Big nostalgia for the game and kind of arbitrary which version to get, so just in case, is either better for speedruns? (regarding any downpatching or the like)
Just a heads up since I stumbled on this again: the category exists!
I know people are doing them (just like they do ultimate dragon for DQVIII etc.) and it might be that it's just a bit silly in length?
Wait hang on a minute so the game has no internal FPS settings? But it still doesn't default to 60?
Platforms are subcategories already, this would be the same thing. Only difference is how big the difference between versions is here of course, since you have 2D mode and battle animation speed to work with
Ah ok so the secret tech is just furious shaking
EDIT: Any differences between Mario and Luigi?
I have a vague memory that it has something to do with being right below the surface of the water, so that you're almost jumping out and refreshing it somehow
Are they doing it while deeper in the water too?
I understand why cause they KEEP COMING OUT and no one has done any runs with them yet, but just for completeness sake :)
It's kinda stupid to have to click off of the score screen, I'm gonna change that to when it pops up. Will retime existing runs to fit this
Nothing wrong with starting on emu to see if it's fun either. You mess around with learning speed strats and compete with yourself in single levels, and get a Wii later if you wanna commit to seriously learning the run as a whole
Save first if you're gonna try it, of course :)
I know someone (on release) managed to "sequence break" the game and softlock, by jumping over a fence and missing a part of the story. Don't know which town, but gonna guess Heliodor?
EDIT: also you can crash the game in lots of places by having high settings and a bunch of particle effects like in bossfights, but dunno if that's entertaining enough
Don't know much much about the game, but saw on twitter that it got kickstarted to finally release the N64 version along with a PC port lol
How many other games can boast speedrun categories from 20 seconds to 20 hours?
please do link that discord!
That's a good point, put the current "neutral ending" as the default category and call it Any% to be consistent with the rest of the series
Yeah I think save subcategories for when there's more runs happening, and we can see how much of a difference the loads make. It's definitely gonna be big enough to matter, but it's probably gonna be a while before it makes the difference between WR and not :)
The more obvious ones that will definitely need to be added is japanese PS4 and 3DS, since they're definitely different runs. But that will probably also wait until getting in touch with japanese runners
I assume it starts on file select and ends on the fatal blow to the last boss like the other games, would just be nice if it was actually specified in the category rules
The discord link is in the sidebar btw
