is this run gonna be accepted or not? According to the rules taking advantages of a glitch on older versions of the 1.0 release should be allowed.
Why is this run considered a "Original Levels" run? I did all the levels! At least I think I did, hard to keep track of all of them.
If this game gets a much more active speedrunning community, and if Sludj or one of the other mods doesn't just add another text channel dedicated to speedrunning this game into the official Wrongworld discord group, then this will get it's own speedrunning discord. I will update this forum when I make a decision on it, but for now, I will use the official Wrongworld discord group as kind of the speedrunning group, this may change later. Here's the link:
Wall jumping in Sneak Thief 1.0 was a bug that if you were next to a wall, you could literally just jump off it infinitely, the best use for this seemingly being in "The Collectors" level, because you can just wall jump through the door on the balcony at the top instead of going all the way around through the back door.
The problem is, this glitch was patched, so here's a tutorial on how to get the specific version of "Sneak Thief 1.0 - Hotfix 3," the one before wall jumping got patched.
First, your gonna need to get the steam console, there's many ways of doing this, but one way is to just type "steam://open/console" in to any browser, it'll ask to open steam, and then just say yes. Then type in
"download_depot 508550 508551 7352770064168848358".
then just sit back and wait for it to download. Once it's done (which it will say in the console once it is) then it will say where it was saved too, hopfully you know how to get there, but if you don't, then by default, it should now in the "content" folder of the "steamapps" folder in the "steam" folder.
That sounds confusing, but you can also just go to any installed steam game in your steam library, right click it, and under the "manage" tab it says "browse local files", once you go here, click back to where it says "steamapps" in the search bar, and then click the "content" folder in here, then to "app_508550" and then to "depot_508551" and from here, you can just open "SneakThief01.exe".
I shouldn't have to explain how to wall jump but just keep jumping while right next to a wall, you'll get it very easily (I hope.)
This glitch has already been found by me 5 months ago, it's called the "Quick Reset" and for good reason, it's been proven to be (mostly) useless, but there IS 1 use for it, and that's a way to restart slightly faster, it can only be used once per run to save time, and you have to set it up before the run too, I used to use this glitch, but when double jump was discovered by me, since you have to reset so much more, and the time save is so small, I decided not to use this glitch in runs. I got the first ever 2:54 in the no major glitches category using this glitch, but even then I doubt it saved that much time, especially when compared to the new tech of just clicking the reset button instead of using buttons. Watch the 2:54 run here:
I think with the 1.0 version being fully released, the legacy version shouldn't be getting any more new maps from now on.
to be honest, I was thinking of the same thing, there will probably have to be sub categories for Any%, Any% no major glitches, and Any% glitchless too. That might get me actually speedrunning this game again.
wait so how did my 5:45 portal-less all levels speedrun get put in the original levels category instead? I’m fairly sure I did all the levels
edit: I re-watched my speedrun, and I definitely did all the levels, unless quitting out just before I start dancing in the crumbling bridge stage doesn’t count, but if so, that’s just some garbo
the regular one doesn't say you can't use glitches, it just dis-allows skipping levels, mainly the oil based one because that one in particular takes forever, but maybe a glitchless category and sub-categories that let you skip levels should exist, but this speedrun game isn't very active anyway
problem is that even if the glitch used to get out of bounds WASN'T patched, then this wouldn't be considered "out of bounds" since they actually added an outside
this just won't work at all for me, I don't know why, but every time when I go into "outbound rules," block "supermeatboy.exe," and then put a name on it and start the OG version, it still freezes, I've tried putting it on OG version, deleting the entire game, and then re-installing it, then making the rule on it, but it still doesn't work, I even tried making an "inbound" rule instead, but that still doesn't work, I couldn't find any other walk throughs/videos explaining how to do this, so I'll just ask how to do it here. Unless this is just outdated.
you just gotta love the minute and a half of a black screen
I made a segmented run of me playing all 5 levels in an Any% w/o major glitches nearly perfectly, and the time turned out to be an 2:51.888... while it will be VERY hard to get this time obviously (because it literally uses 7 double jumps) it is humanly possible, you just have to be a god to do it.
are you sure your happy about it? sounded kinda sad at the end.
jk lol
yeah, if you just lag the exact second you jump then you can get the double jump glitch, it's just that this will almost never happen unless you intentionally lag the game by holding the window with the mouse in windowed mode.
you jump and hold the window at either the same time, or you jump, and then hold the window a frame later. And also the glitch most often works when I don’t hold jump for that long either.
THIS GLITCH IS VERY HARD AND POSSIBLY FRAME PERFECT, I RECOMMEND ONLY DOING IT IN IL'S OR REALLY OPTIMIZED FULL GAME RUNS
So anyway, here's how to do this glitch, it involves intentionally lagging the game by holding the game window like in boss skip, and the glitchy jump caused by holding jump for a specific amount of frames. So you have to intentionally get the glitchy jump, and then lag the game the exact frame before you leave the ground. I recommend practicing this on the high up platform in level 2, I have a video here to demonstrate what the trick looks like. I don't know how to explain this any better, but if you just keep trying, you'll get it eventually.
I don't think there's a way to not make it stutter.
