In the game you have the option to skip levels 1-3 by pressing Shift+L (not a cheat code) with the effect of having only 15 minutes left instead of 60 and starting at level 4. So I wonder why don´t you skip the first 3 levels in the any% run?
In glitchless it might not be possible (just guessing) to finish in 15 minutes, but with normal any% it should as the current WR is sub 15 and you save three or so minutes by skipping those levels. As I am not good enough at this game I never tried it, so I don´t know if you can actually pass all the remaining levels, so in case it is impossible my apologies.
Hm, that is really weird. I definetely had lag as you can see in the video, but no frame drops. If anything it should make my run a tiny bit slower and not faster. I recorded with OBS on Win7 64 bit and had the Ammo Pack version from GOG which is no more for sale as far as I know because of the nazi symbols that are forbidden in Germany.
About your run: Did you record the video on 30fps or did your game actually run on 30 fps or both? I don´t remember what fps my game was running at.. need to check. But it would of course be interesting how it compares to the Steam version.
*Edit: Just checked, seems like the fps is messed up on my system, it fluctuates from 15 to over 100 and has occasional lag. The GOG version doesn´t run properly on Win7 64bit it seems... *
I just tried to limit fps with dxtory and starting with 25fps I didn´t get damage anymore with azerim/taklit part, but with 24fps I did. The item freezing is not fps related, I actually solved that problem by using dgvoodoo. I read about it in the german forums where the modern OS installer is and only noticed it a month or so ago. But it seems to fix most if not all the (graphical) bugs, you should have a look here: https://www.speedrun.com/indy3d/thread/3yps3 You may try some older version for Win XP.
Ah, I see now. I remember I couldn´t find a way either besides that small area after the bridge, the platforms just seem not high enough. I also tried chalking in the Tian Shan River at the windmill place, it worked somewhere but it was useless anyway since there is no way to climb up to the windmill from the river.
The "wowing" sound, it is probably the "whoa" in english version. Might be some game sound bugs because different versions, but not sure. The rolling forward from the rope and chalking is shown in this video too: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dro6yfastvqefvg/indyWOW.avi?dl=0
60 fps should be the "standard" since it is the intended fps. Unless we find out that there are still other significant differences which makes runs uncomparable, which would also suck. But so far we only know that very high fps seems to break the game pretty badly, I don´t know if different resolutions or lower fps have a significant effect too.
I don´t really get what this is about, but if it helps finding new possible skips, then why not.
About the monkey key pit bridge: rolling forward from the ropes and then chalk instead of the backroll is faster and easier, but in case you miss the jump and land on the bridge it should be a good backup strat I think. Also why is there a constant "wowing" sound in your savegame. xD
Just tested it, it indeed works. The time save is around 5 seconds.
Added a link to the dgVoodoo wrapper. It improves gaming experience and you can force the game to run in windowed mode, which fixed some annoying graphic bugs for me (Windows 7 64 bit). Especially the annoying menu bugs that can occur when you pick up some items, sometimes I couldn´t access the menu anymore.
How to do it: Copy the dlls from the MS folder to the Resource folder of your game and edit the settings in the dgVoodoo exe.
Here a new video with some tricks, skips etc.
lv03 shortcut: - you need to do the chalk glitch precisely or you might miss the area where you need to be "immortal" and die. The rolling glitch afterwards also needs to be at a certain spot, you can see the boundaries at the end of the video in the outtakes. This shortcut saves 15-20 seconds.
lv06 major skip: - you can skip getting the replacement pulley and save around 1:30 minutes. Getting on the rope is not the worst thing, but running on the rope has a pretty small room for error, one or two pixels off and rip.
lv07 major skip: - you can skip getting the taklit part by tricking the lava monster with quickly jumping back and forth on the platforms. This saves over a minute and the part should reappear in the Pudovkin level. ¤Not tested, but this trick only might work after you reload a save before.¤
lv14 boss strat: - just a showcase of how to quickly deal with the robot boss. He dies with 3 electric hits and is pretty harmless.
