This seems to be a new bug on the forums, but it's very annoying. Whenever you make a quote like |quote=| text |/quote| in any forum post (using square brackets instead), and you try to edit, it just doesn't let you edit and turns the forum post blank.
@Hi I'm not too sure if asking about < 4 letter or special usernames is really worth adding to the FAQs, I've only seen a handful of people ask about it
@ShikenNuggets
but I would add something about, just, watching runs
Your point about recommended games is solid, I'll definitely add that watching runs is a good way to find a game you want to try speedrunning (as that's also how I started running).
you have a very similar question and answer towards the bottom, with "How do I become mod for an existing game?", should probably merge these
Not sure how I missed that, I'll combine them and add the point about new mods as it's something I thought I included.
It certainly should always be allowed, but some communities are pretty stingy about video quality.
I've never heard of any community banning phone recordings. Sometimes they have to be WELL MADE phone recordings, but they're allowed nonetheless pretty much everywhere I've went. Ig I'll add a disclaimer to that, that's kinda weird.
About that livesplit section, that's a phenomenal suggestion, I never heard about LiveSplit One, and I'll fix the typo I made.
Also not sure why turbo controllers and pausing the game are lumped into the same answer, those really have nothing to do with each other
@Oreo321 this also answers your post. Honestly not sure why I put those together either, I'll split them apart. As for the pausing thing, I actually disagree with you here, I think most games that use IGT generally ban pausing even if it's not stated in the rules, although I should probably mention that it's not always and that game rules should be checked. There's obviously some exceptions like what Oreo stated, but most of those execptions they're stated in the rules or even as Oreo said
I also moderate 2 games with the same principle. In those cases, pausing/no pausing is separated to different categories.
In which case it should be very obvious that pausing IS allowed in those cases. Overall I'd say a hefty majority of games don't allow pausing in IGT runs, although there's many exceptions to that, so I guess I'll try to make that clear.
I agree that the public shaming idea is dumb, but I'm all for a kind of warning that a player has cheated and what exactly they did so I can look out for it. I also am 100% on board with not removing all runs a cheater had out of fear, chances are a majority of their runs aren't cheated. There's a few examples where this isn't the case like with top track mania runners, or like in the case of Dream where it's virtually impossible to know which runs were cheated, which is why I think game mods should figure out what to do with a player rather than simply site wide banning them (unless they did something like jaypin allegedly did and submit other people's runs as their own to multiple communities).
There's a much lower chance of staff visiting the like 4th page of a user made thread rather than an entirely new thread imo. If there was a mod created feedback thread or sticky'd thread, I'd put it there, but otherwise I'm just going to assume they don't scroll through every single forum post without a reason to do it.
I like the new change. Makes it easier to see what games have runs left to verify and whatnot. Also nice to be able to view multiple videos without having to click back and forth a bunch. That being said, it looks a bit ugly (although with a major overhaul like this that's a bit expected), maybe changing the colors or something will help? (idk I'm not a graphic design kinda guy). Either way, this is the first thing I've seen in awhile that seems like a good change, just wanted to give some positive feedback w/ all the recent negativity around the site.
(For those wondering it looks something like this, and you can keep scrolling down to view multiple runs, navigating through it is 500x smoother and faster than before)
@cevrosa unlike other games/systems DSs and AWDS are still cheap as fuck (if you're in the US/UK). Checking ebay, its was $12 for a AWDS cartridge, and you can find DSes for like $30-50 on the right sites. Not too much of a barrier for entry there. Either way, I'm a fan of allowing emulation anyway, and considering they let me run off a 3DS with twilight menu, I think they'd allow people to run off an emulator as long as they aren't speeding up the game or something. I would include your emulator used when asking and dm @Frozer with any questions since he's the main active mod here to my knowledge.
@RetroPacman https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/kbi68 ^this is the thread that started whatever the fuck this is
If it applies you can. If a mod denies it either 1.) It doesn't follow some kind of rule in one of/both of the categories 2.) They're cringe
@jackzfiml This wasn't meant to be a serious post. Just something I noticed. You do whatever makes you happy.
Implying cyberscore isn't also a mess (still works good enough for what it needs to tho)
