I stopped using this site due to the introduction of the email-based 2fa requirement. I think 2fa is important, but going into my email every single time I want to log in just plain sucks. The last time I logged in was before this thread was created. That's how I'm justifying this thread bump lol
Habreno, what the heck are you on about? All users have access to some kind of computer, which is capable of generating these one-time passwords. Nevermind the issues with using email for 2-factor as others have pointed out, everyone who has an email address can also use TOTP. I use KeePassXC on my desktop for TOTP, no smartphone required. Also, TOTP could exist alongside email-based 2fa. There's no reason email 2fa option has to be axed. Email 2-factor could even continue to be the default. I don't know why you seem to think that there has to be one type of 2-factor for every user.
Lastly, I would argue that email is less secure than TOTP. I mean, it's no secret that the majority of email providers are able to read the contents of incoming emails. Yet, the only two entities that know my one-time passwords for any particular site are me and the site itself. Now, do I think email 2-factor is secure enough? Yes, of course. But just because TOTP is more convenient, at least for some people, doesn't mean that it is inherently less secure. This notion of "security has to be inconvenient" is how you get idiotic concepts like password expiration.
I suppose I could mention the option, but ultimately since it doesn't impact the run I personally don't care whether it's enabled or not. I see no reason not to enable the setting for RCT1% runs either.
For controls, I usually push the Wii U power button and pull out a Wii instead.
I remember thinking something along those lines too when someone requested the category a while back. I guess the question is, is anyone opposed to switching the category to not requiring to wait? I suppose the nice thing about making the rule change is that for the runs already submitted I could just retime them to the moment they meet the requirement.
Since OpenRCT2 runs are now allowed for this game, I wanted to introduce a category that permitted the fast-forward feature. However, I thought it made more sense to have this mode respect the time requirement of each scenario (complete by October year 3, for example). I didn't give it much thought since I prefer playing the game at 1x speed. What are your thoughts on the FF category? Should the runner have to wait until year X or no?
I know this is beyond the scope of the thread, but since you brought it up, I think a no cheats category would be great. Repeatedly doing noble sacrifice for money is really tedious and not very fun or interesting imo.
Welcome to the bad admin club ?
Yeah I'll just add it to RCT1 then.
Oops didn't see the post over on RCT1 ? I'd be all for adding it to the RCT1 page but if everyone thinks they'd make more sense here on RCT2, then that's fine. It'd certainly be easier to add to RCT1. Thoughts? What do you think, HotCoffee?
I think it'd be great to have a place to speedrun RCT1 scenarios in ORCT2. Personally, I think it makes more sense to have in in RCT1 since RCT 1 and 2 aren't all that different to begin with, but it could honestly go either way. Would love to hear what HotCoffee has to say about that. Though I'd really like to get rid of RCT Classic runs before adding ORCT2 categories. There was some interest in giving Classic its own page, but that didn't go anywhere. And I haven't seen a single Classic run get submitted since I became a moderator.
I regret to admit that all my videoless runs are also fake. I did it to make a point but have since forgotten the point I was trying to make so just ban me I'm sick of leading this criminal lifestyle. I need to come clean.
Need to get RCT Classic runs moved to a separate game first, I think. It'd be much easier to add expansions if Classic wasn't in the way.
Honestly think there's too many mods still ?

Unless you're well-versed in x86 assembly, not for this game. You may have better luck looking at some of the code for OpenRCT2, though there's no guarantee it'll be identical to how RCT1 does it.

I hate to say it, but unless someone has already documented their findings, you'll probably have to do a lot more guessing-and-checking type experimentation. I think you're on the right track about how the optimal price entrance price varies with the park, but I don't think the same is true for rides. For a ride, I think all that matters are the stats of the ride and how old it is (as the price guests expect to pay goes down as the ride gets older). I'd be surprised if the state of the park influenced how guests felt about the prices of individual rides. But I won't go as far to say that it's an impossibility.
uh yeah you can become mod right now!! CLick here for more info!
Hello everyone.
Not too long after I became mod, Sphinctus approached me about the current situation for speedrunning RCT Classic. At the moment, RCTC runs can be found on the RCT1 leaderboards under its own category. While I think that was a fine place to start, especially to gauge if there was any interest or not, I believe that it needs it's own game entry if it's going to continue to exist. The reasons are as follows:
-
RCTC is its own game. It's a remastered game. There are plenty other remastered titles on speedrun.com that have their own pages. Both RCT Deluxe AND RCT Classic are available for purchase on Steam. And neither one is definitively better than the other.
-
It's not just a remastered version of RCT1. It's a remastering of RCT 1 AND 2. It has scenarios that aren't included in RCT1. Because of this, the RCT1 leaderboards can't completely accommodate RCTC's scenarios. It also doesn't fit in RCT2 for the same reason.
-
RCTC features a fast-forward feature that isn't present in the original game. As a moderator for RCT1, I don't really know how to treat this feature since it is beyond the scope of the game I moderate.
-
I am generally unfamiliar with RCTC's differences and quirks. At the moment I can try my best to look at and verify runs, but the bottom line is I don't know much about the game. Sure, much of the actual core gameplay is the same, but there are many changes that I'm plainly not familiar with.
I'd like to hear what everyone thinks. Is my reasoning sound? Are there any major reasons I missed? Is there any reason RCTC should not get its own game entry? I'd especially like to hear from community moderators HotCoffee and yesimbill as I feel they should be involved in the final decision making.
If you have a setup in the bathroom, you don't even have to stop playing to take that shit. Just a little tip from me to you!
I just discovered Nayuki's near-complete saves. Makes unlocking all the scenarios trivial.
