Update: I have a new favorite way to time runs! Download and read the instructions of this tool: https://github.com/Slush0Puppy/retime
It provides accurate millisecond timing for YouTube videos in seconds. Created by @SlushPuppy/Beta tested by me.
Hello, all! Just thought this post was necessary because it will help mods verify your runs faster.
There are a few ways to time your game, but here's the one I like best:
- Download a video editor like Shotcut
- Load your video into the editor
- Use the millisecond counter to step frame-by-frame.
- Record where your run starts and where your run ends.
- Do the math
- Submit the correct time :D
This process only takes about 3 minutes! While using a timer on your phone may be somewhat accurate, Google says: The average reaction time for humans is 0.25 seconds to a visual stimulus. Keep that in mind for future submissions!
Hey, Portal! I think you just reached your 100th category run with this game -- congrats!
Please put up categories for the game modes.
I just did a speedrun of Challenges - Easy. Thanks!
Edit 2:
We all agree that nobody wants to get near Disqus or any 3rd party app. However, most people like the idea of commenting on individual runs.
Let me know what you think about this:
Necessary Features
- Comments should be implemented through the site.
- Users should manage their own comments and delete those on their runs.
Commenting Options
In profile settings: Enable/disable comments on all runs [ ] Enable/disable comments on game-specific runs [ ]
In global notification settings: User commented on your run [ ] ¤ Notifies user once for all comments on a single run
In followed games default notification settings: New comment in followed run [ ] ¤followed run = run you’ve commented on ¤¤ Notifies user once for all comments on a single run to avoid excessive notifying
On run submissions: Comments enabled on your run [ ] Only allow comments from runners of this game [ ] Allow mods of this game to delete comments [ ] Delete all comments between [date] and [date]
This is just a brainstorm, so please, dig through this and find the flaws! Let me know if I should remove/change/add anything. Of course, it would be best if we could get one of the web devs on this to make changes.
Initial Post (edited)
I noticed that the community is building itself through commentary on the site and game forums. But ...not really. The forums seem to be entirely focused on speedrun techniques and tend to avoid the fun, community building side of things. In SM64 for instance, we only have around 600 total comments. That's our top game!
I think we can develop the way we interact on this site and bring in a lot more fun and technical discussion through commenting on individual runs.
Why am I advocating for this? I watch and run many games on this site. Too often, I get finished watching a run and want to comment on the video and say "great job!" But the only place we can post right now is in the game forum. If we implement commenting below every speedrun, we can start discussions that encourage:
- Community growth and camaraderie
- Congratulations to the runner
- Questions we have about the run
- Run techniques
- Easier contact between mods and users
I think speedrun.com is amazing. It is definitely growing and I'm so excited for its success. With this commenting ability, I believe we can build a more engaging platform.
Considerations:
- Some users have noted that commenting can be a pain for moderators to manage because of spam/approving flagged content. I completely agree and hope there's a way to get around it. Any ideas?
- Others have said that community growth already happens on other websites. Cool -- but that doesn't mean it can't happen on SR.com as well.
Tanks only has 20 levels. 50 and 100 categories shouldn't exist :)
Edit: Gotcha :D
"Disney Infinity will discontinue all online services of the game on March 3, 2017. You can still log in and enjoy your favorite Play Sets and create your own toy boxes from now until March 3, 2017. Thank you for everything."
Will someone run this game before it dies?
Hey, Moderator! Please add some categories for the campaign missions in the game.
Thanks!
