did you know it's possible to have a cogent argument against something without having hurt feelings over it? Apparently not, according to your dumb ass.

"You could argue that it would be enough to do those internally, but is publishing them inherently bad? I don't think so. "

That's more or less exactly what I'm arguing and I do kinda think it is bad, it's inspiring a fair bit of not exactly stellar reactions from some runners from what I can survey who take a bad impression away from it. It does also kind of initially rub me the wrong way but I don't think it /actually/ hurts other games chances or anything, it's not like there's limited slots, it's more about the perception and presentation and the fact I think it subtly encourages people to kinda half-ass their submissions.

But yeah, I kinda said my piece about this on the discord and flicky saw it so I'm content to have at least, said the thing to the relevant people and it has been heard.

now if you'll excuse me I need to go cry about the fact I didn't submit RE7 and definitely should have

" I suggest more trust in the scheduling committee"

I trust them, I just think first cuts are completely pointless to show people if you're going to do things like this. It mixes the signal and doesn't scan well.

"I don’t see much of a difference between"

The difference is that one run doesn't exist and the other does and may have already had the work put in to be a good speedrun, whereas the run that doesn't exist is a random shot in the dark. Again, why bother with first cuts at all if you're going to scattershot like that?

"Finally, I request that the BotW/NieR/Yooka-Laylee discussion be closed asap. In my opinion, it’s pointless."

It's nice that's your opinion, but last I checked you can't close a discussion because you don't like it.

My main point here, besides throwing shade at people who half-ass their submissions, is that this is like one of many reasons why having multiple cut phases is kind of bad and pointless and there's a reason like every other marathon stopped doing it like this ages ago. You may as well just hold the phone until final cuts if they're so meaningless that runs that don't exist get past the first round.

"Now please do the same message for Nier and Yooka-Laylee. I'm waiting."

Ok!

don't submit games that aren't released lol it's really fucking dumb

furthermore the explanation for it not getting cut is still bad and still a slap in the face that runs that literally don't exist got past first cuts and other games with runs that actually do exist, didn't. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

(for the record, this is not bitterness on my part, I got literally every game I submitted bar the meme past first cuts, but even so it completely rubs me the wrong way)

Why even have first cuts if it's so meaningless that runs that straight up haven't materialized can get a yes?

but again yeah why put effort when you're zeldo/near/youkahlahlah

Is that satisfactory? You seem to be acting like "these other idiots also did the dumb thing HAH GOTEM" when yes they are also dumb, thanks for pointing that out.

lol at a breath of the wild race where none of the people who submitted have a time getting past first cuts and the game was submitted before it even released

remember kids, you don't even need a run as long as you're zeldo.

Seriously though, I find it impossible to not be irked by that in light of like, literally any other game that actually has runs by the person being cut.

like i know there's a second cut phase and stuff and it probably won't get past that but still lol at that

Is the #blind channel on the SpeedRunsLive IRC server still a thing? That used to be the thing for blind races, I have shit all clue if that's still a thing people use or if it moved elsewhere, it's been too long.

" Do another category "Music allowed" ?"

wat

but that's not even a category of the video game and doesn't at all respond to the core issue moderation has with loud music over the game, you seperate categories if it makes the run distinct, not if it annoys the mods to verify

this is such a confusing, bad idea on so many levels

"And what's up with that "just buy the japanese version" argument, come on man, that game is enough expensive so buying it twice would just be nonsense for lowbudget runners. "

it's like seventy bucks, I completely do not buy this argument. It's the price of a regular new video game, with a slight markup for shipping. It is absolutely not a ridiculous budget-breaking thing. Ignoring the fact that price is a non-argument anyway, the price of JP RE7 isn't even particularly high. If you bought RE7 on release, you probably could've afforded the japanese version.

it actually kind of blows my mind how often this keeps being used as an argument, it's a completely ordinary price for an import game and even if it was really expensive it still wouldn't be a compelling argument

" yes it does give an unfair advantage if there version is faster." ¤woosh¤

i'm wasting my time trying to explain this to you apparently

"and it goes again majority speedrunning precedent? Where do u get your logic from?"

the logic of running more than two games in my life

"it's also not uncommon for speedrunning communities to separate languages due to differences."

I get the feeling you've got this impression from your time with Final Fantasy games. The reason those games seperate by language is historical, because the english and japanese communities for those games developed differently and had slightly different irreconcilable rulesets that neither wanted to change.

Read: It only really happens with games that are super old, these days there's no particular reason to split japanese and english communities since everything's far more interconnected now than it used to be. This isn't 100% universal obviously, every game is different, but RE has never split by region before for the minor differences and I see absolutely no reason it should start now.

I tried to explain this to you before, but you kinda just ignored me. I'm getting bored of repeating myself.

"Plus someone that runs the jp version even agreed adding time is the best solution, like what more do you want."

Does not automatically make opinion more valid. Goes against established series precedent, goes against majority speedrunning precedent. Money remains a non-argument. Needing a faster region version is not new, and it's not an "unfair advantage", it's the faster version because that's what the goal of speedrunning is, to go fast, not to be fair across all regions and platforms, the concept of time does not understand fair. Yadda yadda yadda, why do I keep repeating myself.

Please stop regurgitating the same opinion, especially if you already deleted your frickin run from the board and made a show of leaving.

i assume that means your video is private, meaning they can't watch it, meaning it can't be verified.

Set video to not private.

The music being muted is a really big problem for RE rules because they want to consistency of audio for run verification purposes. Music being played over it makes this difficult, playing music that then gets your VoD muted makes it impossible.

That's the argument, at any rate. I understand that.

For whatever it's worth jigfio I also really don't like or agree with the rule at all and it strikes me as a really weird pedanticness when people obscuring large portions of their actual gameplay with splits, facecam, stream alerts, or any other manner of weird visual obstructions are allowed and nobody really bats an eye at it at all. That's all well and dandy, but audio is the thing being zero'ed in on? It seems inconsistent to me. Surely audio is less important than actually being able to see the video game.

for the record this is a rule I will literally never ever break because I know how to use an audio splitter, my runs usually get uploaded with just game audio, not even commentary. I encourage more people to work out how to split their audio just because clean recordings are really nice to have, but I'm not really in support of the rule at all, I can't fathom caring enough to force it on everyone.

(that being said, I don't think this is really up for debate, I'm just saying my piece so that I can say I did.)

Just maybe.

Don't request games before having a run available to post.

Wild thought.

"If one of the censored version runners doesn't mind, I mean he gets the idea that his version is faster by an awkward advantage."

I'm not really saying they're wrong, but we were not all waiting for a censored version runner to go "actually it's fine" before we did anything lol. It's not like living in Japan automatically supersedes everyone else.

The thing I get repeatedly hung up on with the censored version is that if you're going to add time, you need an experienced runner of both versions to get a hold of them and accurately time out the differences between them because there are many minor things about the censored version that could very well affect the speed of the run beyond the obvious snake key thing. In order for that to happen, someone has to get a hold of a copy. If that can be done, we don't really need to split them or add a penalty in the first place because we can get the thing?
