I honestly believe that nightmare/inferno are not do able with the amount of ammo in the game. Even with the unlimited HG, its still going to be a huge challenge to finish.
I'll wait a bit for others to give feedback before I talk to the other mods about this. I'm glad to see us coming together to set up some rules.
Alright, so I'm going to put forth some rules and lets discuss and compromise if necessary.
I don't believe that standard should use anything NG+. Yeah DA manip is annoying, but unless it's really necessary I don't think NG+ guns should be allowed. Hardcore will never fall below 8 DA, so I don't think that it's going to be as necessary to manip.
All general rules apply to this category.
Assisted/Standard: Use of the starting handgun, Burst handgun, and Magnum is allowed. All shop items are banned.
Hardcore: Use of the starting handgun, Burst handgun, and Magnum is allowed. Use of the Samurai Edge handgun is allowed. All other shop items are banned.
Nightmare/Inferno: Use of the starting handgun, Burst handgun, and Magnum is allowed. Use of the Samurai Edge handgun and the Infinite Handgun are allowed. All other shop items are banned.
The base handguns, starter, carlos', and mag should be the only ones in standard/assisted since shop guns aren't necessary. If the samurai edge can make hardcore possible then it should be used instead of unlimited hg.
The knife shouldn't be allowed in HG only. Unless someone else can do hardcore and up without the unlimited HG, I think that would be the go to gun on hardcore and above. It's still a challenge run at that point. Yes you could get a bunch of healing items and power through, but that wouldn't be fastest. It will eventually boil down to as few heals as possible to save the most time. It would really rely on dodging skill and movement to see who gets to the top.
For the magnum it's not going to be only allowed on certain difficulties. Either it will be allowed or not. I say allow since I believe on anything short of hardcore it's a waste of time to grab.
I just don't think there is enough gunpowder in the game to make enough ammo to finish on hardcore or higher. It might be possible on hardcore but someone better at the game then me will need to try lol. I don't really see people running HG only on anything higher than hardcore anyways.
As for the traps, do you just shoot them over and over till the hunter shows up and it doesn't hold the section up?
So I have done a few runs of HG only. Assisted is rather easy, upgrades make it a breeze but not necessary if nemmy doesn't get near a barrel like he did for me a few times. The only sketchy part is Carlos defense section, since you have a limited amount of ammo.
I'm open to the magnum being used since it technically falls into the handgun family. I feel like it's only necessary for hardcore and beyond, even then unless it's impossible to do without it might not be worth getting.
I'm not sure there is enough ammo in the game to do it without the unlimited HG on hardcore and up. It might be possible with the ammo reloader, has anyone tested this?

Follow the instructions in this thread, it's super super easy to do, really.
So there is a sticky thread about how to limit your framerate. It has nothing to do with your monitor refresh rate. Set the in game option to variable and then follow the instructions in the thread. Use which ever program, but I suggest nvidia profile inspector if you have an nvidia card.
Where are the completed runs? Unless I missed something Speedidol is the only one here to post a run. Also like Maxy said, the last post before this thread became active again was 25 days ago, almost a month. I can't speak for the other mods, but I have only had one person reach out to me about HG only.
I'm not apposed to it becoming a category, I ran RE2R HG only quite a bit and ran it in a marathon. If there really is enough people interested, they need to do runs and record them, not just theorize.
I just want to add that the best way to record your runs is with a capture card. I recommend getting one even if you are going to stream, because then you can record a local copy. Having a local recording is good because it won't be effected by things like internet dropping or skipping.
I'm interested in running this since I play it so much. But before I invest time into it I was wondering if people are still running/mods here. All the runs I looked at so far are very old.
No, your run has not been forgotten. We will verify it when we get to it. In the future, if you have a concern with something a moderator can address, please use the Sr.c message function to contact a moderator instead of posting a thread about it.
We aren't going to add something like that because the Nemesis encounters before he becomes an actual boss fight are a complete joke.
Correct, we haven't added the inferno difficulty to low% because no one had done a run of it yet.
Also, watch the WR runs and copy what they do. They are WR for a reason.
Sorry for the confusion, I didn't see this was for RE2R. There is not assisted for RE2R and there isn't going to be one.
There is a NG Assisted category, look for the button on the Any% tab.
@WhamBam_TV That isn't really a valid argument still. We don't know how many people you have spoken to. It could be two other people and you are counting it as "most runners". Saying "most runners agree with me" is kind of manipulative because people who don't know better will read that and think that is actually what the community thinks. We aren't going to remove part of the game simply because it's "tedious". Does it suck to get to power station to get trolled by drain deimos? Yes. But that is part of speedrunning. Resetting when you get to a higher level of play is going to happen, a lot.
Like Maxy said before, there is pretty big reason why Fallout 4 has an intro skip, because of how hard the ticks are to land that kill your run.
You can't just say that "Most runners seem to want this" when only a few people have posted here. Also, unless I missed it, it's not been brought up in Discord either. Y'all need to stop making blanket statements based on a few comments in a forum post.
We have a lot of runs to get through right now, seeing as the boards have only been open for a few days now. Please be patient. We have up to two weeks to verify a run, not saying it will take that long.
