Remote grenades actually have a limited range before simply disappearing. :(
Starting off, I'd just finish a bunch of runs, yeah.
There were points where I hit a sort of "wall" and thought that I couldn't do better though, like my 1:05 when WR was 59 minutes. In those moments, when doing more runs didn't help much, I kinda analyzed my PBs and tried to figure out how I could do some things faster, and then focused on those. After a while it came down to minor optimizations in driving and stuff, and then to the point where fast consistency isn't even something to try doing, it's just something I do.
Enough of this, again I'll be damned if making it "non-misc" actually does anything but it's not my category as said before so it'll be there until 2-3 months have passed without effect, or if another mod makes it misc again.
This is clearly not going any further for now. Gonna lock.
I did say that having it misc wouldn't prevent competition from happening necessarily but yeah sure, let's unmisc it for now and see what happens. If more people run it as a result, then all is well. If nothing happens, then experiment failed and I would want to make it misc again. I'll go with 2-3 months, to see what to do next. If some other mod wants to intervene with my decision then they can.
Also Crook, thing that happened with VC was, people kept complaining about the dupes and look at where it is now. People went to claim their free PBs and then most just straight-up quit. Good to see that you're trying something to prevent that with happening here, even though to be honest a lot of the actual runners haven't been against duping. (not all, just a lot)
OK then what was my post before that about? I literally dumped every opinion of the category I had out there but then you brushed it off as bullshit reasoning. Your post was most definitely bickering because all you did was talk shit.
Upon further investigation I see that you mention wanting it to be competitive and fair. I've mentioned before that I'm willing to work with you, but you don't seem to actually want to do anything other than just tell people that they're stupid because they don't agree with you. Just make it known right now what you want to do so I can do something about this landfill of a """discussion""".
They've always been kinda dead categories with little active competition, save for VC all missions at some points. This is not my category though, it is yours, so I'm willing to see what the best way to unmisc it would be, because from what I gather it's a pretty important thing for those who are running it, even though I don't think that'd affect the category's existence. I'm not settling with S's decision as being the final decision, and I won't reverse it either, but discussing changes is better than just acting so I'll be on hold.
warcryptic: Are you saying that just because a few people think it should be a main category, that it should become one? And that not doing so is selfish? I'm not sure if that's what you mean, because that makes VERY little sense. You don't just come up with some category and BAM it becomes the next hot new thing. Yes, there is a group of people interested in the category. Yes, the category exists. It definitely is not a main category though, that's just a given. I have a feeling that its "misc" categorization means just about nothing and that people will still have some regard for it as a category, even if it's hidden. Cyber and Crook and Zoton and whoever else wants to run it can give it more meaning, and I'll be damned if people still don't give a shred of a fuck about it based solely off the fact that it requires one more mouse click to reach. Like, All Robberies in Vice City was truly a meme. It got to the point where new runners were resorting to "Robberies%" before doing Any% stuff. It was still a misc. category though.
Also, to go back to your Any% 7 Assets comment, it was made so that you could use updated strats except for asset duping, which is a major skip, while All Missions here was made to avoid dupes at all. Not like that's much different, I think you'd agree. (Actually, no, but here's hoping that you do.) However, if you're here to cause silly drama by calling out the entire community (save for some others who don't consider themselves a part of it) instead of doing what your first post suggests to try to do, then just leave, lol.
Crook: Who even called it a meme? I have not seen anyone refer to All Missions as a "meme". Just because it is under miscellaneous categories for now does NOT mean that it is just a meme. Also it was literally just created, you can't expect everything to be perfect right off the bat. There were "undefined rules" as you say and I do agree that they should've been there in the first place, but it's not like we can do anything about those runs at this point, 'cause they already happened. Things can be changed for the better for the future runs of All Missions, but I definitely think that working together on the matter is gonna be infinitely more productive.
Cyber: Your post looks like a lot of bickering and it might be better that I don't comment on it. Lemme just say that I'm posting what I really think, and that I'm doing my best to exclude any bias. Also, If I'm getting what you're referring to here, I'd rather this not become the SA version of the Classic% Ending C thread.
edit: to your second post I can say that S mentioned the arbitrariness of "story", though I did suggest that before as well in #gta.
Everyone: What we can turn this thread into is more reasonable conversation to agree on a result. This thread looks like it's going down the toilet because people can't be reasonable. That's coming from the person who is younger than you. I'm tempted to lock this thread, and then the actual point of this thread would have to end up elsewhere, maybe even in a Twitch chat.
** TL;DR -- All Missions is not a meme. Its misc status doesn't mean that, and if anything people won't care that it's misc either and will have some regard for it as a category regardless, because of the people choosing to run it. Also, let's discuss reasonably. **
OK, so Vice City "Any% 7 Assets" should be a main category too, even though only three people have done runs of it ever. Makes sense...
not really.
If anything, All Missions always was a misc category in every GTA game. There were created as 100% practice categories. I have to admit that I did take VC all missions quite seriously for a time, but even though all of the GTA All Missions categories have clear-cut definitions, they have no place being main categories. Sure, they aren't "meme" or gimmick categories, but that doesn't automatically mean it is on the same level as Any% or 100%.
Yes, I know that people care about All Missions a lot more than 100 Tags, or to reference VC again, a lot more than All Unique Stunt Jumps. That doesn't change the fact that there is nothing about All Missions that you can consider as "game completion", except that you do Any% as part of All Missions. Beating the final mission gets you to the credits, and therefore is considered by many as beating the game. Completing the game 100% is just that. All Missions is only what you'd run to avoid having an "Any% No Dupes" category, and is nothing more than a mission version of "All Oysters" or "All Stadium Events".
Now I am not against the category existing. As I've mentioned before in some other post(s), I'm all for it being a thing. But it does not deserve to be made a non-misc category in my opinion, unless there's enough competition to warrant it being made main.
Minor thing, but it'd be nice to have "nationality" and "location" as two separate things in the profile, so that if I moved to Afghanistan then people wouldn't be asking "WOAH YOU'RE FROM AFGHANISTAN??", it'd just say that I'm from [country] and that my location is [place]. I got that when I changed my location to Egypt for a day while I was there. Even though I'm from there, I live in the US, so while that question with "EGYPT" replacing "AFGHANISTAN" would be true, it still confuses people.
[10:09:47] <mhmdfvc> I've been wondering about something for a while [10:09:57] <mhmdfvc> whether or not campaign runs should require the scenarios to be done in order or not [10:10:13] <mhmdfvc> I did a glory of greece run out of order but it feels odd
Speedruns don't usually stick with what's intended in a game, but to me it doesn't feel right to do the last scenario where your civilization is at the top, and to end it in the first scenario where you're in the Stone Age or something. I have to admit, this may sound like a very dumb argument, but let's go look at the intended scenario order. If you start from a fresh player profile, you have no choice but to do them in that order. Sure, you could just HOME RUN or I R WINNER your way through them all and then do an out-of-order campaign run, and I really don't have a good argument against that, but I don't get the vibe that it really feels "proper". Also, every single campaign run that is up on the AoE series leaderboards has the scenarios done in order as far as I know, so it wouldn't even affect anything currently up.
There could be a rule where you'd be required to create a fresh player profile for campaign runs for every reset past the first scenario so it's less "NG+" or however you want to call it, but I don't see the need for it really. Just an idea that people might wanna think about.
For the other side's sake, free scenario order would allow for more RNG-heavy scenarios to be done earlier on, and would be more convenient for grinding.
Personally I'm in favour of having and enforcing a rule that requires any campaign run to have done the scenarios in order, because, while it's possible to mess with the order for the sake of convenience, it just contradicts the point of the campaign in the first place. I'm not sure how many people who are interested in AoE runs will even see this post but I'll give it a go.
VOTING 1) Add rules for keeping the intended scenario order for campaigns. This does not include doing campaigns "in order" for All Campaigns. 2) Leave it so that the scenario order can be decided on by the runner.
If you have more to add, please do so. I need more opinions.
I'm gonna add them under "ROM hacks / Mods" since they aren't part of the original game/expansion, and they're basically just glorified mods anyway. If you want to be in charge of moderating these, just give me a shout.

