I have a serious question, since I'm REALLY tired of losing runs to some dumb enemies dispawning and then reapearing and blasting me off. WHY do we run on hard? There seem to be no reason to do that as every trick is doable on easy. It only adds frustration to certain parts of a run (General, Escape the Jungle, Save the DEA). If there is no real reason why it is like that I'd like to push a vote to change it to easy. I really like running this game, but losing runs just because enemies who can oneshot me deside to disappear and reappear, or take 5 shotgun shots in a face and not die to then blast me off in one hit - that is not fun, nor it makes game more challenging - it is just dumb. That game has some randomness and still can kill you on easy, but lower levels of insane frustration will definetely help. Really want to hear what other people think, and also learn why hard is the choice.

Leaderboards have been revorked. -Difficulty has been changed to a subcategory for full-game runs. In process of doing so, I accidently COMPLETELY wiped all Serious ILs, sorry for that, please resend them. In ILs difficulty stays as different category, so that table view of ILs represents all dificulty settings. -New subcategory for any% full-game was added - "Run type" with 2 values: "All levels" and "Early MI unlock". This was done due to recend find by Don_Elgorro, was agreed upon discord people, that this is legit way to run game, yet it is very much different from how it was done in the past, so subcategory was decided as the solution.

Ruleset for Any% has become more specific in regards to new subcategory + to look good (it was never good beforehand): -Timer starts after you choose the difficulty before "Jungle" and stops when you finish "Mental Institution" in single-player mode. -New profile MUST be used -In "early MI unlock" you are allowed to finish "Siriusopolis Downtown" in MP mode in order to unlock "Mental Institution". You can set any MP settings. -In "All levels" every level has to be finished in single-player mode. -Entering MP mode to get 10 lives is allowed. -Editing game files or using "sam_iEnableCheats" console command is NOT allowed.

Ruleset for solo ILs has been added to follow full-game ruleset: -Timer starts after you choose the difficulty before level and stops when you finish it in single-player mode. -If loadings were used - submit RTA as your final time, otherwise, use what IGT says. -Entering MP mode before doing IL to get 10 lives is allowed. -Editing game files or using "sam_iEnableCheats" console command is NOT allowed.

On some point that thread might appear in more games than just Sam2 and Revolution. Idea is the same as with revolution - keep track of all major and minor rulechanges, to keep it clear for everyone WHY and WHAT gets changed.

It is correct, that time has been known for long time, however since molotok's upload speed is literal trash (~70 mb/hour) he hasn't uploaded it before since he wasn't satisfyed with that. Also I havent' gotten all missions industrial wr, just any%, and it got beaten yesterday. But glad to see someone being concerned! :D Don't worry though ;v)

Rule "The only rule regarding mutators is that your enemy spawn count may not exceed 300%." has been scrapped.

By people involved into conversation it wasn't found WHY was it limited to exactly 300% and was also tested that optimal for speedrun will be 400% with anything more than that not changing anything in a significant or even slightly notable way. As a result any percentage can be set.

(Votes at moment of poll closing: 5 for "allow any percentage", 1 for "leave it maxed at 300%").

Rule "Using cheats such as Infinite ammo is not allowed" was changed to "Usage of cheats is not allowed. All commands that start with "/cht" in console are considered cheats.". Infinite ammo is a simple option in Revolution and among runners it was decided, that other than being "cheap" there is no reason to keep that rule up even if you rephrase it to "IA is not allowed".

RussiaTezur06 years ago

Idea brought up by TheMaster & mr.deagle. This thread will represent all rulechanges made to game, so that it is clear why and what chages over time. It makes for people who wonder "why is this rule a thing", "why is that allowed", "why is that disallowed" to find answers relatively quick without bothering every single person imaginable.

Even though I will probably repeat some of points that were already made, here goes my feedback.

1 - Hotel. +That venue was a savior, since it was reeeeeeally hot and I'd imagine in Fortnox Arena 400+ people would've just melted along with all the tech stuff. Really glad that same hotel will be used next year. +Ice cream machine and coffee machine are real MVP, ESPECIALLY hot water in coffee machine, which IMO could work for night, because:

  • Need insome warm drink is also constant for some people and just being simply unable to get hot water was sad. No kettle like last year, no microwave oven.
  • Honestly some space could've been used up for a eating room in a simple fashion it was done with Crew Food room. Silent practice, for example, was mostly not silent, could've aswell be a part of normal practice room, while tourney room was mostly unused (unlike boardgames room, that was crowded and could've used more space). Unless it is something that hotel straight up said not to do I don't see a reason for food room to not exist. If smell is an excuse, then storage room by the elevators, could've been swapped with something for that purpose.
  • That's not really a complaint against hotel, but apparently in 2018 some people still can't use toilets like actual human beings. I ran into a toilet being full of paper or being...shitty... at least 3 times!! At least do something, don't leave that mess after you are out! That's just gross and disrespectful to everyone who's attending event.

2 - Side activities.

  • Pinball machines are MVP. Rip Shaq.
  • Great number of boardgames, though I played none, I looked a few up, gonna check them out eventually.
  • Nicely set challenges by people.
  • Sometimes it was INDEED very loud.

3 - Stream/Tech

  • Overall I have no complaints over audio/video/tech, since the only problem I had with it was based on a fact, that I didn't set my stuff in advance. All hard setups were done pretty quick, checks were quick and nice. Great job there!
  • Couch was definetely needed. Chairs were nice and everything, but whenever there were 4 people on stream it was getting hard to get close to properly watch run/comment (or so it seemed to me).

