First, it's nice to finally see this game on SRC, as a runner who played and ran some of the other games by eddynardo.

For this game:

  • You should set a game cover (in the "edit game" page), so we don't have a big question mark. What you used as the background image should be good for this.

  • Replace the trophy icons. Either use the default trophies, or make new trophy icons that are meaningful in a way that represents 1st/2nd/3rd places. (For example, you can take the image of the chests from the game, and edit their color to gold/silver/bronze. I did that thing for several of the games I am moderating. I can quickly make such icons if you want). Anyway, using random images as trophies is just confusing for everyone and doesn't serve any purpose.

  • Remove the "No Deaths" category. This is highly redundant, as top times in the "Any%" category are likely to have no deaths anyway; and also anyone who will post their run to "No Deaths" will post it in "Any%" anyway. There is no reason to split between the two, because a run with no deaths isn't any different than a run with deaths, it's just more optimal.

  • Why "Linux" is a platform for the game?

Unless I missed something, as far as I could see the two game versions are Identical. (I compared CoolMathGames to Kongregate, and also compared the top run in each category).

The rules say that level 2 is changed between versions, but I don't see the difference.

I saw some of the runs - there are lot of deaths, but the in-game timer is reset after each death. So it's behaving like a segmented run, I think. I could choose to do some slower but easier routes, and will have a deathless run; but my in-game time would suffer, even though the real time will probably be much shorter.

Hi, non (R&C) runner here. I was just curious about what exactly this PBSPI category means, what is the difference between that and the Max% category, and why top runs on Max% are shorter.

This route is not viable in speedruns at all, but very cool I think. Maybe for a potential TAS or something.

If you are interested, I added the sequel to Fireblob to the site: "Fireblob Winter" ( https://www.speedrun.com/fireblob_winter )

The concept is the same, but the game has 81 levels instead of 28.

I don't know if the forums are the right place for this or not.

Following the strange URL issue in https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/pdl4j , I used the API to find all games that have "http" or "www" as part of their abbreviation.

The results are here, 40 games: https://pastebin.com/0rut1Wus

I made a TAS run for this game here:

There are two main mechanics in play here:

  1. Rapid movement in topdown mode - when moving in one direction, you can go one tile per 2 frames, or 15 tiles per second (game is in 30fps). This make top-down mode movement much more faster than platform mode movement. In RTA runs, platform mode is preferable because it is faster than a human movement in top-down mode.

  2. Ground storage glitch - You can only jump if you are in platform mode and on the ground. You can carry the "ground" state if you stand on the ground in platform mode, and transform into top-down mode. When you transform back to platform mode, you have exactly one frame when your character is in platform mode and also stand on the ground (stored from earlier). In that exact frame you can jump in the air.

This trick can be done RTA, but takes some practice because you need to press the transform and jump keys at 2 consecutive frames for it to work.

Due to how this can drastically change some of the levels, I'm splitting the game into "glitched" and "glitchless" categories, where the ground storage glitch is allowed or banned respectively.

I just came back to the game after a long-ish break.

~~I don't know why the developer did such a thing... ~~

After finding several new tricks, I decided to make an automated run to see what is now the absolute minimum possible time.

Several notes:

  • Everything you see in this TAS is possible to do by a human. Some tricks require you to press or hold 3 or more arrow keys (at the same time), so they require some practice. I might do a guide for advanced movement/tricks if there is an interest.

  • Almost all tricks here use the "mini-pirate" glitch in some variations. When in mini-pirate state, you can enter any crate from the side, and also do a big jump outside of crates.

  • Level 12 route (left chest first) is probably the hardest trick to go for, I didn't manage to find any way to do this consistently.

  • The start of level 15 in the TAS takes exactly the same time as an optimal regular route (put down the fire, jump to the right crate and go to left chest). I mainly did that trick in the TAS to show off.

