The Drinking Contest (from when Rum Rogers says "You drink first" to when you have control of Guybrush again)
Dos takes 29 seconds Amiga takes 12 seconds
Both of them drink from their mugs faster, Rum Rogers falls over faster and Guybrush is controllable almost as soon as he stands up.
Amiga saves 17 seconds
The fall into the Tunnels at Dinky (from when Guybrush's Rope breaks to the scene ending)
Dos takes 7 seconds Amiga takes 3 seconds
Guybrush's long fall is cut much shorter
Amiga saves 4 seconds
So in all playing the Amiga version saves you 1 Minute and 34 Seconds
You may be asking "well is anything slower on Amiga?". The only thing I noticed was the Cutscene inside LeChucks Fortress (after leaving Scabb for the first time) took a little bit longer to skip than on Dos, maybe costing 1 to 1.5 seconds.
So remapping the controls has been mentioned a few times in various threads, however I think its a good idea to have all the info here and not spread out.
For those who don't know, you can edit the games prefs.json file with Notepad. To quote Maerus from another thread:
"If you don't know where the prefs file is, if you go to your Users folder in your primary hard drive and then go into the administrator user folder it will be under AppData\Roaming\Terrible Toybox\Thimbleweed Park (You may need to show hidden files)"
Open the file with notepad and you can now add and edit what you need. For more options you can use, check out the following Post from Ron Gilbert himself:
https://blog.thimbleweedpark.com/options_options
To add a new option, copy and paste it into the file, don't worry too much about where you put it, it's not picky, Just make sure you save when done (and reboot your game if it was already running)
The most useful additions you can make (in regards to speed running) are:
rightClickSkipsDialog: 1 (Skips dialog with right mouse button, when used in combination with . key allows you to skip dialog very very fast)
keyOpen: "q" keyClose: "a" keyGiveTo: "z" keyPickup: "w" keyLookAt: "s" keyTalkTo: "x" keyPush: "e" keyPull: "d" keyUse: "c"
(Remaps the controls back to SCUMM era keyboard shortcuts; P is pick up and U is Use ETC. But this is a personal preference, you may be used to Thimbleweed Parks default controls)
keySelect1: "1" keySelect2: "2" keySelect3: "3" keySelect4: "4" keySelect5: "5"
(Besides Right skip dialog THIS is the most useful, it allows you to select dialog options with Keys 1 to 6 on keyboard. While still allowing you to use 1 to 5 to switch between characters when not in conversation trees)
That should be everything that matters, if I have forgot anything let me know.
Hey everyone.
I have started running this game in Any% recently and I am a little confused about when exactly the timer should start.
As the rules state "The timer starts when the player did the first action with the character. The short cutscene at beginning and dialogue from Indiana Jones does not count. "
So as far as I understand, You skip all the cutscenes, and you also can skip the 2 lines of text Indy speaks when outside the Theater in New York.
However there is a lack of consistency in runs on the leaderboard. The 1st placed run has the runner start the timer as soon as all the graphics have faded in (and before the text appears). The 2nd runner starts the timer (apparently) after the cutscenes are skipped and the 4th placed runner starts when everything has been skipped (as per the rules)
So I am just asking for clarification on this before I start submitting runs. But I'd like to state I have no problem starting when the rules say you should, I actually think that's a good and fair place to begin a run.
NOTE: I have only confirmed this glitch works on ScummVM version of the game (version 1.9.0.2), I have not yet tested DosBOX version and I doubt this works on Special Edition.
After researching this a lot I have figured out how to easily activate the "speed glitch" and it is the preferred way to run the game because it allows you to move much faster, possibly saving 4 minutes in all.
The glitch occurs when you skip the "lucasfilm games" cutscene at the start of the game, after a certain point. Thankfully there is a visual clue to help with this.

Look for the "sparkle" that happens above the L on the left, skip the cutscene when you see this and the glitch should be active.
Don't worry about how fast or when you should skip the other cutscenes, it appears to have no bearing on anything.
So how will you know you have the glitch active? That's not easy to know just by looking at Guybrush's movement. While Guybrush will move across the screens quicker and his walk animation is slightly sped up, this change is not super obvious.
The easiest way to know is by using a timer, which if you are doing a run is very convenient. If you start the timer as normal once you skip the opening cutscene and providing you skipped past the other cutscenes with expediency and moved Guybrush without making any mistakes, then if you reach the door of the Scumm Bar around the 13 second mark the glitch is most definitely active. Otherwise if it takes Guybrush more than 15 seconds to get there it's likely the glitch is not.
Below is a chart showing how long it takes for Guybrush to walk past the poster after skipping the cutscene at different times. Demonstrating the difference in walk speed.
CLICK for Image -> http://imgur.com/CPRIFMi
This chart begins a couple of seconds before the first "sparkle", as you can see the walk speed is unaffected until around 5 seconds, about the time the sparkles begin. The chart ends after the sparkles have ended where the walk speed will be again unaffected.
TL;DR, as long as you skip the cutscene when you see "sparkles" the glitch should work.
So basically anyone running the game should be using this glitch because it saves SO much time, not using this glitch means a huge disadvantage. Also because it is easy to activate is why I am not advocating for a "glitchless" category.
Phew, that was maybe a bit more convoluted then it had to be. If you have any questions then please ask.
I just want to start this off by saying I DO NOT believe that Cryptones has intentionally cheated in the 36:50 run, just that there is a speed difference between that run, runs that I have done and runs that I have seen others do.
Please see the video HERE where I demonstrate the difference between "normal" runs of the game, cryptones WR video and a run I did not long ago where this "speed glitch" occurred.
As you can see there is a noticeable difference between the runs. It's something that was noticed a few months ago but after investigating the footage I could not explain why so I decided against bringing it up.
But when the speed glitch happened to me. (and it was obvious when I got a 20+ second improvement on my 1st split). I knew I had to bring this issue to light.
