In no way is this set in stone (though, I can't imagine 5 years from now this rule will be reinstated). In my mind, taking action and actually making a change gets people thinking and discussing better/quicker than if no change was suddenly made (hopefully for V as well). The point about keeping it in line with consoles should be dropped because features in the "Classic GTAs" differ between console and PC versions and the speedruns of these games differ as well. If anything, this keeps IV up to speed with the way things are handled with these games. As for wanting there to be "more rules", hey, if there had been a rule which stated "mission fail warping is not allowed (using the phone)", I'd be following it today just like I follow the "no taxi warping" rule. The thing is, no one ever made this a rule and in all honesty, it wouldn't add much. You use this for, I think, two missions. Another thing to consider is the "benefit of the doubt" factor. Deathwarps have to be allowed because when you die, you deathwarp, and trying to prove that someone intentionally died would quickly become a messy situation. On the issue of retrying missions through the phone, which is almost always results in a warp, it'd also become messy trying to enforce this. Do you know how many times I've accidentally retired a mission with the phone when I didn't want to? I'm not sure if this has happened to me in a run, but it definitely has during practice and casual play. The problem is they have the retry option directly after opening the phone and an accidental "double click" has happened to me many times. On top of creating a messy situation with the enforcement of these rules, they'd also create a sense of worry in runner's minds as they hope they don't accidentally do something which breaks the rules, (mainly thinking about mission retries here) sort of like accidental cheats in SA. You really can't "accidentally take a taxi" or "accidentally load an autosave" or "accidentally select the video editor and actually start it up". None of these things have EVER happened to me, but accidentally retrying a mission and accidentally dying have. Lastly, I can't ever see myself going back into the menu to change the density from 1 to anything else. You're going to end up losing more time than you'd ever save bothering with the menus during the run.
I've tried a handful of missions multiple times and have yet to get the drug mission to begin during the fade-out. Nearly every time I try a hitman mission, it works.
I've noticed that the hitman mission marker causes Niko to come to a dead stop while on foot, as well as in a vehicle. This happens with other mission markers as well, but only when in a vehicle. While on foot, from what I can remember about all of the other missions, you can run through the marker and keep on running during the fade-out. So, there's a clear difference with this marker. I'll have to figure out which other markers do this as well. If you know of any, let me know.
Well, not quite duping yet, but possibly getting closer.
Firstly, I have no idea if my movements or timing have any effect on the final outcome because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and I have no idea why. If I didn't specifically mention something below, that means I have no idea if it's necessary or not. I got it to work for the first three hitman missions (crosshair missions), but it only led to infinite loading, never crashing though. Give it a try, if you'd like, try other missions too and help find duping in IV, because you know you love IV. OpieOP
This is what I do in the video:
- Get into a vehicle which has a police computer.
- Navigate to one of Jacob's activities (just don't pick "Job").
- Press "E" (hotkey for police computer) and "Enter" (selection hotkey) at the same time. (Jacob should begin to be called for only milliseconds and then the call is cancelled. I feel if done """correctly""", you shouldn't see the "Jacob likes you more" indicator appear along with his blip on the mini map)
- Quickly start up a vigilante mission (the first selection on the police computer)
- Call Little Jacob. (You'll either hear the dialogue or beeps and I have no idea why you hear one or the other)
- Navigate to Little Jacob on the phone and select "Job". (You'll hear beeps)
- Position the driver's seat over the mission marker and wait until you run out of time on the vigilante mission.
- If it "works", you'll see that the Jacob's drug mission began during the fade out for the hitman mission.

@Nos > The moment they appear, press your clip capture button (probably is F2 for you) with clip capture turned OFF (you can do this from the menu on the same screen with "New", "Load", etc.)

Zoton, I sent you a message on Twitch.
Using this downgrader: http://gtaforums.com/topic/753764-relsasteam-downgrader/
Purchased on Steam. Using the latest version. My problem? The downgrader gives me the "unknown version" error after clicking "next" on the "Find Directory" step. I've even reinstalled the game just to see if that would help. It didn't. I've searched online and see other people have this problem, but I've yet to find any solution.
Segments 1 - 13 add up to equal 1:02:26 (10 seconds of each segment video on SDA are dedicated to showing SDA info. I didn't include this time)
Segment 19 is Search and Delete which is 2:43. 2:25 of segment 20 is Easy as Can Be. Added to the time above, this equals 1:07:34.
