This is an unofficial, collective 'leaderboard' for episode runs that I threw together. There are two boards; a points ranking and a time ranking. The boards are inspired by that of the elite - https://rankings.the-elite.net/goldeneye .

Points ranking 1st = 10 points, 2nd = 9 points, 3rd = 8 points etc. Points are then added together to create a total score out of the possible 80. Since the amount of players are limited, I've kept all 15 players that holds a top 10 time in the final leaderboards.

Time ranking I've restricted this to 10 runners, and the runners need to have ran all 8 episodes, but do not need to have all their PBs within top 10. I have no way of telling who is the actual 10 fastest runners without manually adding the times together, so if I missed someone then please do tell me.

The constant 'K' is set to 25:34, as this is a shortcut to estimate a full-game run with episode PBs, similar to how Sum of Best works, I suppose. 25:34 was, when I made the leaderboards, all my "Start episode" splits (not golds) from my 5:25:28, plus my gold for Cairo (2:48.72), rounded down to the second.

I'm not sure if this is something anyone is interested in, but I found some interesting data here that caught my interest atleast. I've been pondering about where to post this, as it's not a resource, and certainly not a guide. I decided to throw it up here as a forum post, but please note that this is unofficial and not a mod post.

Questions and/or feedback are very welcome :3

At first glance, I thought you meant a New Game Plus-like concept where one would start with every gadget unlocked (which has been posed before but never really broke through), but I eventually understood you meant more of a 'True 100%' category.

In terms of running it, I'd say it's a legitimate concept but I imagine grinding for coins could be a hassle. Every 'useless' gadget would probably be bought at the very end, for example. I do, however, think it would prove to be a nice challenge, and would probably require a new route to account for gadgets unlocked along the way, obtaining the treasures and collecting the bottles, as well as opening the vaults.

In terms of moderating it - there's no point in adding a category no one cares about. If enough people show interest and start running it, we, as moderators, can't really shut it down. We might represent the community, but we are also moderating for the community, so if the interest is there it would probably be added as a category.

As for the timing suggestion, I'd rather recommend a visual end point, as sound easily desync (even if mere frames) which would make the timing inaccurate. If the starting point is a visual, so should the ending point be. I think unlocking Mega Jump as an ending point makes sense, as it requires 100% completion to get.

Possible problems with this route seems to be picture #1 and picture #4, which doesn't seem to be consistent (according to a quick dialogue with Jake). When doing runs, it might be worth checking to see if you get a good spawn path for ghost #1 which could make a route like this possible. I'm almost certain the current 'meta' route can be improved, as shown by this and Hulla's route, shown here

Notes/updates about Hulla's new cs skip: Loads will obviously affect the time saved, but the load after failing the job is extra long here. Doing it without Turnbuckle Launch is very doable, and slightly faster as Murray doesn't have to fall for as long. Time saved on my system is ~9s. I jumped off to the side and ran past the cs trigger, hitting it from behind similar to how Hulla did it in his video.

Doing Disguised Jump in the Dragon fight might require some practice...

If this death glitch (end of 1st video) is a side effect to Disguised Jump, understanding how it works might make it useful to death abuse faster, which could make death warping (dying in order to get warped back to a checkpoint, sometimes placed closer to the objective than we're currently at) a more viable option. (i.e. talk of pirates between eye patch and peg leg)

Looks 5-10s faster to me.

To clarify in case people see this and is unaware: This is not a new skip. We've known about this forever, and it has been done in speedruns for as long as I can remember. It was, however, regarded as a PS3 only skip. This makes the PS2 NTSC-J version slightly less slow compared to the PSN version, and reigns supreme among the PS2 releases.

The reason why it works on NTSC-J is because the NTSC-J version is patched with upgraded paraglider bouncing. This is the same patch that fixes the memory corruption glitch when skipping a certain cutscene in episode 8. I'm not sure if this is also the same patch that fixes the cutscene trigger in episode 5 operation, but I would assume so.

I personally knew the NTSC-J version was a patched version, but I was unaware that paraglide bouncing was changed in this patch. I was under the impression that this was done during the HD remaster port.

tl;dr NTSC-U and PAL for PS2 is of an earlier version where this skip isn't possible. The game was patched before the NTSC-J release, and thus the NTSC-J release is that of a patched version. The patched version was later ported over to PS3 in Sanzaru's HD remaster release. This skip is only possible on patched versions of the game.

