Check out the list of emulators recommended to TAS games for each platform in the official tas videos site: http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources.html
There are everything for old game platforms, like Atari, GameBoy, or MS-DOS.
For PC games on Windows only, there is a program called Hourglass: http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/Hourglass.html The site itself doesn't really recommend to use it because it is an old program without any more support. You can search further about this program.
For flash games, I search a bit myself about that, it doesn't seem like a program to TAS flash games exist. Generally, you can use Cheat Engine to speed up or slow down some games, and you can also write automated scripts that execute button presses at exact times, but they can get out of sync really easy. I used such a script with AutoHotKey to do TAS for one browser game (which was made in html5, not flash).
Just a little note - while any% run is indeed classified as a full-game run, your video should still show the majority of the game. If for example there is an exploit that can turn a 3-hour game into a 2 minutes run by skipping right to the end, a video of that will probably not suffice.
You can't search that through the site, but you can use the API.
This API link will return a shortened JSON of all games under "Homebrew" game type: https://www.speedrun.com/api/v1/games?_bulk=1&gametype=z71pomxr
If anyone wants to search games under a different game type, this API link will return all the game types and their id: https://www.speedrun.com/api/v1/gametypes
Just replace the gametype parameter in the link above to the id of the relevant game type.
Anyway, I personally like to get away from horror games because I get spooked quite easily, and I also despise jumpscares. But I don't mind watching let's-plays or speedruns of them.
The one game that impressed me most is Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Glitchless runs can go under 45 minutes, while manipulating the monster at some points to progress easier without dying. Glitched speedruns are faster and involve a lot of out-of-bounds stuff, and it's really amusing watching the monsters trying to get you while you are above the ceiling or outside the walls.
You can search for games in the textbox in the site header. Let's take Assassin's Creed Odyssey for example, you can search for it and you will get to the game's page: https://www.speedrun.com/acodyssey
There you can view the category rules for each category, and also the general game rules if they wrote it. In the left side, you can see guides and resources for the game, as well as forums for anything related to the game itself. At the bottom left you can see the users who moderate the game.
So, if you have game-specific questions you can ask them in the forums of the game, or directly message the moderators in SRC, or contact them through any of their social media links.
Each game has different rules regarding the verification and proof required from the runner. Follow those game/category rules for the game you want to run, and you should be fine.
Generally, it is recommended to keep the music and audio of the game. Hand-cam is not necessary unless explicitly stated.
You can talk with the mods/community of the games you run for more information, they know about the games more than the general community here.
@xenkaroshi You can "link" a user by writing "@" followed by the user name.
First, how can you play with the zombie king? I don't have that character in the game (version 1.41).
Second, that version contains a character which I assume is new, called "Unstoppable Gun Miner". The objective with him is to touch all the checkpoints in the level, but the gimmick is that he have a gun that can dissolve most blocks, thus you can skip entire areas completely and you can forge your own path. The checkpoints don't have to be touched in order, and you can switch between unlocked checkpoint any time.
Are you talking about https://www.speedrun.com/doom1 , "Ultimate Doom" from 1993? Looking at the leaderboard as a whole, and mostly on the full game categories, this is an active game with lot of runners submitting runs over the years, and several runs were submitted in the last few months as well, so surely this is the main site for the game.
If you look at IL leaderboards, some of them do have lot of runners, but some have only one runner as you said. This is because one cause only - only that one runner was interested in running the level, whatever the reasons for that are.
Running ILs and running the full game require different mindsets.
Welcome to the site!
For your questions - it is more useful to ask game-related stuff in the game forums, or ask the mods directly, because they can help much better than the general community.
Looking on the leaderboard of PSO, there ARE rules defined for all categories for objective and timing. You can also directly message the mods for more explanations, they are not super inactive and have social media links.
I don't have an idea what the Sonic question means, but you can ask in the forums/mods of the relevant game as well.
Ah yes, you sure showed me.
Look, I don't make the rules around here, I'm just told what are they. You did ask why your game got rejected, after all, and I gave an explanation. That explanation is based on the SITE RULES, and after a lot of similar threads ("why my game is rejected" and stuff) you can get a general feeling of whether a game have a chance to be accepted to the site, or not at all.
About my "audacity" - yes, I told you that you have 30 seconds of gameplay in your game, because that is the reality. No point in lying or sugar-coating it. I also really don't know what is your point of personally attacking me or my speedruns, except for trying to call for whataboutism - "your games are bad, so you have no right to say other games are bad". As I said, many games will not be accepted to the site today, and that includes some of the games I moderate - that is the truth of it and I admit it. And do you really accuse me of being the only runner in some of those games (like maybe 90% games on the site)? I don't really have much say in this matter.
"Non-interesting flash games" is also super subjective.
I also never said I was a site mod, those you can recognize quite easily with their icons.
Please keep the conversation civilized.
Ask in the forums of the game, not here.