At the beginning of each segment, the latest auto-save file is loaded which takes about 9 seconds (9 x 15 = 2:15). At the end of each segment, the stats menu is shown for about 5 seconds (5 x 14 = 1:10). 2:15 + 1:10 = 3:25, 1:07:34 - 3:25 = 1:04:09.
So, the Any% time of the segmented run's "Roman's Sorrow + Brucie" takes about 1:04:09. My Classic% time PB is 1:06:01. Not sure if they include the 5 seconds per segment taken to show the stats menu. I'm pretty sure the 9 seconds taken to load the auto-save file at the beginning of each segment are included in the final time. If they do, the time ends up being about 1:06:24.
I don't think beating the segmented run's time will be that difficult if I do an Any%, especially if my single segment run is timed in the same manner (see below).
Edit: I see a segmented run is manually timed. They don't count the load times. Does this mean they don't count the load times of loading a save AND the load times of missions (anywhere from a couples seconds of a cutscene all the way up to the full cutscene + the loading... afterwards)?
If Most Wanted% is accepted, the theme from "COPS" must play on repeat for the duration of the run.
Death warping to the mission "Undertaker" will spawn you with a suit, even if you didn't have on a suit upon death. (this includes the "smart shoes" as well)
You spawn just down the street from the church (about a 20 second run, 10 second drive)
Some levels, like Practice Swing, don't benefit from a SS playthrough, pre-mission vehicle setup such as a waiting taxi or faster vehicle. Requiring the missions be started from the phone was just a way to set some sort of standard. How many missions benefit from a "pre-mission vehicle setup" and if there're only a handful, can you name them for us? People can always get a savefile for before each of these missions. Hopefully there's less than 12.
I no longer feel starting the mission through the phone should be required.
So, can a mod go ahead and add "Level Leaderboards"?
Example: http://www.speedrun.com/smb/Light_Forest
IL example video (will reupload to include mission selection once the leaderboards are set up):
The only way this would work would be if we allowed the use of the weapons cheat before replaying a mission. That way everyone could begin with full "everything". Either that or it's the less convenient play on a "zero times cheated" save file and purchase everything you need ahead of time at the gun shop. Personally, I don't care and this is imagining a hypothetical situation where there're tons of people competing for these times. There's absolutely no harm in allowing the use of the weapon cheat pre-mission. I ask, what is the harm, if any? You're never going to be able to prove someone used it unless there's extensive "proof policy" which needs to be covered within every video.
For an IL time to be considered "Valid":
- No cheats used during the mission
- Game files cannnot be modified in any way
- Proof video must include the end screen which shows the final time
I was told that when you replay a mission through the phone, you begin with a default loadout (weapons, ammo, health, armor), but this doesn't seem to be the case now that I tried it. Maybe this won't end up working out.
Let's get some IL speedrunning going on with this (these) DLC(s).
How I see this working (potential standards):
- Removed. You're not required to exclusively use the replay feature.
- Removed. See next post.
- You're told your time upon mission completion. This would be the time you post.
- Mission 100% objectives do not need to be completed. As long as the mission is deemed "Completed", you're fine.
- Any%.
I found out about this from a SDA thread: -> https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/gta_4_rerun.html. This was discovered by ExplodingCabbage, as far as I know.
Important info to know which precedes this part of the game (this is what I follow):
- Make sure you have at least one shell in the combat shotgun after killing Dardan. This can be achieved by triggering the cutscene (no attention shot).
- Pick up additional ammo from the shotgun guy in the apartment during "Concrete Jungle". (DO NOT switch to the sawn-off, just run over the gun)
- Before the turn, shoot Ivan as much as you can with either the pistol or SMG.
- Take the turn you see him take in the video. (the turn next to the propane tanks will leave you with less time)
- Shoot Ivan, not the car.
- Watch the video:
Just found this while searching through SDA posts. How many more major time saves exist that seem to be unknown to all except a few on SDA? Kappa ....half of these segments are unlisted and I believe there are no more than 10 in existence as of now. This saves about 20 seconds.
I did a partial Most Wanted% run the other day which I ended early, ended stream and minimized the game. Later on, I opened the game back up and got myself over to the first Roman mission, "It's Your Call", and started it up. I decided to go to the clothing store immediately after getting in the cab. To my surprise, I was able to buy clothing. You're not supposed to be able to do this before the point in the game where you're told to buy some clothes. Not sure what caused this. I wish I would have continued on with "Three's a Crowd" to see if I wasn't required to go back to the store, sort of like the mission completes immediately after dropping off the girls.
Any ideas as to how this happened?
