Would it be possible to change my name to 'Gnist'? Thanks!
I'm not entirely sure how this one works, or if has been posted before. It seems that when runs are tied to the millisecond on an IL, the oldest run gets displayed as WR. If both runs have the same date, it seems to go alphabetically. How do I get it to do a tie?
If you click on the run, it's displayed as 1st.
On the runner's page it's listed as 1st.
However, on the game's IL overview the oldest run is once again displayed.

I've moved the 'Ultimate Gauntlet' leaderboards (back) to the Individual Levels leaderboards! In addition to this I've added the 'Thief Reflexes' as a variable, like I did with previous Master Thief Challenges yesterday. (See: http://www.speedrun.com/sly3/thread/q39o0)
I've already moved all the runs for you, so you don't have to worry about that. I might've spammed your inbox in the process, so sorry about that :3
I'm posting (and stickying) this thread in case people are confused as to where the Ultimate Gauntlet leaderboards went, as suggested by Cooopercrisp.

I just went through the trouble of adding the 'Thief Reflexes' gadget as a variable on the Master Thief challenges where you play as Sly, even if only for a minor part of it (see: Pressure Brawl).
If you don't know, 'Thief Reflexes' is the gadget for Sly that slows down time (to 0.25x iirc) without it affecting the in-game timer - allowing us to do precise tricks or movement easier .
When you submit future PBs, please set the 'Thief Reflexes' variable as either Yes or No. It should be set as required and defaults to No. If you want, you can go back and edit your older submissions as yes or no to save some trouble for the mods (more like save me trouble tbh :3) and to make the boards look cleaner.
In the near future I will go back and set the variable manually for top 3 times in every challenge. I would do it now but tacos :3
I am looking into adding it for Ultimate Gauntlet as well, but with its current position (misc. full-game) it seems impossible. I'm arguing to move it (back) as an IL as it's not a full-game category, and I doubt it gets more love when it's hidden by default anyway.
Totally missed that one it seems, thx for the heads up. Added it now.
I was gonna do this change at one point, but forgot. Thx for reminding me. The changes have been done, so feel free to submit your times and whatnot. Let us know if anything is still incorrect or missing.
I believe the chase is just shy of a minute and a half, so time save should be something along the lines of 1:15 to 1:20. I think this is something they (Sucker Punch) patched out rather early, as Sanzaru isn't known for patching stuff for their PS3 remaster, at least not for Sly 2. It would be interesting to see if it works on the jp ps2 version, as that is a patched version (i.e. you can skip the neyla-entering-clockwerk cutscene in ep 8 without corrupting the save)
Aight so after a quick read-up and asking around, it seems you mean the PS Now version available for PS4 and PC (?), as there is no dedicated PS4 release for any Sly Cooper game. This version streams the PS3 version (either trilogy or standalone, not sure) and was tested by Nero shortly after it came out. He found out that it loses minutes over the original version in loads, but also stated that the streaming delay was acceptable. If you want to run on PS4 or PC using PS Now, submit it as PS3 as it's the PS3 version being played. I would, however, recommend running on PS3 if you want to get serious about the speedrun. (game is literally $10 on the PSN store)
I asked Sharo, and he says the PS Now version should be allowed since it's an official Sony release. Even if it did emulate the PS2/PS3 it wouldn't count as an emulator since it's by Sony themselves. I agree with the statement so I guess we'll go with that.
As far as I'm aware, there's no dedicated version for the PS4. If you're talking about the PS Now version, I believe that is just emulating a different version? (PS2 or PS3?) I know Nero tested the PS Now version when it first came out, and he said it lost a lot of time on loads, so we didn't look too much further into it. Emulators is banned for this game, but PS Now might be different. I'll share this thread with the other moderators, so we'll see what they say as well.
As for the glitches they should all work. What might be different is paraglide clipping, depending on whether it's the PS2 or PS3 version being emulated.
My knowledge is a little limited, so feel free to correct me if something I assume is wrong.
The way most speedruns operate these days are by the 'Real-Time Attack' (RTA) system. Pausing the timer would make the run 'Time Attack' only and therefore not eligible for the leaderboards. So for submitting to the leaderboards, taking breaks by pausing the timer is not allowed. However, you can leave the timer running while taking a break, or plan quick breaks (toilet breaks, fetching a quick meal etc.) in cutscenes, since Sly 2 (and 3) have several, lengthy, unskippable cutscenes.
When I started out I did some more casual, non-recorded speedruns offline where I paused the timer whenever I had to eat dinner, wanted a break or had an errand to run. I could not submit to the leaderboards, but I didn't really have a desire to anyway, given how bad and poorly optimized my runs were back then. Once I closed in on the record I started going RTA and livestreamed them.
I know this makes running lengthy games a bit of a hassle, and that's one of the reasons why doing Individual Episode runs are quite popular for the Sly Cooper games. Simply running one episode at a time and improving that way, sort of like segment practice. I can tell by experience that speedrunning Sly 2 or 3 is more of a relaxing experience given all the cutscenes and short breaks they provide, so I wouldn't worry in terms of getting tired. The problem really is finding a 6h+ open time slot, which is the main reason why I don't run as often as I want to myself.
I think we tried something similar with Sly 2 a while back, I didn't like the idea myself so I didn't participate and therefore don't know too much about it, but I know they scrapped that idea after finding out it skipped some cutscenes etc.
If you think this is interesting you can look into it and test it. Not everything has to be verified and on the leaderboards.
Emulator is banned for most PS2 games because the emulators are simply not accurate enough, and the Sly franchise is no exception.
If you have a PS3, acquiring the game (fastest version at that) is easy and cheap, as it's available from the Playstation Store for $10.
After some initial testing (Sly 2), it seems to starts the timing as soon as Sly starts walking around in the main menu (or earlier), perhaps also while changing controls in the menu before starting the run.
I wouldn't say there's a reason. I mean it's just the opening level which used to be nothing but cutscenes and waiting, but has since been cut down to a mere 3 minutes.
I see where you're coming from tho. Every episode has one. I'm not sure if it's a must-have thing but we sort of hold track of who has the fastest Cairo anyway (it being mikl with a low 2:5x). But if Cairo gets one, why not every other job out there?
I submit my new PB, and it will make your old one obsolete and it will not be shown on the leaderboards (unless it uses a different console or something)
Sly 2: Band of Thieves Sly 3: Honor Among Thies Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time [current focus]
I also ran some Leaf me Alone (Ludum Dare) back in the day.
I like Sly, mkai? RaccAttack
Edit: Not only I run/ran these games, in fact Sly 2 has a pretty strong community. Not many takes it seriously tho.
I put the 'WR' stamp to the uncontested categories as well as those with competition, mainly to prevent confusion and to make it clear that it is in fact the best time. If someone asks me on stream I will elaborate, explain the situation a little more in-depth and probably refer to it as 'uncontested WR'.
Some good games in there. Hyped for Sly, Mikkel make us proud!
