Kappa

Imo everything should be as big as it can be. No borders or anything around it.

I'm struggling with my layout though as I have a lack of space to put things that I want on there. Once I'm able to stream in a decent quality though, I can possibly make things smaller and put everything to the left like Josh does without it becoming unreadable.
Providing an option for "gametime unavailable" for runs that don't have a reference for the in-game time.
This.

Also for runs that are sorted at time w/o loads, but only a time w/ loads is specified, in which case it is assumed loads == 0, maybe give the time w/o loads a grey hue instead of solid black/white? Perhaps at the decision of the game mods.

"7 assets" was a category we came up with, that requires the player to do 7 different assets before cap the collector as opposed to one Vercetti, one Boatyard and five Printworks. This allows people to do any of the other glitches (t-shirt, CC skip, jury fury duping, warps), but doesn't actually skip the BY, SSA, CP, PP and KC missions. (Or any of the other missions for that matter)¤

If people show interest in running either category (by doing runs of them, not by a simple yes/no poll) then adding new categories is considered, the same way it has happened for mission%.

¤Note: Jury Fury is not skipped, as the mission is still done. Just in unusual ways. ¤Note: You can 'skip' two of these five asset missions by doing Malibu or Film instead, but this is slower and you're still not skipping missions. So this fact is irrelevant. ¤Note: Cone Crazy has never been a hard requirement for any%, therefore by not doing it, you're not actually skipping it.

Does anyone even want to do runs with cone crazy in it anymore besides the "old-strat" nostalgia?

Old strat run also has the downside that route improvements cannot be found, since then it wouldnt be old strat anymore.

Yeah, except for earlier infinite RPG and M16 ammo, I dont see any need to do any glitching.

VC and SA simply didnt bother to look at the other GTA's at the time.

-Oasiz timed gta3 in the way that seemed most reasonable to him (or maybe he looked what K9 did or sth, although I'm guessing K9's timing is different because SDA) -I timed gtavc in the way that seemed most reasonable to me (actually I looked up how K9 timed it, and somehow decided that that way was the best) -Josh timed gtasa in the way that seemed most reasonable to him (or maybe he looked at what K9 did or sth)

Hi I'm S.

Sometimes people wonder, why are you called S.?

Simple. Sometime long ago I decided I wanted that to be my nickname!

Salutations!

If anything, VC and SA timing should be changed to GTA3's.

Starting the timer on control gain is hugely impractical. For VC it somewhat works, but for SA you're starting the timer on a black frame. (Which black frame? the first one? Why not the one after? Why not the last one?). You're still preoccupied with pressing a split button though while what you should be doing is walking over to the faggio/bicycle.

The only reason you would start the timer on gain of control rather than skipping the intro cutscene or pressing new game is because either A) That's what people running that game have been doing in the past. B) You're an SDA nuthugger.

Technically, by skipping the first cutscene, you have already shown that you have control. In the end, it doesn't matter though until a glitch is found that lets us skip the unskippable intro cutscene. Right now however, the only thing it achieves is change some numbers on a meaningless time unit display. (People should really focus on getting a good run instead of some numbers. I've seen people who started crying on a timing change suggestion because it would turn their run from an x:xx:xx to an x:xx:yy. Shut up, your run is still the same; you still have Zth place on the leaderboards, you still died to that one boss fight and you still got that good RNG on that one level. Heck, I've even heard of people who wanted to change the timing method, solely for the reason that the times will be faster. Well guess what, the times won't be faster, just lower.)

So yeah, right now there is 0 reason to change anything. And if people really want the timing to be the same over all three games, then we change VC and SA to the way 3 does it, because at least that one makes sense.

IMO once a run has been verified, it has been verified.

Taking the VoD down should be okay to me but obviously it's gonna affect things in the case where someone claims that run was verified improperly and wants to issue a reverification.

It really depends on that specific game's community and moderators.