It's on easy. I'll be sure to show that menu in the videos I submit in the future though.
I finally got around to working on a better autosplitter, and, thanks to LiveSplit being easy as fuck to make autosplitters for, I made one in like an hour. I added it to the resources section on the left.
If you stick "IL" at all in the category name, it will automatically restart the timer when you restart a map. Otherwise it will not restart automatically at all, as there is no way to really tell when you're intending to restart for campaign runs. Restarting a single map doesn't warrant the restarting of the entire run sometimes, so for now that'll have manual reset needed.
Nov. 29, 2015 -- Fixed autosplitting when saving / restarting maps, and then it not splitting after having beaten a map in which you saved. It should be functioning properly on RoR 1.0 and 1.0a, will re-add vanilla AoE support when I'm not lazy (soon)

Agree with S.
All Missions would be interesting but I have some doubts as to whether people would run it or not. You sound like you would, Cyber, but dunno about others. If there are 2-3 times for it then it will make sense to add it, with using "duping skips missions, so don't dupe in this category if it skips missions" as a proper excuse.
tl;dr yes
You should ask for an invite to the Hayai Kawaii twitch team, basically the speedrunning weeb team

This is because, according to the game, this is 100%. It's synonymous with Rockstar 100%, and having the word "Rockstar" there is kinda pointless. You can discount my opinion if you'd like (as I don't run GTA5) but this has zero to do with the game, and more to do with what it actually is as a category.
Also, if you take a look at SA, 100% on the leaderboard is named simply as "100%", and not "100% (Rockstar)". There is viability for a separate "True 100%" category in SA as well, so my suggestion is to rename current "100% (Rockstar)" to just "100%", and add a "True 100%" in due time (i.e. when people actually do it).
I don't think Omega has a run up to there to show the entire route change, but he does have a video on the new method of doing Misappropriation.
I can't remember how terrible this segment of my PB was, but I don't think I failed anything major and it shows what you'd do after Intensive Care up to the start of Black Project.
TL;DW do Meat Business after Intensive Care, keep Ambulance / take a better car if you find one, do Fish in a Barrel / Madd Dogg, then do Misappropriation after Freefall with the Shamal, and then fly to Black Project. Saves ~40s according to Omega's tests.
Canada, U.S., either one doesn't matter to me. Canada would be a new one for such events though. If it were to be in the U.S. then perhaps do it somewhere more centralized. I saw Chicago being a possible location and I think that sounds alright, alongside Toronto.
edit: I have a week off at the end of March so that's ideal for me
PogChamp Kreygasm OneHand
warning: it's not as cool as it sounds.
Pros:
- You save like 1-2 seconds maximum
Cons:
-
Hard to time killings of the last 2 dudes before the cutscene where the haitians take the money. Also slow.
-
If you're slow to the gate, you lose time setting up the glitch.
-
If you fail to slide first try, you lose more time in replays.
-
You can't break the door off during the Diaz call.
-
If under the north bridge, you won't get to the heli before the call ends.
just... meeeeh.
