Untick any default values on the variable. If you have a default value set (you need one for it to be a subcategory, so it probably still has it set), it will then "filter by that value" thus making all other values invisible by default.
If you make it a subcategory-variable you can. Except you have to add a specific individual variable for every individual IL you want to add the category to. It's a dodgy work-around basically and it can be really annoying to setup if there are a lot of levels where the category applies, since you have to add the same variable over and over manually.
Actually there was a runner recently who uploaded a video showing how he actually managed to attach a TasBot to his N64 and switch to it seemlessly live to run a TAS "amidst" a session. However I'd say this is a distinct outlier to the norm as the method used was rather complicated and he did it specifically for the "challenge of doing something different". But he did cheat and he did have his runs verified on the board before revealing they were cheated.
Nevertheless, it is possible. He proved that much. (I don't think anyone was really arguing that it wasn't possible though lol).
If you use the most recent version of AviDemux, you can use the "A and B" marker buttons to select the start and end frames of the run. It will then list the exact times of start, end ,and total time spent in-between.
Thanks for pointing this out @IcKY ... I only know the PSX ver myself and we assumed Dreamcast would be the same. Good to find out its not.
Submit your run to the category anyway and we will take a look and adjust the rules accordingly. It sounds like what you said should be correct though since Any% should end when credits play after Dictator and 100% should be after whatever the "ultimate boss" is. (e.g. Shin Akuma).
Hello @DevaPein ..
My apologies, but this rule was added a long time ago when we were less experienced. The board since fell silent for a good amount of time and no one really complained. However we talked it over and you are absolutely right. From now on, bonus boats are allowed. I will update the rules to reflect this.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for the feedback.
Hey dude.
We have actually used WolfMame INP's before on other leaderboards. We will gladly accept a valid WolfMame INP in place of the "emulator window rule". I will update the rules to accurately reflect this as well.
Just leave a link to the INP in the description of your submission along with the version of WolfMame used.
Thanks and good luck!
The latest version (I think 2.5.7 ?) actually has frame markers you can use (the little A and B buttons). Set A to start frame and B to end frame and it it will show down the bottom right all the information you need: Start Frame, End Frame and Total time spent in-between start/end frames.
No different to entering any other speedrun community that already has an experienced runner pushing it. I'd do a few runs myself blind to get a grasp of the fundamentals and then I'd absolutely want to learn what the experienced runner knows.
Also, having 500 hours of experience solo routing the game doesn't mean it takes 500 hours to learn either. Anyone willing to learn from said person is gonna catch up real quick, especially if the tester is open and willing to teach what he/she has learned.
The only real question is, from a routing perspective is everything tapped? is every glitch found? Chances are there is still something that was missed, since testers are only really required to find things that effect the casual experience. Speedrun tricks/glitches can often be much more obscure and difficult to find, so even though a game has gone through rigorous beta testing it doesn't mean that the speedrun is definitely fully optimized either.
No problem,
I also recommend joining the Discord, you can get in contact with us easier there (since notification's arent working). Otherwise I am also pretty active on Twitter and Twitch as well ... send me a message anytime and I will help you out. ;)
Yea the Fixed 14500 cycles is required for the speedrun unfortunately. You are allowed to set the in-game speed to maximum (in the in-game options).
The brief "loss in framerate" that occurs with some hazards and some events is just how the game is programmed, not much you can do about it. We do all deal with it though, so you shouldn't be suffering any kind of unfair disadvantage. (I am curious just how bad you are talking though ... do you have any recorded footage I can look at?)
Unfortunately this game does literally nothing to regulate in-game speed so you end up with performance that differs from PC to PC if you use Auto or max cycles. We do have an "any%" category which allows any cycles settings if you wish to run that category, but the optimal route (going all out max) gives you some ... crazy gameplay ... lol.
If you wanted to adjust the in-game speed to lower than maximum while still running on fixed 14500 cycles .. I think we could adjust the rules to allow it.. it would probably just put you at a disadvantage though because we are running on max in-game speed.
Hey dude .. sorry I missed this. Unfortunately speedrun.com's notification system is broken as of currently ... looks like you figured it out though. Feel free to hit me up on Discord if you have any further questions.
Sorry I didn't see your reply @wakavis, speedrun.com's notification system is broken unfortunately (and possibly you wont see this reply either >_> ).
Just incase you do see this, we ARE hoping to get some form of either In-game-time or time-without-loads system implemented. However there are some issues that are proving difficult to overcome, so it is not a garanteed thing at this point in time. Either way, Real-Time will definitely remain tracked .. but if we can get a solid alternative system such as IGT/ Time wo Loads we will make the leaderboard sort using it and track both.
If you have any ideas or feedback in this regard, I recommend joining the discord using the link on this page as that is where the discussion is largely taking place.
The following changes have been made to the MK11 Leaderboard for Klassic Tower:
- Very Easy and Medium categories added.
- Augmentations subcategory removed.
- Augmentations are now banned.
- PC Users are not allowed to set Special Move/Menu to 60FPS mode (Sorry T_T )
After a month of release its clear that not many people want to do runs on Very Hard for this particular game, hopefully these changes will allow for a larger group of runners.
Augmentations will be banned for the time being as there is no need to fragment/complicate the leaderboard further. We may look at reinstating this category at a later time if there is demand.
As for the 60fps mode menu/specials... unfortunately this doesnt just increase the framerate, it straight up speeds up these sections and is a clear unfair advantage over other platforms. We are currently looking to avoid separating platforms for MK11 if possible, so this is a no brainer.
Please feel free to give feedback over these changes either here or on the MK speedruns discord.
Thanks for your feedback.
We discussed it amongst the mods and other potential runners and we agreed. We have now implemented both Very Easy and Medium categories.
@ShadowFlare7799 MAME emulation accuracy varies on a game by game basis, but is usually considered accurate for most things from the mid 90's and before. 2000+ and 3D games sometimes are a bit sketchy. It is up to each games leaderboard/community to determine whether or not MAME emulation is allowed/appropriate for that game.
If you're curious about using MAME for a specific game, you should ask that leaderboards moderators.
I am unable to add new leaderboards as a series Supermod right now.
Whenever I try to add one all I get is "Error: Invalid Game" no matter what. Doesn't work on any of the series I am Supermod for.
Edit: Just realised this has been posted about 10 days ago ... is it still not fixed? or perhaps its a bug that resurfaced?
Edit 2: This appears to be fixed now.
