Yeah, broken for me too...
Only things I've found really are ones with long unskipable cut-scenes without glitches to get around them.
How come? This game has specific start and ends of levels and it's not like you earn power ups or anything.
What would you guys think about having a section for individual level runs?
Nice one. I spent a little while with this a few weeks ago but not achieved what I wanted yet, good to see someone else still cares. I need to get back on it.
You mention breaking the game, has anyone found any glitches or skips?
One thing that had me wondering was seeing people use sound patterns as evidence of cheating, and thought it might be hard to use that as evidence if you're talking over it.
Not that I'm thinking of cheating...
When streaming/recording, what's the general consensus about talking over your recording?
I see not many do it, and I don't know if that's cause they're concentrating too much, simply don't want to or it isn't the done thing when speed running.
Admittedly most of mine would just be an endless string of swear words and moans, so probably wouldn't want to anyway, just curious.
Ah right, no one ever watches my streams anyway (sadface).
I did submit a run 5 days ago and its still not been verified, so get the impression this doesn't get checked a lot. Not that my run was great or anything.
Ah yeah, I know Diamond Heights well. I tried to speedrun that and it seems like the Shuttle Loop route is possibly the best, to beat it you'd need to make something very expensive that test runs fast.
I say about the test run as I think the value gets added to the park's when it gets it's ratings (though not sure). If you could build something like that really quickly you might be onto something. Which could actually be pretty easy.
That's pretty cool though, good thinking. Since it was created in the run I don't get why it would be an issue personally.
Chances are you aren't going to be able to start and stop the timer in the exact frames needed anyway (some games have specific timing methods) and will need to look at the video to get your actual time.
I just find they're good for knowing your pace and see if your current run is good or not. And they look cool.
You don't HAVE to share at all, it's your discovery, but honestly i don't get what you're actually going to achieve by holding it back.
If you wait a month to do the run, and it's not an active game anyway, you've probably bought yourself a record (assuming you can keep the pace for the rest of the game). But if it's a game that anyone cares about (and really this forum has taught me there are very few games that no one cares about) then they'll see it and figure it out themselves and beat you if they're better. Or maybe they'll see it and post about it anyway, then maybe that skip with reignite the activity of the game. Then your skip will be responsible for that activity, except you didn't share it, so no one is giving you credit for it, they're giving it to the guy who posted it and the people who helped develop it to its best.
Personally I'd like to have helped the community and made a bit if a difference to the way a game is run if I was able to. This will only buy you a record temporarily unless you're already good at the game or no one cares.
All that said if you're super competitive (I'm not going to judge if that's the case, fair enough) then keep it to yourself and gamble no one figures it out. Personally one of my favourite things about this community is that despite it's competitive nature it's equally about helping each other as it is being the best. And being the best is only achieved by actually being the best, not having a trick no one else knows.
Thanks. It's more active than I was expecting for a game released in 2001 which isn't particularly famous to be fair. I did not expect people to still be running this game when I decided to dig it out.
What type of run would this be on? I'm assuming a full game run since otherwise you'd be copying that same coaster into the same park, which seems an odd tactic. But there are no rules or runs for the full game yet.. A full game run seems pretty pointless, as your time is entirely based on the timers for each level.
Not suyre if it would be active anyway, but this invite doesn't work anymore. Plan on starting running this game soon anyway.
As someone fairly new to speed running, can someone explain why a skip is not a glitch? Surely you're intentionally doing something the developers didn't want you to to do something the game wasn't really supposed to, which sounds like a glitch.
Well I uploaded the video to YouTube and have edited the run, but it was already rejected due to lack of video. Are the mods notified in any way that a run was edited or is it likely to sit there unnoticed?
People have mentioned messaging a mod, but there is no messaging yet?
I prefer to stream to Twitch, however they've added this super annoying premier thing where it puts a countdown at the beginning of your video and stops it being available straight away. Looking around it appear you can't stop this, which seems insane, is that really the case?
If so I'm gonna have to be making a YouTube channel I guess.
Speaking of this, if I re-upload a run to YouTube, what's the best way to resubmit it? I have a run pending (for over a week now...) with the timer at the beginning which I intend to move to YouTube.
Thanks MelonSlice, I think I've seen one of theirs actually but will make sure I look for more.
I have a few smaller games in mind, just a matter of digging up the CDs from my parent's house, but for the time being I'm starting with the Power Rangers game for the Sega Megadrive (or Genesis for none UK people). Done a few practices already and been able to get my time down. Thanks.
Is there no way to post a video up to Twitch without that stupid timer anymore? Guess I'll have to use YouTube.
So, like a lot of other people here, hoping to start getting into speed running. Been watching a few runs which are impressive and a few of Apollo Legend's history videos which got me really interested. For now just trying to run some shorter games filled with some personal nostalgia that hopefully at least have a small community around them.
