I agree. Single tracks definitely need to go to the IL section and single cup runs are not really worth their own category ( maybe only in the IL section if you really want it ). So we can have all cups in all 3 different speeds (and maybe subsonic and supersonic as misc cat ). As the game has more content though, you could also make all tracks hero mode or TA mode, even though they will be quite similar, so we might cut something out there or make them misc cats as well. Another thing that will probably be brought up is a some sort of no skips category as multiple major skips have already been discovered, which should at least be discussed, if it's worth it's own category.

It's probably nothing big, but I encountered a glitch when casually playing this game (on the PAL version):

Whenever you win a fight, you see a winning animation by Brian. If you are quickly enough you can use a spell during that animation ( there is a small frame window where you can start using a spell at the beginning of the animation). For example you can use a heal spell and interrupt the animation which can cause the music to not play for some reason. I haven't really looked deep into that, but maybe you can also pause, use an item or a different spell instead and cause something weird. Feel free to mess with this.

It's not something big, but I just wanted to have told the community about it as it may turn out to be useful with more research.

Does text even matter ? I doubt there is any text you have to wait for, because you can just skip all the cutscenes with esc.

Nice to see this tiny community to grow. Take your time with the game, it will take a lot of time anyways until we got at least some good strats for every single mission and actually being able to start to start runs.

yeah, I still don't know about what we should do about all the different Patches and about the 360 version, but so far everyone runs it on the PC version, so 360 is no concern so far. I want to run on 1.0 because it's very likely the fastest version and the strats are pretty interesting so far imo, but I will probably also see what strats you can do on the patched version. I don't know if you can remove the Patch though except from reinstalling version 1.0.

oh yeah, that's a small problem. I guess you don't have another choice than adding one additional frame to it every time, so 0.017 secs to it, but it shouldn't affect the total time by any big margins. I think everyone can live with that.

The purpose of this topic should be clear, so here are my suggestions:

Some leaderboards have both a RTA and an IGT column and it would make a lot of sense to add that to all staff ghosts and maybe all cups. Speaking of all staff ghosts, I agree with superSANIC that loading the staffs is pretty much only a waste of time and noone likes to do that, so we might want to change it to "all tracks time attack".

The only problem is that all current runs on the leaderboard are optimized for all staffs making it a bad RTA time for all tracks TA, so if we use IGT then there is almost no difference anymore. The only disadvantage is that you somehow need to weight in deaths and resets. The only solution I have in mind for that is to add the time on the last frame visible when before you die/ reset.

Btw. we can put all cups + all cups master to one category and just add on what difficulty you did the run on ( novice, standard, expert, master and custom ).

I think a thread for sharing strats is not a bad idea.

Currently I'm trying to find out the fastest any% ( bronze ) strats for the GDI Campaign. I already figured out some interesting strats. I'm planning to record them sometime and then upload and link them in here.

The only interesting thing I found so far is that there are main objectives that can be skipped, so the game probably doesn't check if you have done it. For example you can complete the mission Croatia without rescuing the MCV by overtaking one of Nods Construction Yards.

I just found that engineer teleport glitch and it is very easy to do, so that will improve a lot of things, but I don't think it's too broken, because there are missions where you can't build anything at all, so you can't perform the glitch and you can't take over everything. It is probably a lot more useful for 100%, so that's probably getting more interesting than just building a big army and destroy the enemy. You can also do the same with any infantry unit with a building you can occupy, but idk where this would be useful.

I guess that has to wait, because SDA doesn't allow emulators, so either I get the game + console or we have to wait until ESA 2016 and then I can do legit runs on Naegleria's copy

I know the standard is to run on the fastest version, but welp there are always some exceptions in some communities, so I just wanted to make sure.

I'd also agree with the timing method, as the loading times are not that long, so it shouldn't make a big difference using RTA and yeah it would be dumb to not use IGT for ILs.

Let's see what strats I can figure out for any% and 100%.

I plan to pick up the PC version of this game somewhat soonish (maybe in a week, maybe in a month or even later).

I know there is not much competition here, but we should apply some rules to have a fair competition. So how do we define the rules for this game ?

I know there are many versions as from 1.00 original to the patched 1.09 version. So there are 2 ways we can treat that:

  1. We only allow 1.09 version as it is the most up to date and allows for fair completition between PC and X360 runners (afaik 360 version is patched 1.09, correct me if I'm wrong)
  2. We allow all versions as this might allow for maybe more glitches making the run faster and more interesting

The next topic to discuss is about the timing method:

  1. IGT would allow for fair competition regardless of how good your PC is as loads are not counted, but you can't weight in saves or restarting missions properly.
  2. RTA would solve the issue of saving/ failing a mission, but you get a small advantage with a faster PC through loads, but could be neglected if it is minimal.

Categories:

It makes sense to make a category for each campaign, but what difficulty should we use and how about bonus missions / Intel Entries ? It's probably best to have 2 separate categories, one for fastest completion on easy or normal ( sorta any%) and one for completing with all bonus missions ( Intel Entries ? if they aren't dumb ) on hard ( sorta 100% ).

Finally: I do not want to insult anyone, but the current (and only) run on scrin campaign is not an actual run. It is a compiliation of ILs put together in one video and not a run from the beginning of the game to the end in one segment. I'm not trying to run Mathgodpi down, the "run" is really good and I love his work and strats, but it would be unfair to let this on the leaderboard, as it is a compilation fo ILs and allowing that as a run is IMO dumb except if you allow segmented runs, but that should be in another category. We could also implement an IL leaderboards to solve this issue.

I hope we can get along well and find strats and tricks to optimize this game well.

It's a big mistake to copy the WR strats if you start to speedrun for most games. There are very often easier routes strats, that are slower, but much more consistent and when you get better and have more experience with the game you can start adding faster strats. It is also a bad idea to start out with runs immediately. Nothing goes over practicing, there is no way around it.

originally I started out as a F-zero X time attacker, because the game is awsome and I wanted to learn those sick strats. Then I got into GX as well and from there into speedrunning games.

if you hold down on the d-pad you will gain more height. You can influence your jump any time by pressing up down. However when you land you want to be holding down I think to maintain all your speed. You will also need that trick if you want to do the port town shortcut.

Usually a dazzle or easyCap are recommended. They are not really expensive and they do their purpose for recording with acceptable quality imo. Also don't forget to get the right splitters and cables. However I'm not an expert, so maybe someone else knows better.

I would also like to add JPRs Metroid Fusion any% run in 0:45 IGT on sep 14, 2015 http://www.speedrun.com/run/2yw0ovpm

There was a 4 way tie in the leaderboards with Kirbymastah, Biospark, JRP and kahdoom all having a 0:46, which is finally broken now with this godlike run. If you don't know this game, it has a lot of RNG, so JRP had to grind this out a lot until he finally got this run. The RNG involves Eyedoors (number of beams until it opens) and some bosses (number of jumps by Zazabi and how many rounds it takes until Yakuza opens his weakspot for example) and it can destroy a run completely.
