It was confirmed by the Mods @kniferun @Reavez there are advantages/disadvantages depending on Console due to FPS. One of the Mod even posted a table with estimated time save/loss depending on Console. Unfortunately I can't find it anymore. It would be nice if someone re-post that analysis here. Thanks

Hello everyone, I thought it was a good idea starting a new conversation around this topic which I believe to be important for many. Please Console runners come forward and express you opinion.

Just to explain the current state of art.There are proven differences (advantages/disadvantages) between consoles due to an inherent flaw in the IGT based on frame rate. That's the reason why Mods, after discussing how to represent this difference, decided to create a filter "Console type" with the XboxOneX and PS4Pro being together and all the other versions of the consoles being grouped together. Basically Eighth generation Console vs/or 8.1 Gen. which makes sense because same generation console have the same pro/cons.

What I believe to be wrong is the use of filter rather than a Sub category for many reasons. As proven by Mods, 8th Gen console have a disadvantage vs 8.1 gen. and both will have disadvantage versus 9th. gen. console (PS5/XboxOneSeriesX). This denaturalize the very essence of a leaderboard.

Someone can say, "x amount of categories is enough, new sub-categories make the leaderboard ugly" The beauty of a leaderbaord is not important and not even the amount of submissions, fairness and compete on a level playing field is what matters. If there is a PS4 runner, it's important he has it's leaderboard to compete equally. Someone competing for WR will never beat a time made on PS5. (It's not only about WR anyway, even the last person in the leaderboard deserves to compete fairly).

Someone can say, "if you want to see who has WR for a particular Console Type you can use the filter", this argument is not valid because if you look the personal page of that runner, its run won't be showed as WR. Just to make an understandable example, SpeedIdol has the 2nd place on NG Console Hardcore at the moment of writing, he is actually 1st among 8th Gen console, but if you go in his personal page it says 2nd.

If you leave the leaderboard as it is right now, you make this game board a pay to win board. All runs made today are gonna be easily beaten in 8 months when 9th gen console are out, and so people are absolutely wasting their time running this game today.

To make another example, if you leave the board the way it is, it would be the same if you allow infinite FPS on PC, the decision to force a cap of 120FPS is exactly to maintain a level playing field. If there wasn't that cap people with the best most expensive computer would win, this is what's happening on console right now. It's sadly a pay to win. Don't look the leaderboard today, in few weeks it will stabilize with PS4PPo/XboxOneX at the top and next year will all be PS5/XboxOneSeriesX at the top.

Please consider the Sub Category as an option just like, RE0, RE1o, RE2o, RE3o, RE4 and many other games.

@Enderlorean Nobody is arguing with the mods about not having the right equipment. Imagine in the future if/when this game is released to PS5, new runners will beat records just becasue not competing in the same level playing field (assuming FPS plays a role), that wouldn't be fair for current runners. Also PS3 is on the verge to become "Retro", there will be one moment in time when you will find more PS1,2,3 gamers/runners than PS4. :D

Frame rate potentiality of a console and actual frame rate for a game on a console are two different things.

For example, Resident Evil Zero is capped at 30FPS, no matter the console. Basically RE0 runs at 30FPS on PS3, Xbox360, PS4, XboxOne, PS4Pro and XboxOneX. Meaning no run has disadvantage. I don't know if it is the same for RE5, it might be but I don't know, that's why I asked @NoVa. if RE5 has a new better HD graphic on new console it doesn't mean that FPS is not capped at the same level than the old gen, so there may be no disadvantage.

Additionally to be noted, if FPS is really an issue, probably XboxOneX/PS4Pro have advantages against XboxOne/PS4 as well.

Just my opinion if this get voted by the community: If there is any proof of advantages/disadvantages depending on Console generation (even few seconds) I'm in favour to separate them as @farias910 proposed, if not I would keep them together. I was not aware of any difference. Is this the case @NoVa ?

@HerDela please stop making noise in every new thread post. I understand you have you things against the mods, but this post is about New/Old Console, please respect other runners.

@tyler_ry74 it was already proven faster by the Mods, reason why they created the "separation" filter.

Why are we using filters and not categories anyway? Like RE2r for 120/60FPS and like RE4 for Ps4Pro/XboxoneX and PS4/XboxOne. This needs to be voted by the community somehow.

Filter is not a separation used to evaluate a leaderboard, let's not have this discussion again. Who decided this anyway, Mods or community?

Let's discuss this peacefully with a survey or vote before it's too late. I bet you won't find one single console runner in favor of this. Leaderboard is messy and unfair how setup at the moment.

