It's not cheating. As long as you are doing the button presses, and they can only be done in a way that an original NES controller can naturally be done, it's fine (so no L+R, no U+D).

if that's the case, i'd propose we only need to framecount if a WR was in doubt, or maybe a top 3 time. I don't think anything beyond that needs a framecount/reset removal, and we just leave the reset time in (also incentivizes not doing long resets). We can change the rules to say that's the case for non-top 3 times or something.

I also agree on upper threshold, sitting for five (or however many long) minutes also can give an unfair advantage, what if I just left my stream on for 11 days and did 1 run per day to feel fresh each time (extreme dumb example, but yeah).

Also, how do we count reset time, are you able to wait 8 seconds on the title screen to fix the RNG?

I know in lost levels we only remove loads times, so title screen time still counts to the run time. That's why I've optimized my resets there for New Game runs. The loads are constant time each run (so you only need to calulate one run worth of loads), and i'm mashing on the title screen.

We will be dropping millseconds from the times for some categories and implementing thresholds for the others where milliseconds will be used. This leaderboard is not intended to be taken as seriously as the main leaderboard, and as such, does not necessarily warrant framecounting a very high percentage of the runs that are submitted.

does it need to be longer? I doubt we're going to remove reset times. they are variable between every run so there's no efficient way to do that

this is a category extension, not a main category. if someone wants to run a leaderboard with reset times removed, they are more than welcome to. But I seriously doubt the mods will want to do this.

It's pretty standard in multiple games/runs to include reset times. Learn to optimize that as well.

If you do not see a specific platform on this list, then it is not permitted.

what @periwinkle said ... try checking the options to see if VSync is enabled. If it is, you need to disable it.

Hello,

I was supposed to have my wisdom teeth out this week, but it turns out the dentist was wrong and I don’t need them out.

That will free up time for me to go through the queue this week and knock out any outstanding runs of more than a few days.

After that I will be out of commission for a month while I visit my brother twice in September across the country, who has terminal cancer, then preparing for GDQx after that. So I will be unable to verify all of September.

I’ll help get the queue down to a reasonable size this week.

I will be visiting my brother on the other side of the USA.

"A lot of the clone consoles are notoriously inaccurate. For many games, it might not be a big deal to use those. However, for a game as optimized as this one where milliseconds are significant, we have elected not to accept those."

The emulators we allow are perfectly accurate.

yes, it's been known, but there are plenty of posts where someone "found" something that was known. Usually we say "this is known" and move on :D It's still cool to see people like @Novawolf trying to discover things and have fun with the game

GTAce hit the star block (not 1st pixel) in his record but had a good judges frame (75% of the time you get good judges just as long as you hit the star block anywere).

Just to reiterate, NONE of the SMB1 mods had anything to do with pellsson or darpey's ban on the SMB discord. I can have a chat with those mods and see if we can't get order restored for you and pellsson.

As far as the pellsson rom, Wes and I have long talked about taking up a collection. I can start a gofundme or if you want to donate directly to pellsson, we can find some way.
