What I'm bringing is:
1 Capture matrix (just like ESA's) PC capable of doing single capture from the matrix 21in B&O 32in Panasonic LCD Mixer Mics are going to be loaned from ESA gear
This will all go into the stream. There's no real use in additional capture gear as we won't have the time, TVs or splitters to make it all work properly. KISS baby.
Anyone coming by train, I'd seriously suggest investing in a folding hand truck to carry your stuff! Lan party basics :D
uh, tldr, drive if you can
Will monitors be provided at all
No. I really can not emphasize enough, this is a first event, testing the waters, and we have nothing confirmed other than me bringing all my stuff as a capture setup. A PC monitor packs pretty flat if you detach the stand and pack smalls around it.
I always wanted to go to one when I was 15-16, back when it was at Newbury racecourse. CRT transport logistics and parents got in my way though!
Bottom left, the 43sqm area that's faintly labelled 'Daily Tournament Zones Speedrunners'
If Josh can bring his PC it won't cost anything. If it's a beast, we'd love to use it for PC runs on stream too
No extra cost for anything in our set aside area. If you need a general admission BYOC seat you must pay. Here's where we're going to be, in our own little corner of the tournament/exhibition hall.
Actual layout - if I can help it - won't be rows of tables like on that floorplan. That would make a sucky speedrun area! ^_^
Basically the way it's worked at Dreamhack is that the event has set aside a comp quota for speedrunners, and that's the way it should be working for us. ¤Zero cost¤ to people booked via the speedrun area.
I've asked Flicky to clarify our entry day as it matters to me too.
It's really really important as many of us as possible bring own TVs, gaming computers and consoles as possible so that a practice/casual/chill/whatever area area can happen. There's ¤nothing¤ provided for us other than tables, chairs, internet and power. We need to make our own magic happen :D
@PunctualUnicorn: Need to wait for Flicky on this one
@Tyzerra: Flicky's confirmed anyone actively helping the speedrun area will get entry (assuming we don't go over visitor estimates). Helping is gonna mean shifting gear, cleaning up, doing errands etc if you're not running or helping me on tech >:]
@Len: Just post your game, real name and estimate here if you don't have any other means of contacting Flicky
@Kitty: Tried looking this up, there's no details on their website yet! https://insomniagamingfestival.com/tickets/opening-times/ - Maybe Flicky's contact can get more info. I'm working on the basis of leaving Scotland Friday morning sharp
@Twiggy: Of course anyone who's already going to the lanparty is welcome over and can submit games
Bumping this for anyone who might have missed it the first time round
I can bring my RGB NES (true pal + ntsc) + Everdrive and my RGB N64 (PAL) which might be appreciated by some
PAL Gamecube also an option but don't see the demand?
Bang: We can do Component on the TVs so long as 480i mode is selected and not 480p
MORE DETAILS!
If you're signed up for tech closer to the event you'll be assigned onto 1 of 4 teams. This will be your team for the week, and you'll know when you need to be on tech. Your team will be 3-5 people, that means you'll be able to share out time to take food and toilet breaks.
Here's the schedule:
There's two groups of people we're gonna need.
- Hosts These guys are gonna be doing most of the stuff you're talking about Graywords - watching chat, reading donations, most importantly filling setup time between runs on camera. It doesn't matter if your English is bad, it'll be cute to everyone watching at home :)
We need as many hosts as possible, with as many backgrounds as possible. A good host ¤makes¤ the stream, particularly if a runner is shy or quiet. We can pair you up with a more confident speaker if you want to dabble.
Edit: Message Flicky if you wanna host!
- Tech Tech makes the stream. Ideally you're a streamer geek, someone who spends time perfecting everything in scenes at home and has a good mic and maybe a mixer that you've spent hours tweaking. Your main jobs will be to set up games between runs and uploading highlights to Youtube while runs are in progress.
Vision mixing will be done in Xsplit (download a copy and practice!) and should be mostly painless. We're gonna be using sophisticated hardware video switchers and scalers so changing scenes over 'should' be as simple as selecting the input preset on the switcher and scene preset in xsplit. You should know how to balance audio, and if you don't, we can send you a primer. I'll help anyone who wants to learn the basics, especially during the 'setup stream' before the event. It's really best done 1:1 and not in a big group session.
The hardest part about this job is long hours and doing nightshifts through graveyard hours. You need to be prepared to pull your weight and step in if someone needs a break. This is a thankless job and the best sign that you're doing a good job is that nobody is complaining.
I'd like to withdraw my run so I can focus my event time on tech
Cheers!
