First off, I am new to the speedrunning world.
I have FCEUX with a smb2 USA ROM on my laptop. The sound is the correct speed, but the display feels very slow.
I turned on the FPS on FCEUX and it stays at a consistent 50 fps. I read on a few sites that NES runs at 60 fps, but when I increase the emulator speed so it is at 60fps, the sound is WAY too fast.
Am I missing something here??
thank you, DW
My first guess would be a bad ROM. Almost sounds like you’ve got a PAL ROM instead of an NTSC one. I’d start by grabbing a different ROM (making sure it’s NTSC) and see if that improves anything. I’m not super savvy on NES emulation so I can’t really troubleshoot the emu itself, maybe someone else can help with that.
Just for clarification: PAL used to be locked to 50hz at that time. Due to lazy porting most games did actually run slower at the resulting 50fps, so that part is correct. I know that PAL Gamecubes also support PAL60 (it calls that 60hz mode most of the time), not sure if the N64 had that already as I haven't seen one in a decade.
