Not sure. Is Black just '04 slightly updated? If it's different enough from Black it should have it's own leaderboard. A community for '04 very well could be the community for Black (don't know enough about these games). Something you'll notice with speedrunning is most speedrunners, regardless of game, get very few views.

In my experience over several years of speedrunning, you can't really network a game at all. I'm not even really sure what you mean by "get the word out". If you're referring to "helping the community grow" around your game, it can only happen naturally. No amount of shoving your run and/or favorite game in peoples' faces will get them to care. Your best bet is to join the already existing discord for NG like Dave suggested.

Some tips for submitting a run to a GDQ: Your video really should just be the footage with voice over commentary at most. A small timer maybe, and definitely not a webcam. It's still pretty early to be creating a submission for AGDQ. GDQ staff expects you to be grinding your game right up to the week that submissions open. Maybe your run is perfect and nothing should change, maybe not, idk. Be prepared for competition from other NG games and maybe even other '04/Black runners, and I hope you take rejection well, because most submissions get rejected.

@vampirekiller21 3 out of 4 of the mods are active. Contact one of them if you think they need help. If they ignore your request you can't use this thread to go around them.

That other game you're referring to was probably added at a time when game requests weren't as strict.

I would try streaming attempts for sure.

Some leaderboards allow for runs that are super long to be cut up into several videos, but that's mostly 12 hour+ stuff.

Capture card doesn't have to be expensive, but for PS4 you probably want some HD capture thing and I'm sure a half decent one of those isn't cheap.

I'm not even commenting on whether or not the particular game mentioned in this thread should or should not be rejected (I'm not even going to check what game it is). I'm just pointing out that SRC has been moving towards controlling the quality of content on the site. Google sheets is a tool and can be used to build leaderboards, as well as track your own PBs. SRC is definitely more than just some tool. It's much more community focused and as of late, they seem to care more about quality than they did several years ago.

It depends on how you use the site, I suppose. Not everyone will use the site the way you do. If I didn't go out of my way to follow runs, and all games were accepted automatically, the main page for SRC would be bloated with terrible games made for some college kid's midterm project. Might not matter to you, but matters to others clearly.

I agree though that the wording of the rejection reason is a bit lazy though.

They have to draw the line somewhere. Understand SRC gets requests for some of the worst, bottom of the barrel flash games and so on all the time. The problem is they would have to keep any game request rules incredibly vague, as rejections should be handled case by case. It's selective quality control and only looks like bullshit on the surface, but the site would be overrun with terrible games otherwise.

It's very clear the creator of that video does not care about SRC, GnG, whether or not the moderators are doing their job proper, or about being honest. I think he chose GnG specifically because the title is recognizable in name only. While it's a classic for some people, it's very much an inactive speedrun.

Creating a TAS with the intent of not only trying to get moderators banned (he makes every attempt to show their names when possible), but to use the acceptance of it down the road to try and catapult himself into the bubble of "the speedrunning community sucks so I'll shit on it to make money" is obvious and laughable.

His response video to being banned just cements how much of a con job it really is. Taking the route of the victim, propping up his channel and discord, and putting on display other certain "famous members of the speedrunning community" chiming in on his video makes his goal that much more clear.

Not knowing the finer details of what happened, when it happened, I can't speak on behalf of the moderators. What I can say is that moderation isn't a job. It's not something that is handled by top men who skim over every frame. And what might be an obvious TAS to some, might not be the same to others. I'm not sure if they just accepted it without viewing it, or what they did, but the fact that the cheater in question didn't submit a WR time makes his intent even more clear.

I can say from my own perspective that the reason I try to take verification seriously, and the reason I take so long to verify, is because I've dealt with and rejected fake and/or cheated runs in the past, and the interactions with those types is never fun. I'm just one guy though, and I can't skim every run completely, so one may have slipped by, but I feel I've caught them all. Still, I can only imagine what would happen if some kid with no intent other than to further himself got a fake run past me...

Maybe the OP should hesitate attacking moderators when he's merely an outsider looking in. I will say though thanks for pointing out the existence of that video, as well as that channel. I look forward to pointing to it when people ask me why others cheat.

The Arkham games are far from being "lesser known" as far as I'm concerned.

If it's something you wish to pursue, I would suggest picking games that aren't only even more unknown, but are also interesting to watch (as in they are both fun to watch, AND have plenty of tech).

Whatever you do just remember to ask runners for permission to use their runs, some people aren't cool with that.
