First off, I am new to the speedrunning world.

I have FCEUX with a smb2 USA ROM on my laptop. The sound is the correct speed, but the display feels very slow.

I turned on the FPS on FCEUX and it stays at a consistent 50 fps. I read on a few sites that NES runs at 60 fps, but when I increase the emulator speed so it is at 60fps, the sound is WAY too fast.

Am I missing something here??

thank you, DW

bummer. I like the ergonomics of the dogbone more than the brick... Maybe I should just use an snes controller since I am using if for emulators on my laptop anyways. thanks.

I recently bought a Nintendo brand dogbone NES controller.

I was disappointed in the quality of the d-pad, but I want to confirm that it is abnormal to have this issue.

If I am, for instance, pushing right, it takes only a little "rocking" of my thumb to make it register an "up" input, even though I am not pushing up. Just the normal gripping of the controller with my left hand will at times cause enough upward force on the d-pad to register "up".

Is this normal? I want to return the controller and try a different one if it is not. I know the above issue can be subjective, but what is your experience with this?

thanks in advance DW

OK thanks. When you say the ledge are you referring to the first or second platform? when you take damage, you blink. is there a certain "blink" to time pushing A or B?

yes! the way i do it now, i either grab him and fall under him and usually die, or i end up doing a big jump and try to land back on him as he moves up and to the left

yes. this shows what I am after, but I am wondering what the timing is to push A and B after taking damage from it, and also if A and B are pushed together.

when jumping immediately at the underside of the carpet and taking damage, how do you then end up on top of the carpet and holding the enemy while it is still low on the screen, as opposed to doing the "hitbox jump" and then kind of riding him up and ending up really high and to the left? Hope the question makes sense...
