Yeah the rule of thumb is that as long as the video is clear enough to see what’s going on and the audio is clear enough to hear it, then you’ll be fine.
Please show us what you’re typing. If you’re typing the command as shown then it will work, we need to see what you’re typing to see if there is a typo or something.
You can ban anyone at anytime regardless of whether or not a stream is live as long as you are a mod or the owner of the Twitch channel.
?????
Can’t tell if trolling or legit response. It’s not the dark ages, speedrunning has never allowed that kind of stuff outside of TAS runs. Using external software to gain an advantage in a game is the literal definition of a tool assisted run, that’s why that kind of thing isn’t allowed. It’s why Zelda 1 runners can’t have memory watchers open to see what their drop counts are - they have to memorize it and keep track of the counts in their head. It’s the way speedrunning has always been in regards to this kind of stuff and it won’t change any time soon.
Final update for me: I’ve passed on all the info/suggestions I have to the people who can make the changes, so it’s out of my hands now since I won’t be involved in the actual process. Hopefully the changes are put into place soon.
@Slevanas making that mod into a regular mod won't accomplish anything - the only benefit a super mod has over a regular mod is the ability to add more moderators. Otherwise the two mods can still change categories, rules, etc. all the same.
No need to make 3 posts, just lump all your replies into one.
I’m not sure what part of my post(s) you’re referring to as idiotic, but if you’re talking about NTR, to my understanding, it’s custom firmware you can install on a 3DS that allows for a variety of things, including sending a video feed over wifi to your PC. If I remember correctly it’s not the best quality, but it’s much cheaper than a capture card.
Also, bandicam or any recording software won’t do you any good if you can’t capture the console. Plus, I’d recommend something like OBS or XSplit since those are much better than bandicam and they allow you to record or stream.
Also, if the run @Seydie linked is indeed the run you’re talking about, it was probably rejected because for chunks of time (like around 5 minutes in) you can’t see the game at all. Being unable to see the game for stretches of time is probably why it was rejected.
Viewing the game’s memory during the run, even if you’re not changing any values. is pretty much universally banned. If you do that, it’s considered tool assisted since you need to use external software to view it and you can gain extra knowledge from something that is not normally available to a player.
Just a heads up to keep everyone in the loop - we’re probably moving forward with the changes starting tomorrow. Might be a slight delay in getting everything all set up since Draz had to step away for a bit due to a surgery, but she passed on everything she’d worked on related to this with me beforehand so that we can start the process.
The anticipated process will be that all remaining series mods will be removed except for Sonic and all mods will be removed from all games. After that we’ll begin adding the game mods to each game. Most of the current mods (aside from a couple) will be given game mod spots after they're initially removed because they’ve expressed interest in staying on and they know a good amount about some of the games.
This was a pastebin from Draz that covers some more minor details about this https://pastebin.com/ghVLdb8M
It’s only a meme when you run ACE.
-
ISOs are disc images, NES carts aren’t discs (they use ROMs)
-
Sharing ROMs and whatnot on these forums is a no-no.
-
https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/forum they have a discord there, they can probably offer you much more guidance on getting started than we can in terms of what emulators they allow (most NES emulators are accurate so there probably aren’t many banned ones).
Ask the community/the mods of the game you want to run to see if they allow it.
Minor bug - doing an @ to a user with a period in their name ignores the second half of the name
@Gustavo.Predador for example
@GhostT12547 BTrue is incredibly active on Twitter and here.
If you plan on following everything he says maybe you should ask him for mod instead of coming here for it.
If only a full mod explained in this thread that the game slipped through and was accepted by mistake.
Oh yeah I always forget about the lag reduction. My opinion is still the same but you’re right that that makes it impossible to adjust for.
The community separated them because FC saves 18-21s on text. I agree with you and I personally never understood splitting categories like this when text is the only difference because it doesn’t make sense to me to intentionally play on a slower version, but the community has their reasons for preferring English (some people wouldn’t like the idea of someone getting WR on text alone instead of actually beating the WR skill wise, which is valid). So in the end, they made the choice to split.
2Q isn’t as widely run so idk of any guides or tutorials, so unless someone else knows one you’re better off studying top runs to learn it.
I can’t speak for why it was originally accepted, but it was very similar to the short flash games and VNs that the site is rejecting so that’s why it probably ended up removed.
Define “okay”. If your idea works for your LBs and it doesn’t make anything confusing or hard to submit correctly, then it’s probably fine. Run it by the community if you have even a small one for their opinion.
There is no right way to set up an LB, it all depends on what makes sense for the game.
Just pointing out that $30-$40 for older consoles might not hold true for a Mac. I know gv-usb2 doesn’t have Mac drivers and idk if any other cheap SD cards do either. Finding capture cards with Mac drivers is actually kind of difficult in my experience, although maybe I just don’t know the right cards.
