Hey all! Instead of cluttering the comments of our runs with issues about other runs being deleted, this can be the place for such things. If there are any issues that arise regarding this game, make a post in this thread! <3
Erwan claimed a 4:22. I believe he started the timer significantly late. I retimed his run to be a 4:23.11. Does anybody else with a bit more experience have any insight on this?
Video proof is not required for all runs. It is necessary for top times, however. Which runs specifically do you want to see proof for?
I'd like to take a moment to point out that this would not be the only case of this predicament.
Any Banjo-Tooie speedrunner knows how much Jinjo RNG can affect a speedrun. It can cost you minutes depending on the category, all for no reason. What the vast vast majority of runners do is have a permanent backup save file with the desired Jinjo RNG. They copy the save to the speedrun file (slot A) and start timing when selecting the file.
Because Jinjo RNG is determined at the very start of the game, the way you do it is as follows. -Start a new file -Immediately quit out to the main menu -Backup the file- -Play through the game until you see what color Jinjos are located in what positions -If incorrect, try again, if correct, keep the backup save -Copy save file to speedrunning slot, play runs from there
There's a whole pastebin on it if I wasn't clear enough. Anyway, yeah, this totally makes sense. It's a segmented speedrun, but it's very very specific segments. In Banjo-Tooie's case, it's a 3 second segment followed by the rest of the run in the other segment. In Portal, it would be the very specific vault segment followed by the rest of the run in the other segment. As long as these 2 segments are defined properly, it's reasonable to implement this change. Make sure to word the rules properly, don't let there be any loopholes to where people can submit a segmented run with 2 segments split anywhere but at the vault.
Yeah, that's my opinion on it.
Personally, I think it would be okay to keep this IL leaderboard for RTA things only. For the other challenges that count down, this is a good fit for what you're looking for: http://www.cyberscore.me.uk/game/113
I think it all looks good, you've done a nice job. I'm liking the new background, it's a lot less distracting. Maybe you should poll the community on what to do with the level leaderboard, but I believe, at all costs, you should keep individual worlds out of misc categories. It's the ugliest thing, I've seen it on so many pages. Perhaps it could go something like this
Any% 100%
World 1 (individual world) 1-1 1-2 1-3 ..... World 2 (individual world) 2-1 2-2 2-3 etc.
OR
Any% 100%
World 1 World 2 World 3 World 4 World 5 World 6 World 7 World 8 1-1 1-2 1-3 ..... 2-1 2-2 2-3 etc etc
I think I prefer the first one personally. Of course don't actually add in the (individual world), I'm just showing you that I'm not categorizing, I'm actually making another section just like 1-1 or 1-2, just being World 1 itself, the full thing. Maybe put it up to give it a try?
I think it looks good how it is. Perhaps split it up into each level instead of each world? I don't know for sure what people in this community would prefer: levels vs worlds. I know that levels are a very popular thing in NSMBDS.
The way you made the level leaderboard is cluttered/ugly. Perhaps you could take the style of this? speedrun.com/nsmbds It's a lot cleaner and the community loves it.
- 10 stars shouldn't be a category.
- Naming categories based on requirements instead of restrictions makes rules fuzzy. I'd stick with Any% NMS.
This is surely accomplishable, but I don't think I personally have the skillset or tools necessary to do this. I know that in some communities, like the Crash Bandicoot community, people have timed the loads in and out of each level, cutscenes, etc. As this is not a PC game, we can't make an external tool to track where the game is (Portal series, Mirror's Edge, etc.) This being said, I don't know a way to solve this issue unless somebody times EVERYTHING: cutscenes, loadings, warp pipes, saving, anything that costs time between the platforms used. If we can get all of the information gathered maybe we could come up with a calculator.
Calculator idea:
Platform used:
-
DS ☐
-
DS Emu ☐
-
Wii U VC ☐
Levels visited:
Mushroom houses- (enter number) 1-1 ☐ 1-2 ☐ 1-3 ☐ 1-Tower ☐ 1-4 ☐ 1-5 ☐ 1-A ☐ 1-Castle ☐ 2-1 ☐ etc etc etc
You would place a check on each level visited and when you're done, it will tell you how much time, to the frame, to subtract from your RTA time to make it a "loadless" time. On speedrun.com, we would then be able to compare our loadless times. See this for example: http://www.speedrun.com/crashtwoc
What do you all think? Is anybody up for doing the work required to find the data in order to implement this? Let me know here, thanks!
It's simply down to what the game says. When you clear out a world, it will tell you on the touch screen.
I liked having it, but Denferok and Yoyoyodude1 were very much against it. If we are going to have them, it's best that they're accurate. I can't force them to keep their runs up, so I don't know what to tell you, sorry.
I'm trying to change the abbreviation of speedrun.com/iwbtzg to speedrun.com/iwbtzerogame so that it matches the format of the rest of the abbreviations of the series, but I'm getting an error, it's been happening for weeks. Can somebody figure out why this is a problem for this specific game?
Space is Key and Space is Key 2 should be in a series.
Alright, added!
Riley_got_pb has a time on 100% and so does "Riley_got_pb8". I assume the one with the 8, the unregistered account, is a mistake (or an alternate username that was never seen). pliz fix
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Any% Hoverless in SMS is much different than Any% "Touchless" would be in SM3DW. In Hoverless, there are many more differences with routes and tricks, it actually makes for an interesting run. "Touchless" would be basically the same run, but with slight differences in some areas of the game. It's not a big enough difference to warrant a new category imo.
mugg should be changed to mugg1991, he has a speedrun.com account.