There's unfortunately nothing we moderators can do, as the option just isn't there.

The problem is the "default time" setting. It has to be set to either 'real time' or 'in-game time', and can't be set separately for certain categories or ILs. Categories using in-game time needs the real time component to stay at 0, else the game sorts by that instead. I guess the WR progression graph also uses the default time, hence why it glitches out.

We have no way to automatically restore them.

All runners are free to submit their old PBs as they want, but we don't have an overview of all the runners' old PBs. It's a bit unfortunate for the sake of displaying and preserving history, but there's not much we can do about it on our own. I think I will add my old ones since I personally am interested in seeing improvement and lists like these. From a personal standpoint, I encourage others who are interested to do the same, if you have the times written down somewhere or have the videos for them still (video being preferred but not required).

The Gauntlet leaderboards already moved once in the past, from an IL to a full-game category, so the old boards would've had some of the same issues.

For PS3, PAL (EUR/AUS) and NTSC (USA/JP) doesn't matter. It's basically the same version, just with some added languages for PAL. (this becomes relevant for Sly 3) For PS2 there will be some minor differences in framerate, which will affect run speed, lag etc. The PS2 version is slow so it's not really worth looking into.

Version list, sorted from fastest to slowest is: -PSN version for PS3 -PSN Vita version (Capturing this might be hard so this will never be worth going for) -PS3 remaster/trilogy disc (Slow loads, slow dialogue, slow resets) -PS2 disc -PS4 (PS Now)¤

¤PS4 or PS Now or whatever is being looked into again, I believe? It was initially judged to be super slow due to insane loading times which occurred seemingly at random.

Additionally you could clean/format your PS3 and invest in a faster hard drive and PS3 model, but this is considered the 'last step'. I wouldn't recommend caring about this unless you're motivated to go for a top time.

tl;dr -Region doesn't matter. PAL/NTSC are equal in speed. -PSN version for PS3 is the fastest known version. -Can look into faster PS3 model and hard drives, but it's only considered worth it if you're going for a top time.

It shouldn't be any faster, just a different way of doing it. Arguably easier, however.

I'll post MSA's vid of him fooling around with it on HD yesterday, for reference. I get similar results.

I think I'll post every new optimization I come across here, that way I have a reference point if people ask.

Ersen found Bomb Boosting in Sly 3. Idk how precise it is, as I haven't done it myself yet. It could be useful if you ever have to do a small jump as Bentley, as it should carry the running speed into a jump, similar to Square Boosting in Sly 2. Speaking of Sly 2, Bomb Boosting also works there but the height gained is inconsistent, making it fairly useless in actual runs.

Hulla's new wolf strat:

Guards might be a problem, snipe them?

NorwayGnist7 years ago

Since everyone is throwing stuff at me from everywhere (see: twitter, twitch, Discord etc.), let's just put it all here for everyone to see, yeh?

NorwayGnist7 years ago

It's a strat found by Furball, named a Furball Jump. Hit X+Square+Feral Pounce button right before landing on the laser (towards the end of the animation caused by hitting x+circle to land on it).

Remo explains it in text form here: http://www.speedrun.com/sly3/guide/9o0s2

As far as I know, Sly 3 wasn't initially released in Japan, so until recently we were under the impression that there was no japanese dub. However, it was brought to my attention a while back that it was dubbed for the release on the HD remaster in 2010/11 - but I guess I forgot to add it to the list of variables. I'll add it now.

NorwayGnist7 years ago

We already have a floating limit and are actively rejecting runs if they claim a 'good enough time'. Putting a hard limit could promote fake runs. ("If the limit is 32:00, I'll fake a 32:02 and get a free top spot!!")

I had a brief chat with Dreadmox a while back on this subject (see: https://twitter.com/Dreadmox1/status/887396166756950016 ) and he confirmed that French and Spanish are available. Dreadmox claims only those are available but I doubt that has been looked into properly.

Idk too much about value and such, but I have a Samsung 850 EVO 120GB which I haven't had any issues with. It seems to be a more pricey, yet popular choice.