Btw what OBS settings do you use, specifically "Encoding", "Video", "Audio" and "Advanced" settings and what sort of capture "Monitor, Window or Game"?? Yours looked quite good and it didn´t chop that much. Whenever I tried to record something locally it always was extremely choppy.
Restructured the Full-game leaderboards a bit so that it looks more compact and all kinds of categories are covered.
Personally not a fan of this kind of part game runs, but they also exist for some longer GTAs and other games too. So I guess I can make these categories and put them into Misc Categories. For the parts after urgons part there is the question with what starting conditions they should be since you can pick up ammo and medpacks from the levels before. But I think it doesn´t really matter too much.
Edit: I made the categories and added your run there. Additional rule is that you can start at any starting condition that is legitimately possible in the parts after Urgon's part (avoiding cheating in levels before to get ammo etc. to not start with bazooka or something.. ). Return to Peru is not necessary and in Taklit's part you are not allowed to skip getting the part, otherwise the category wouldn´t make any sense!
I renamed the "100% PC" category to "All Treasures PC" to be more precise. 100% could also mean getting all medkits and so on.. Also added the info to the full-game run rules that the IQ window needs to be visible after level completion.
@samlab: I saw that you quicksaved in your run, but since you didn´t reload your run counts. The IL runs should be single segment in order to avoid abusing reloading a quicksave.
Try to ask here: https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/63nr7/141
No, OBS is just a streaming/capture software. I just tried myself with OBS and FFsplit (another program similiar to OBS) and i had the problem that wsplit did show up, but the passing time didn´t render on the video while I was ingame even though it was actually running... also the recording was kinda choppy, but maybe my setup was bad. I used Monitor capture (game/window capture doesn´t record the IQ window) and set the region to 800x600 which is my game resolution, screen needs to be set on top left. For wsplit i used window capture. Trying another timing program might work, dunno. Or maybe you can live without a timer? You can always put the video in some program like virtualdub and look up the precise time there.
As for my IL runs, I did record them with Dxtory since I don´t need to capture the IQ window after a completed level. Also I set up my game resolution to 800x600 since that is also the size of the loading screen. That way Dxtory won´t split the recordings into different sized parts.
100% is all treasures, I guess calling the category "All Treasures" instead of 100% would be more correct. Any% is just getting to the end as fast as possible. Furthermore categories are seperated in full-game runs (doing all levels from start to ending credits) and individual levels (ILs). There is also a difference if you do it all in one sitting (RTA=Real Time Attack) or in segments (where you can save as much as you want and edit out failed attempts to optimize your speedrun whenever you want, provided one level follows another and not random saves of course). Another category is "Glitchless" where the use of glitches is not allowed.
So not to confuse you in short you can do: Full-game Any% (RTA), Full-game Any% (segmented), Full-game All Treasures (RTA), Full-game All Treasures (segmented). All of these can also be done "Glitchless" so 8 possibilities in total. Same applies for ILs. Since not many have done a speedrun you have all the choice in the world. I can add the specific category that you want to do to the boards later when you have a run ready.
Also note for full-game RTA runs you would somehow need to record your IQ window that gets displayed at the end of a level, so the mods can verify how much time it took you in those screens since one sitting counts. In segmented runs or ILs that doesn´t matter. Some software like Fraps or Dxtory doesn´t record that window for whatever reason, maybe using OBS with screen capture or something would be a solution.
Edit: And one more thing, someone in another thread noticed some strange behaviour of the game where at really high fps you can clip through some places where you normally can´t. So I would recommend to cap the fps to a max of 60 (if your game doesn´t it itself which it should) since that seems to be the normal fps in this game.
I´m no runner of this game, but as far as I remember the game had three different ways you could complete it: The fists(more fighting/easier puzzles), the team(with Sophia) and the wits path(less fighting/harder puzzles). Fists path seems to be the normal any% since it is the fastest way to complete the game and team path is obviously Sophia%. So Enigme% (whatever the actual meaning of the word is) should be the wits path. Anything else would make little sense, at least to me.
So you think you are capable of? You don´t know what is coming for you, hahaha!
