yeah its not showing up. Just make an edited comment with the link to the vid if the hyperlink wont show in the meantime.
I recently saw a policy that said EMU is fine as long as its not world record pace. That seems like a fair stance IMO, and I am aware this opinion contradicts the one I gave above. But PS2 is so laggy, I honestly wouldn't ban it at all, without a specific reason (I know most ps2 EMUs are less then adequate), because it just straight up runs bad.
The worst missions are defend the king mission, the sunset mission on the long road, and the night mission in Magic. But really anything that overloads the screen (rockets cough) will kill the frames.
As a fellow speedrunner, yes. But the way SRC works is any runs you submit (for most games) wont be publicly visible until approved and verified by a moderator. And Moderators are that for a reason, they know this game better then I (not a mod of this game) do.
But again, I can absolutely try. NG+ will probly be a 35 minute run. 20 minutes of gameplay, 10 of loading and 5 of lag. xD
We all have to start somewhere. One of the things i've learned is "trust your mods and follow your game's rules (vague rules are better because you have ore leeway to play around with)." If you wanna run something different do it first then let mods know, unless its gunna be highly contentious. Mods will almost always make way for more runners to join on any game. Even on a new category.
Is the PS2 version viable for running this game on competitively? Would it be akin to the Xbox or more like GCN for loads?
Its a CD as opposed to a DVD, meaning only fat ps2s can reliably play it, if that helps.
Ah. Makes perfect sense, I just have not played in a while. That should be a perfectly viable run, not sure if categories would be NG / NG+ at that point or what, but that can come after you do the run. Heck that may even get me back into the game lol.
Good luck on runs if you do them! Smash the Q-Force.
Any% is essentially "new game". You start from a fresh file and have to use the tanks provided by default and have only defualt treads/armor/weapons etc.
if you meant "New Game +" then, no iirc you cannot repeat missions so there is no run that has all the best equipment, stats, etc.
However, should you run some ILs (provided you are able to) such things would be well suited for your desires.
As an aside, most categories on SRC are created in response to runs, not vice versa. So feel free to run your desired category and a mod SHOULD be willing to make a spot for you.
This is just a fleshed out version of what I was tlaking about in the discord, I'm posting it here for all to see and weigh in on.
These changes take into account the current state of the game, and are designed to show every category as it is intended, as opposed to assuming anything. Also this makes the board more friendly to new runners, though as a con, it potentially clutters the board, so mods should account for this and make categories as needed or hide them as miscellaneous.
A note on Categories & Variables: "Any%" means fastest way possible. Period. However the runs don't do this, they show the game played from a New Game. Something that IS NOT specified as a must anywhere. The rules need fleshed out at a minimum, to include all required components of any run please. The following is meant to help simplify that task.
Category 1: New Game Variable 1: Console: PC / PS4 (Current) / PS4 (Old) Variable 2: Missions: Credits / Main Missions / DLC
Category 2: New Game Plus Variable 1: Console: PC / PS4 (Current) / PS4 (Old) Variable 2: Missions: Credits / Main Missions / DLC Variable 3: Difficulty: (Wot) Samurai* / Strong / Demon / Wise / Nioh
- WotSam runs would be the true Any% runs, however, as TMwtGS is not available after entering NG+ on this difficulty, we need to specify in the rules that it must be included for the run to be considered valid, this is based off the fact New Game runs it, as well as every other difficulty.
Miscellaneous Category 1: Level 1 Variable 1: Console: PC / PS4 (Current) / PS4 (Old)
Miscellaneous Category 2: All Side & Main Missions Variable 1: Console: PC / PS4 (Current) / PS4 (Old) Variable 2: Difficulty: (Wot) Samurai* / Strong / Demon / Wise / Nioh Variable 3: New Game: NG / NG+
Additionally, IL runs would all fall under the NG+ rules for simplicity, and they need expanded upon to include, at minimum, all DLC main missions as well (and by extension all mission that have a twilight variant for now). Additionally, Twilight could be a variable in order to allow for all 5 difficulties to be on the board without clutter.
Please let me know your opinions and weigh in here.
Hey, I am enjoying this game and considering speedrunning it on the PS4 but first, a couple things:
-
Why is there a PC time on the PS4 boards?
-
Why do none of the PS4 runs have vods? Are they not required for some reason?
-
Is the primary difference between PS4 and PC loading times? Or are there frame rate dependent PC exclusive tricks? Or maybe PS4 has exclusive tricks?
Thanks
Is this skip as easy as it looks? What are the steps to replicate this trick? There Isn't a guide up so any tips or references e.g video walkthrough in a run already, would be nice.
Thanks
I'm assuming you only looked at NG and not NG+, becuase If you check NG+ you will see extreme is not faster. In fact its slower by maybe 15 seconds minimum due to extra menu management being required and additional guards. Additionally NG+ is innately faster then NG by about 7m, so most of the activity is located on that front, plus no one runs any NG runs besides for Sparty and Jaguar, the two names listed under extreme, and even then I think both may have stopped for now anyway.
So the main answer is, because no one is focused on NG non-TBE runs, which is arguably more desirable because you can earn the Big Boss emblem, which, even though it's slower, its looks cooler.
So are we allowed to bring power cells and credits from previous chapters in and use them? I think it may be better to use a On Site Procurement (OSP) method as to limit the runs to what is exclusively within the Chapter.
Obviously credit & ammo management would be a slight issue but I'm sure limits can be set (such as in the speedrun we normally like having 9k credits for the linegun in C2 & 10k for the contact beam in C4). And Ammo can be easily dropped before saving.
No, however, I know how to do ILs for this game, because I have been practicing by doing this method. At the end of every chapter you are presented with the option to save at the start of the next level. Loading this save gives you a prompt to start that next level. Starting this way picks the level up at the same place TBR splits, so we could start timing upon chapter loading and end it upon the 'complete' fading away. The only chapter that wouldn't follow this is CH1 but timing is already set for that.
What patch is the game played on? PS3 has the option to update to patch 1.05 (71 MB) or be played on vs 1.00.
Thanks
These are rules that were discussed in the discord, and have, more or less, been chosen to be adopted.
These rules apply to all difficulties and segment types.
NG: All weapons and items must be Procured on Site (OSP), meaning no Password items, e.g Mosin Nagant or Altaire camo, may be used in a run prior to acquiring them.
NG+: Any password items are fully legal.
FOR ALL RUNS: the use of DLC Octocamo is banned from all runs of the game, regardless of region, segment type, etc.
are there any significant differences between PS3 and ps4 game play in terms of mechanics or skips? About how much time would be lost to loads? Would it be worth learning on ps3 to begin with? Is Xbox the same or similar enough situation?
thanks
The video demonstrating the pause trick appears to not be available.
An update, DO NOT RUN THIS GAME ON A SUPER SLIM. Almost all of the above softlocks are exclusive to the Super Slim and YOU WILL LOSE TIME!
I have marked anomalies that still occur on a slim with [Slim Ps3]
I think the rules on emulators being banned are hard set, and the game is pretty dead. If you could show the loadtimes and gameplay was the same or worse, It would be fine by me but I'm not a moderator. GL either way, this game is laggy and rough on the eyes :p
Found this a while ago and forgot to upload it. Not useful currently but maybe someone will; find something.
