To be fair, at least they're not planning to tear down the feedback/bug report threads without putting something else in place to replace them, so if this actually proves to help them get organized and allows them to better track our requests, I'm personally ok with either method.
Though I really fail to see how it would be so hard to put someone in charge of monitoring this thread and saying "ok guys, we got this and this suggestion, thanks for the feedback!" every once in a while, but I'm sure they have their reasons.
I'm starting to wonder if ELO is only reading their own feedback form and nothing else...
@Quivico If I'm to understand the latest news post they uploaded to the site correctly, that might actually start being the case:
The thing is, as it stands right now, the widgets take up about 1/3 of the user profile page's space and the user has absolutely no control about what's shown in there or what to do with that space. In essence, 1/3 of the user profile page is not dedicated to the user at all.
The main issue here is really that it feels this sort of update shouldn't have been rolled out unless there were 1 or 2 widgets already designed specifically for that page. Right now the news feed just feels noticeably out of place and doesn't justify the sidebar's current existence on the user profile, so is it really any wonder people come here to express their opinion about it?
WR numbers aside, I actually would be interested in seeing the news bar being replaced with some stats. Total games played isn't a bad idea. We already had that tracked in the users section, along with total categories. Maybe also something like "favorite game" based on the game you've submitted the most runs to.
I really dig this idea. Going a step further, we could also allow users to define info of their own to display on there, be it a description, their all time favorite game (rather than defining it by most runs submitted I'd prefer to let the user decide which one), etc.
Perhaps they could even show a mini-stream in case the user is streaming. We already do something similar in the main page with a selected stream, so doing it for each user that has it enabled doesn't seem too big of a stretch. However, it's all on baby steps.
@Lieutenant_Boo I found out about this just now and I absolutely hate it. I mean, I understand the idea of wanting to give new runners a handy guide for the usual stuff you'll need, but surely it wouldn't be necessary to nuke custom tools for each leaderboard to do so, right?
I personally don't like seeing the news on my user profile. It's one thing seeing them on a main page, where it's supposed to be a sort of hub of news and updates about the site, but the user page feels like something that should be more private or aimed at the user's info in particular. That's without mentioning the zoom, which still looks a bit odd to me.
Other than that, I like the rest of the update. At the very least they give the impression like they want to get more in touch with the community, which is something that's been a bit lacking lately, so it's a welcome proposal :)
While we are at it, I'll also mention that "TAS" means "Tool Assisted Speedrun", which means the run wasn't made by a human being using a controller, but rather the inputs were pre-recorded and then played using a tool to get a theoretical perfect run (usually impossible for a human to replicate).
Not to confuse "TAS" with "TRASH", since those are just my runs. :P
I can think of a few reasons off the top of my head:
- Sometimes it's an indie dev trying to tell a story/pass on a message to the players.
- Sometimes it's a way of escapism through the means of a simulated life in another world.
- Sometimes it's a cash grab.
- ...and sometimes they just make it for the memes, or just because they can.
You mean back when people used Dial-up connection? KEKW
Using twitch streams is perfectly fine, but make sure you make a highlight clip of the run, otherwise twitch automatically deletes the VOD and the run is lost (usually getting your run unlisted from the boards in the process).
Instructions unclear, run stuck in WR position
PS: Welcome to the site! Enjoy your stay
Buena suerte!
The thing is that if you input "93" in a milliseconds input, then it's 93 milliseconds, not 930 milliseconds. If we make it so that 93 becomes 930, how will anyone be able to input anything below 100 milliseconds?
The real solution here would be to allow boards to be measured in units other than milliseconds (like tenths or hundredths of a second).
Oreo you are a hero you made the 11 Page of this Thread!!
@Backspaced You can temporarily solve this issue by setting the main stream to be hidden. That way the main page will start showing runs from games other than your followed ones, which I find terribly silly myself, but that's besides the point.
Well, it depends. What genres or types of games do you usually like to play? That'll give the biggest hint as to what to recommend for you.
That being said, the tip that usually works for me to find new speedgames is to review any games I liked playing casually (and in particular, games I've played to death and know their mechanics like the back of my hand). If you've replayed it many times, chances are you won't mind doing so for a speedrun (which usually entails resetting runs a lot), and in general it leads you to re-discover the game itself.
