As far as our knowledge is Dedel, You can skip cut scenes on a new file if you are running the very first version of the game for certain platforms. PS4 should allow you to skip cut scenes if you revert back to version 1.0.0.

No idea. I imagine that it might be a hair faster, but it is likely not going to be enough to consider it mandatory.

There is a Freeplay RTA Category for all the special assignments (that is what the game calls levels), if that is what you are referring too. If it's playing the levels as if it's a normal any% run, which I'm guessing is what you are asking for, then perhaps the same rules from the Story IL category should apply. I'm kind of skeptical of how many players are going to do this since it's going to have both the classic any% category along side a similar sounding but trimmed-down category that you are proposing. And I don't see the regular Any% category going away anytime soon.

2 Player Any% should be a category. Only the remaster release is able of doing it, since the original WiiU release is single player only.

  1. That is true, it can make it tricky to figure out which levels should be directed to brick banking and no brick banking. For those who don't know what special assignments have the required super builds, they are:

Miner Altercation, Kung Fool, Dirty Work, Colossal Fossil Hustle, and High Steal.

  1. I think for the runners who want to do IL runs on a 100% file, state in the rules "You must collect the required bricks as if you entered the level with no Super bricks" and "You may use as many super bricks as you need to complete the assignment" for Story (No BB) and Story (BB) respectively. Changing the category names to more reflect the game may reduce some the confusion.

  2. I think the brick amount should be what it would be if you were still trying to progress through the main story-line in the Story IL categories.

I plan on doing IL runs along with the Free Play RTA category, both of which for the WiiU.

I've never played it. Based on videos of the game, I think it should be a different category, or a new game on the website. It's completely a different game, from the cars you start with, to how the game plays. I opt towards a new game personally, but we can put it as a different category (likely a Misc) if we don't see the need to do so.

Hello Gadgetman, I'll answer your question about what car to use.

Personally, I prefer a car with good Speed and Grip. Rodger Dodger, and Road Rocket are both very good choices in my opinion, and are the cars I would use all the time for RTA runs on all three leagues. If you are at all confused on what the stats mean in the game, I'll put the Gamecube game manual on the resources tab.

I don't know what you mean by "PC strats", could you please explain what you mean by that? If you referring to the glitch where we power slide after a boost, the trick we call "shuffling", you can do easily execute the same glitch. I found it by accident in 2016 on the Gamecube release of the game.

No, I have not seen that one yet. Good find! I'll keep this super brick in mind when doing runs.

Both categories (Quick Race and Time Trial) will be using the in-game timer.

I've added a Leaderboard for IL runs in quick race and time trial modes. There are two categories because the runner can get different times depending on which mode and track is chosen.

Mist Mountain can get a faster time in Time Trial compared to Quick Race, where as the opposite is true on Space Out.

I'll try to explain replaying any special assignments, talking for the WiiU version. Unlike a good amount of the other LEGO games which has a "Replay Story" and "Play Freeplay" as options when going to play through a level again, LEGO City just has a "Start Assignment" button to begin the level, basically acting as an automatic Freeplay to other games. It seems to be the same case on the remastered release, the top IL runner for Some Assaults and Trouble in Stir on the shows the menu for starting the special assignment where the button to start the level is the same as what I described for WiiU.

I believe that I wasn't clear when I suggested that "Freeplay should allow the use of all of the abilities in any and all levels. Any% (now called Story) should be limiting us to using the abilities during a normal full-game run." I do apologize to anyone who might have been confused and wondering why I would be suggesting this if you haven't played LCU a lot to know how replaying a special assignment works in this game, since it is different from other LEGO games by TT Games and TT Fusion. I also apologize to Ozotuh for thinking replaying a special assignment works the same way as you would expect.

Playing through the game again to get to the Level/Special Assignment you want to do Story IL runs on doesn't seem to be a logical solution to me if the problem is, "you can only replay the level in a freeplay-like mode", especially since there are going to be runners who don't plan on doing full-game runs. I think my suggestion is currently the best work around the issue in question, unless we can think up a better solution.

Okay, I was trying to do Menno's skip in Dirty Work. It's very difficult, and I'm not getting much progress of doing it over and over. Then I did this and it worked.

I didn't think it would work, but it did. It is a little tricky, but I can pull it off most of the time after a few attempts.

I think Trajan's run should be in the Story category. Yes, he using "Chase Undercover" instead of "Chase Suit" for a police outfit and Rex Fury as a robber, which would indicate that he was playing in freeplay mode. But in this instance, it was merely for cosmetics only. If you look at the top Story IL run for Some Assaults on the Remastered version, the runner is using a different outfit than the player one default outfit (Chase's Police and Fire officer outfit design were changed for player 1 on the remaster). He was instead using an outfit that more closely resembles the original release outfit. If Trajan were to use the Jetpack to skip practically the whole first area, then it was indeed a freeplay run. Because he didn't, I see Trajan's run as a Story run not a Freeplay run.

Good finds Menno! I watched these skips a few times and I wanted to give my thoughts if you don't mind.

The Dirty Work setup to skip the the red color swapper is definitely worth practicing. I haven't tested this out on the WiiU yet, but I am certain it will work. I think more runners will use this over the original setup I found a few years back since it looks harder, but at the same time easier.

I didn't know that the speedrun strategies/routes for Smash 'n' Grab and They All Scream for Ice Cream were patched in the remastered release. I do hope both tricks you found will help any remastered runners.

I'm not so sure on the Drill-cutscene skip, as you said it might be useful but I don't know if runners (both Original and Remastered) should be utilizing it in runs. I might need to play around with it in cutscenes to see if it really is useful.

I'm Perfectly okay with that.

I'm not a fan of All Leagues. Having to doing all three leagues seems kind of tedious, especially since it's asking the runner to replay Cloud 9 to Mist Mountain thrice and Emerald Crater to Glacier Edge twice before moving on to Lava Twists.

All Pickups seems like a fun speed run challenge.

Challenge mode is way too short for it to be entertaining to watch and fun to run. It's mainly because you can't do much of anything to make them be faster, it will almost always be over in about 6 minutes. It doesn't seem like run many people would do. Then again, it is my opinion and I could be completely wrong.

Okay, here is the list of abilities for the levels, took me a couple of days to ensure I got everything correct.

I say Freeplay should allow the use of all of the abilities in any and all levels. Any% should be limiting us to using the abilities during a normal full-game run.

By Any%, do you mean all abilities that you would've collected up until that level is allowed to be used? With Freeplay being any and all abilities can be used to your advantage? If that's the case, you might want to make it bit more clear.

By that you mean have as many Bricks as you like before starting the level?