@zgl you mentioned in this thread that PS4Pro/XboxOneX would have been separated in a different category from PS4/XboxOne, but for now it's only a filter. Is there a plan to actually separate them in categories or you changed your mind? I personally think categories would be ideal. This is particularly important to know because if you keep the leaderboard this way all runs are pretty much handicapped against the future runs made on PS5/XboxSeriesX which need to be separated as well, otherwise no reason to waste time running the game on Console now. Does it make sense?

Hi @Liv I do actually live in UK just like you and now I can play with Chinese in my PS4.The way I solved this was:

1. create an US account,
2. buy an US phisical copy (Digital should work as well)
3. Install it while logged with the US account
4. Chech for updates and install the patch 1.01
5. Switch back to UK account, and finally play and run.

Is you Japanese copy phisical or digital? but more important.. have you installed it in your Japanese account and checked for updates? Also you Japanese account must be primary account for the console.

Hello guys, today I tested the route and feasibility of a possible Knife Only category. I was able to finish a segmented run, the hardest part is not what you may think, that is the 2nd Boss the Witch and/or the 3rd Boss the Demon, but rather those big fast animal-like enemies you find in the game after killing the Witch, lots of First Aid Boxes get wasted becasue of them. You need to spare at least 1 for the first boss, 2 for the Witch and 2 for the Demon. it might be frustrating, but I think it's surely possible to end a run in a Single Segment. I have recorder my boss fights:

I would not open the category until someone proves this possible. I may try in the future... maybe. I hope someone will eventually.

I keep running this and I don't even know if this is valid or I'm just wasting time.... Please @Duders add 100% category.

While Waiting a feedback I run again 100% following my rules: This run is much cleaner.

I must say that if the solution is to keep all runs both segmented and single segment, and all runs both timed by RTA and IGT in the same tab the leaderboard was actually better before any change :)

However, I haven't run this category and not planning to do it anytime soon either, so up to you guys I guess.

Maybe a good compromise for everyone could be to revert all changes and simply take "Easy" out of "Miscellaneous". So SS and Segmented runs are separated, IGT and RTA timed runs are separated and Easy is considered less of a meme and more respected because out of "Misc.". What do you think?

I don't think it is a good idea to mix difficulties together, Easy is times by RTA and Normal by IGT. I would keep only Easy runs until someone can prove Normal possible. In that case opening the sub-cat "Normal" if when someone makes it Single Segment.

I agree with @Pessimism. Personally when I got interested in running RE0 I was really surprised to see Segmented runs accepted in the leaderboard in one category, even if that category is Knife Only in the unforgiving RE0. I had never seen that before in any game anywhere.

I appreciate RE0 is probably the most difficult RE out there, and Knife Only runs on this game are mental, but accepting Segmented runs for this reason seems to be a bit of a stretch for me and not a solution.

Segmented runs are funny and nice to watch but they go too far in the definition of "Speedrun". Same can be told for TAS runs for example. They are similar for me in the definition. Interesting but not a Speedrun.

Let's agree Normal Single Segment runs are nearly impossible and even if someone will eventually make it somehow, that wouldn't make it automatically a Speedrun, but rather a messy long challenge run. On the opposite, deciding that Easy is the difficulty to go for Knife Only that would make it a real speedrunnable category, it could be late for spark competition, but I can tell personally I would have given it a try myself 2 months ago when I was running RE0. I started with Segmented Normal and got bored pretty quickly.

My two cents is to get rid of all Segmented run as well as keep only Easy mode, getting rid of Normal and Hard modes until someone proves N/H SS possible in a respectful time (not a 4/6 hours run or so). We could keep an open rule that Normal will be re-added if someone manage a run maybe?

I also propose to do the same for Resident Evil Zero Leech Hunter as well. Open the category "Knife Only" accepting only Easy as difficulty.

Finally, one last reason why I believe this is the way to go... Will you ever see a Segmented run in GDQ? Of course no! Will you ever see a RE0 Easy SS Knife Only run in GDQ? why not? it might.

Hello there mod and runners.

I would like to propose a new category "100%".

What I believe the objectives should be for 100% this game are:

1. Find all 20 main objects (Including Solvent not needed in Any%)
2. Take all 4 weapons (Including Knife and Shotgun not necessary in Any%)
3. Read all files, notes and letters (13 in total)
4. Solve all puzzles (Including the use of the solvent in the wall for the safe code)

N.B. Collect all ammo and healing items is not needed to complete the game 100%.

N.B. Kill all enemies is not needed to complete the game 100%.

N.B. The runner has to show all 13 files and 4 weapons in the inventory before fighting the last boss. If the runner does not show the inventory before the end of the run the submission will result in a rejection.

I run Dawn of Fear 100% following my/these rules this morning: At 32:04 of the video I showed my inventory.

What do you think?

If you agree on my rules and add the category, I will submit this as my first run.
