High score runs are the exact opposite of a speedrun. They have their own goal (get the high score), but it's about how long you can play the game, not how fast you can beat the game.
If we go by your logic we could keep stretching the meaning behind SRC as thin as possible. Why not LP leaderboards? What about point system leaderboards for vs fighting games?
@realabruzzi That's not really SRCs problem, and it's not like things are much different here. You run into a lot of problems with trying to force speedrunners to moderate high scores. So you'd have to add mods that deal in high scores. At which point you might as well make separate leaderboards entirely (whole new game pages) at which point you'd be better off making a whole new site. I feel like I've made this point before, people should read the thread.

I clicked on that leaderboard and didn't see any rule stating roll in air was banned. I didn't see any rule stating that in the series wide rules either. So I'm not sure where you're getting that info.
The series wide rules also states that runs can be grandfathered in if they were done before a certain rule was set in place, kind of an iffy way to run things but w/e.
Well it's an old cartoon network game if that helps. Pretty sure site mods care more about there being a complete example of the speedrun in vod form. From that they can determine if it belongs on the site.

It's for uploading your splits through a site like split.io so others can see where you lost or gained time. It's not required for run submissions.

I'm trying to engage in the discussion at hand, I'm not sure if my post didn't go through or got deleted, I'm not sure which, but I'll restate: A leaderboard is a great tool for helping build a community, and should be used as such, to help facilitate one. I can hardly see a reason to deny this.
Yeah a leaderboard doesn't make a community. Some leaderboards are made and then nothing comes of it for years.
But it certainly helps lol
Personally I just think a "speedrun mode" puts a lot of thoughts into the player's mind about how the game should be played. I'm more a fan of these things occurring naturally rather than them being intended, since that kind of defeats the idea behind speedrunning (not doing things the intended way).
Then again I'm big on "less is more" and when I see new indie and/or retro throwback games slap on 10 different modes, I just lose interest. I still go back to Shovel Knight being a great recent example of just making one solid ass game. Haven't played since 2014 so for all I know it's different now, but the upfront simplicity of the game made it very appealing.
It's always going to be a case-by-case thing. SRL made blanket rules for emulators because it's just a site for racing, not for verified leaderboard rank stuff. Makes sense there, not so much here.
I'd like to extend an offer for moderation to the metroidvania community, for this metroidvania title. Curse of the Moon brought in a lot of "classicvania" speedrunners and retro enthusiasts alike. I feel like this has alienated some of the metroidvania community from wanting to interact with the discord server and the leaderboard(s).
So I just wanted to make a simple offer for metroidvania runners to join the server and possibly help moderate this leaderboard, since you're the ones who will most likely be taking the game as far as it can go.

I wouldn't call it cheating. You certainly know more about the inner workings of the game than anyone else, and probably played it more than anyone else, but it's still your skill in the game against other's :p
