As @Danthedude123 noticed, wall jumping no longer works. I assume this was probably patched in the 1.1 update, which also added a new level 101. This makes all of our previous runs obsolete with the latest version.
I think we should split the leaderboards by version (past runs on v1.0, current ones on v1.1, later ones on whatever latest version). If an update doesn't change the gameplay, then it could merge with the previous update (like Minecraft).
Also, @Quivvy, if you're too busy with other games to focus on this one, I don't mind helping out with keeping the leaderboards up to date and/or verifying runs. I still consider myself fairly new to speedrunning in general, but I do now have a fair amount of experience with the game and I did see a guide on the site forums on setting up leaderboards. I'll ask you if there's anything I'm not sure about and will run major changes by you and/or the community at large before jumping into them.
I think I will have a look at livesplit and see if i want to adopt any features.
If you want to make an autosplitter, there's documentation for that here: https://github.com/LiveSplit/LiveSplit.AutoSplitters . This can automatically start and end the LS timer at the start and end of the run, and also pause it during loads.
An in-game timer could also do this and would likely be easier to make, but a LS auto splitter would allow people to have some more customization.
(Edit: realized the hotlink was grabbing the period at the end)
BTW, is there any version of this that works for twitch VOD's?
At least on the web app, I don't think there's any way to get exact frames/miliseconds from a video, viewing or editing. Unless it's possible on the desktop app, then that would be impossible.
I don't there's really enough to warrant Category Extensions but that could be added as a Misc category
Not sure about the iOS scene, but there are a couple Android timer apps that can add an overlay to the screen. I don't have experience with any so I can't give you suggestions, but searching the Play Store for "speedrun timer" gives a handful of results and you can try some to see which you like best
You can also check with resources or forums of the game you are running to see if they have any preferences
Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but you could also stream to YouTube or Twitch and then save a highlight of the run you want to save/submit
The easiest for accurate timing would probably be what I did where I mapped the middle mouse button to split in LiveSplit and used it to take the pictures in-game (works just like a normal left-click), then ending time on the last click (second "BE SCARED. BE ANGRY.").
That's not technically the end of the game though, and many older/cheaper mice might not be able to click the mouse wheel, so I support this method. The mouse animation on the play button was only 1 frame behind LS on my vid and the boards only accurate to seconds, so that makes no difference.
Could be the only one here, but I at least would find it helpful.
I prefer to run a variety of games, spending no more than a few weeks on each instead of months on just one game, so I'm always looking for new potential games. Normally I just browse the front page runs, but having a central listing of games that need more runners would be beneficial to both me and the other player(s) of that game.
Is there a section/thread dedicated to advertising quiet/dead/lesser-known games that you'd like others to speedrun? If not, could one be made?
While, obviously, I can't speak for the masses, I imagine this would be welcomed by people who are one of only a small few running a game that think it deserves more attention and competition.
A simple formula could be: Game name
- Price/Platforms
- Genre(s)
- Brief description of the game/how it's run/etc
(Edit: minor formatting mess up)
