It matters how fast you set it up and how many frame-perfect inputs you can do in a row. The WIP 100% TAS by Hartmann uses a similar trick in 5-3, and it saves a few seconds, even with collecting all three star coins. If it didn't collect the star coins, it would save several seconds.
2-6 is an autoscroller, so all three star coins can be collected without affecting the amount of time it takes to complete the level. That one video satisfied the requirements of both any% and 100%
And Ian, the reason the link didn't work is because Jan put a period at the end of the sentence without a space between the period and the link. It looks like it's fixed now.
Here's a video of me doing one of the blue shell superspeed methods:
This is 4 frame-perfect inputs in a row though, so not really viable for real-time.
I'm pretty sure it can't do that.
The Tool-Assisted Speedrun gets a 436 starting as fire mario:
Staring as mini mario would probably be a timesave since you don't need to spend time collecting the powerup.
By the way, anyone who hasn't watched this TAS yet absolutely should; it's amazing.
Thanks for pointing this out. I've only used DeSmuME a few times, and I didn't know it had built-in recording.
Sure I'm fine with leaving the main leaderboard as is. Anyone else have opinions on what to do?
MoistenedWah, Exciton97, and a few other people wanted one because there are a lot of different categories that could be run and they wanted a leaderboard for them. I personally don't care about the category extensions, but that's just me.
True. I guess we could leave them up here as well. The reason for moving them to the category extensions board was to populate it with more runs. In my opinion, it's redundant to have them on both boards.
I moved all the runs from No Secret Exits and All Levels (the Misc. categories) to the category extensions page. I will be deleting the Misc. categories from this page.
Do you guys think we should move the categories that are currently under Misc. on the main boards to here? There are already a lot of runs of those categories so it would be nice to populate these boards.
This website already exists and has a lot of submissions, so there's no real reason to make another: https://cyberscore.me.uk/game/278
I edited the run description and left a note explaining why I changed it.
I wasn't aware there was a capture kit for DSi. I would try to find an email address on that website and ask them for clarification.
As an update to this thread: I go for TAS cycle in every run now and am somewhat consistent at it; probably like 25%. Also with TAS cycle and 8-T1 cycle skip my sum of best is now sub 23:10 Kreygasm
Yeah that's a problem with banning it.
GregLvk found a way to get the blue shell every time for any%... but it involves using a save state. In my opinion, it shouldn't be allowed. What do you guys think?
Yeah I know that the 38s/45s number becomes less accurate as the number of deaths increases, but the argument is that more deaths --> slower run --> doesn't need to be as accurate. Anyway it only drifts by a fraction of a second per each death so it's not that big of a difference until there are many deaths. Also, VC and emu have a slight advantage over DS for runs with more deaths, not the other way around.
Honestly we don't get too many submissions as is, but in the future if we need more I'll definitely add you two.