4 - Hosting/DonationReading/Moderation

  • As first time on hosting duty I'd say that everything was made pretty clean and obvious. Can't really compare hosting area to a couch one from last years, but I thought it was alright, for 2 mic setup it was a perfect distance between hosts or so it seemed to me. Everybody seemed to be doing their job nicely, don't have real "that dude/girl was real bad at his/her thing" complaints.
  • Still, some people sometimes on donation reading seemed as if they aren't really getting ready for next reading moment, as if whenever they hear "now we can read donations" they were going to tracker, then not seeing anything, but they already said something, so they feel weird to stop now, so they go "noooo, buuuuut we might want to thaaaaank some of out sponsors proceeds thinking of which sponsor to plug and how - read text or say it differently". This felt soooooooooooooooo weird and sometimes really annoying. Quickly thinking of what to say next time when no donations happen is the first thing you should do when you finished reading donos, it shouldn't be such a surprise! I'm not trying to offend anyone in particular, and everbody who I saw/heard were doing well >=90% of the time and while I might've done some errors and said weird stuff during my shifts - just be more into the job you are doing, 4 hour shift is not long, really.
  • As for hosts, I've seen a couple of very odd intermissions, where hosts somehow had nothing to discuss something or say about upcoming runs/incentives, and so after breifly mentioning them, they proceeded to go through as much of sponsors as they could and cut back to intermission screen, thus spending 80% of 1-2 minute long intermission on sponsors, felt weird and not interesting. ? It seemed that 3 teams were not needed. Sometimes hosts had nothing to do and in night shifts we were approving donations, sometimes no donations were happening for long time (mostly a stream 2 issue), so donoreader there had nothing to do but to plug sponsors inbetween games if they luckily got very talkative runners. Approving donations in general shouldn't be that hard of a job, which maybe donation readers or hosts should be able to do themselves. Whole system, while it was mostly working fine, seemed a bit clumsy. Not a complaint, just a thing that comes to mind.

I guess, that's about it. If I happen to remember anything major, that I wanted to mention, I will put it under edit line. Great event, enjoyed it a lot, even though it might seem, that I had a lot of complaints, I was moslty going in depth on small details :)

EDIT It seemed, that stream 2 on esamarathon2 channel, while a good idea, was less viewed than when it was on GeekyGoodSquad. It needed more push, most of the time I've seen it it was around 800-1200 viewers, while last year 2k+ was happening pretty often, but I might be wrong, people with stats should know that better.

Copying it into Ultimate Doom and Doom II, because people might have questions. Main thread - https://www.speedrun.com/doom/thread/e2kno/1#xwchs

First I need to say that doom speedrunning community is one of oldest in existence and amount of runs done on IWADs (ones that you can find here) is bigger than couple of thousands in different categories, including ILs, TASes, episode runs etc. Ofcource it is impossible to port all that into sr.com without turning it into complete mess. So why creating doom series on sr.com? It is very simple - to provide RTA competetion for most known doom games and to show what game is capable of. Normally doom is about demos, that's how it was/is/will be , but that doesn't mean that those who just want to run game semi-casually (or not entirely seriously) have no chances of appearing on any sorts of leaderboards. That's why we created series page.

!!!!!!!!! Where to find all those thousands of demos? There is one big archive right here - https://dsdarchive.com/ - it is being updated every now and then. Please note, that DSDA is an archive and not just leaderboards, so it has all times for every map, which were ever made and sent there. Also I'd recommend joining doomworld.com forums, for all recent activity inside community. There is also a discord where some people are discussing mapping, runs and stuff - https://discord.gg/zNxGGKQ !!!!!!!!!!

This thread is created for main discussions and questions that you have. Feel free to ask anything here.

Even though I thought that roofs might have some smart strat - there really isn't anything there, you just run down and then savehover, that seems to be faster both RTA and IGT.

sounds like an extremely arbitrary idea to add something which is normally coop feature. Variables makes sense if they just represent how you can play this game, like SSD/noSSD, console, game version (GOG,Steam, other), patch, OS in some cases (Undertale) and so on. But this is just as arbitrary as, let's say, adding DRM scorpion as a variable. And I also don't see ANY benefits of infinite ammo for full run, since you have enough for arena levels that you mentioned and you don't lose time cause you still need to hit triggers. And for Lost Temples, if you do a propboost you end this level faster anyway.

RussiaTezur07 years ago

I've been thinking about running all secrets myself, so I might add that as soon as a run appears from someone.

There might be a bit more mess at LBs than usual. But I'll try to find time (maybe during ESA or after) to: -check rules in each game for consistency; -check every run for validity; -add resources and guides.

I really want this place to be nice and easy to understand and last point is not adding up so far.

so I figured it wasn't clear from rules (how did I miss that) and apparently people took different approach on what's going on with timer at the end of a game. Answer is - Timer stops NOT after last boss is dead, but AFTER you lose control after last boss (UNLESS it happeneds at the same moment, like in BFE). I don't see any reason to stop it earlier since game is still going and ingame timer still counts that standing time until cutscene starts. I now will go over all runs on lbs checking endings. For single-segment runs it doesn't matter cause they just check IGT and are good to go (so if you bring arguement, like Dylaneka's Normal TFE it won't matter, cause it is single-segment run). I will double-check that final RTA is still calculated the same way over all runs. Old games have "Playing time" which is somewhat like "IGT without loads", but I'd rather not use that field, and you have load removal tool for most of SS games now, just check inside your livesplit. I bring this on forum, cause not every runner is on discord. I'll add timing line on Rules for every game mentioned in header of this topic. Discussion here will be closed, please come to discord if you want to talk about it.