Rules of a game are imposed by the bit of code. Alter the code ==> alter the rules.
S, what developer/designer told the pioneer(s) of GTA speedrunning that a cheat code is not allowed in the "Any%" category. Better yet, what developer/designer told the pioneer(s) of "speedrunning" that a cheat code is not allowed during the speedrun? This never occurred. It's the community who wrote the rules and therefore, it is just as arbitrary as not allowing a taxi in an offshoot category. It's simply the strong foundation of "speedrunning" which makes a person think otherwise.
None of them, but a simple dictionary search of the word "cheat" and it becomes apparent that the codes which are specifically called "cheats" in the game are in fact, cheats. Taking a taxi in GTA4 won't put a fancy 'cheats' menu on your phone, nor will taking a taxi in GTA:VC pop up the big message "CHEAT ACTIVATED" in the top left corner, or decrease the criminal rating in the game towards a negative level called "Cheater", or put up a warning message before saving about cheating, or put an extra item in the Stats screen called "times cheated". Again, a simple dictionary search and it's apparent that by definition, these were put in the game (for reasons unknown) to break the original rules of the game (unless the game is about cheating, which we assume it isn't). Glitches like the replay glitch or game features like a taxi warp, follow the rules of the game and aren't breaking them.

Sure, both cheat codes and taxi warps are achieved by executing the same gigabytes worth of code, but one is accompanied by a "Cheater!" message, the other isn't. Sure, "no cheats" might still be arbitrary, but it's a whole lot less arbitrary than the 4 rules imposed ON TOP OF THAT by classic%.

Speaking of dictionaries, here is a dictionary definition of arbitrary: "based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system." And here is one for shit: "something worthless; rubbish; nonsense. unpleasant experiences or treatment." Source: Google's define feature. Clearly, these two definitions are not the same. I recommend you tell whoever is calling you out for running an 'arbitrary' category that there is nothing wrong in doing so. 3D era runners have to put up with people begging for GTA5, Im sure classic% runners can put up with people begging for any% :D

Now, to come up with a possible solution to everyone's pains: Change the damn name of the category already. There's nothing 'classic' about it.

These are the additional limitations on 'classic%' runs over any% runs, and why there is nothing classic about them: autosave disabled, (GTA2 autosaves after completion of a map and keeps the next one unlocked until you remove the automatically made savefile. Alternatively, trip skip in GTASA can be considered somewhat of an autosave) vehicle density 33%, (Traffic manipulation (both spawning and despawning) is a thing in GTA3, San Andreas and even in Vice City) no fast travel via taxi service, (Looking at GTA:VC here) no video editor warp. (The replay system feature has been abused in GTA:3 since at least april 3rd, 2007.)

The name of the category is more arbitrary than the category itself (why is there a % sign?) and is most likely what is causing most of the bullshitting.

Oh, and the fact that classic% people seem to be doing exactly that what the the masses are/were complaining about: long and useless driving sections in SA & 4, and 'crappy boatlike' driving physics in GTA4. (This one's a bit harder to solve, but since people who don't like long driving with 'boatphysics' most likely aren't interested in classic% anyway, I say send them the same way as gta5 beggars: Banhammer Hell)

partial any% runs don't have a place on a leaderboard.

Full game runners don't have to care about their Los Santos/Roman's Sorrow/Shakedown time. They might get 'WR' in that category, but then continue on with their run. They forget about their LS/RS time in nothing more but "oh that was gold, nice", but that 3 second improvement won't actually be submitted to the LS leaderboard, with the result that the board will be lacking top runs and #1 won't actually be #1.

So, Russian Revolution% races, anyone?

Except cheats were designed to break the rules of the game, hence why they're called cheats.

How is using a taxi the same as entering a cheat code?

There is currently no Tag: The power of paint run waiting to be verified. There's only a run from 2 days ago by you which has already been verified.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally the submission? It happens sometimes :D

Friesland, NetherlandsS.10 years ago
but not wanting to do all of it because it's too long so you do 20%
Just 20% could actually be quite interesting. People have done 42% races for Vice City and the many paths to take and missions to do or not do make it interesting. Although SA not so much since you need to do most of any% before stuff is unlocked. Coming up with a counterargument, then immediately countering my own counterargument. Good job me!
Part of the challenge of GTA:SA is the length, not wanting to run the game because it's too long removes part of the speedrun.
Better find duping then OpieOP

The game that you want to play more of, but have already played to death.

Friesland, NetherlandsS.10 years ago

People are encouraged to run the entire game rather than just Los Santos. Adding a sub-any% category would counteract said encouragement.