Final times (in terms of milliseconds by counting frames): Level 1 - 1.666 Level 2 - 2.283 Level 3 - 1.733 Level 4 - 2.583 Level 5 - 2.95 Level 6 - 2.35 Level 7 - 2.966 Level 8 - 4.3 Level 9 - 4.25 Level 10 - 2.566 Level 11 - 4.466 Level 12 - 3.4 Level 13 - 2.3 Level 14 - 6.9 Level 15 - 4.683

I ran this game about a year ago, and I saw it now on SRC and wanted to come back. I prefer to not move to another site if possible, as my times will also show in the Kong leaderboards. Just wanted to make sure it's okay.

Link to the game on Kong: https://www.kongregate.com/games/jazzDgames/foxbot

I assure you there is no coolmathgames lag.

For quite some time I like to try my hands on designing small icons and other stuff. Recently I was interesting in trying to design speedrun.com logos in some of my games. (And designing interesting leaderboards themes in general).

I went through some games on the site, most have the default logo or a simple one, but I'm really interested in those that capture the theme of the game, or mimic the logo/title design of the game itself.

If you know leaderboards with such logos, I would appreciate having some examples, I want to get more ideas or inspiration.

Examples of some logos I made for games that I moderate: https://i.imgur.com/g3wHpAm.png https://i.imgur.com/DnJSqMX.png https://i.imgur.com/dszsekr.png

Examples of other leaderboards with interesting logos: https://www.speedrun.com/goiwbf https://www.speedrun.com/ting https://www.speedrun.com/rac1 https://www.speedrun.com/celeste https://www.speedrun.com/hollowknight

First, how can you play with the zombie king? I don't have that character in the game (version 1.41).

Second, that version contains a character which I assume is new, called "Unstoppable Gun Miner". The objective with him is to touch all the checkpoints in the level, but the gimmick is that he have a gun that can dissolve most blocks, thus you can skip entire areas completely and you can forge your own path. The checkpoints don't have to be touched in order, and you can switch between unlocked checkpoint any time.

I'm new to this game, and while I'm not sure if I will eventually speedrun this or not, I am curious.

How do you make sure to play alone during the speedrun? In my few playthroughs, I always encountered someone else along the way (I'm playing on PC/Steam by the way).

A game I moderate, Temple of the Four Serpents, basically go as follows: There are 4 main sections where you do some platforming and puzzling stuff, and after completing all of them you unlock a "boss battle", after which the game ends. The game is based on cycles of spikes, but they always work the same when you enter each section of the game.

The "boss battle" itself, however, is RNG based. It is a kind of survival mode where you need to stand on a large button which gradually lowers (as long as you stand on it), while having to dodge incoming waves of projectiles in different forms. Some of those wave types require you to jump or leave the button, so it doesn't lower at all in this time, making you slower. I classify getting those kind of waves as "bad RNG", and the difference between bad and good RNG on this can go to about 20-30 seconds.

I personally don't like RNG much, and so I set the categories like this: any% where you have to do anything as normal, and "any% - no boss" which only counts the time up to the point of unlocking the boss battle, and then the category ends. This can hypothetically create a non-RNG competitive leaderboard.

While "solving my issue" of RNG, I don't really know about that. No runner will stop the game at an earlier point, they can always do the final stage with hoping for good luck, and you won't lose anything from that. So, I guess any run for this game will just end up as submitting the same run to both categories, and it feels redundant to me. What do you think?

(This is mostly theoretical because I am the only runner and moderator so I am the whole community and I can probably do whatever I like...)

Recently I got interested in theoretical spliced runs, or rather, how to detect those as a moderator.

There is of course the option to look at the run and watch for any visual abnormalities, but for the question I'm more interested about discovering potential splices by checking discrepancies with the audio. What is the technical term for that?

And can we do that with any/most video editing software? (If I knew the name for this I can read about it further myself, I guess)

I'm doing a little sweep on all the games I'm moderating, and I was wondering about the theme of this one. This is the first game I set up on the site before I fully knew what I was doing.

So, what do you people think about the theme? (hopefully someone still see this)

I don't know if I like the current background image, I think it is too bright and stuffed with details. The speedrun logo font is taken straight up from the in-game menu button, but it's boring. I am proud of the trophy icons though.
