Yeah sorry, it’s not the best explanation but I tried my best. Essentially just get yourself in that right corner and angle yourself to the left as normal. And then I wait until I see the scaffolding on the right and count to 2. Then take a tiny step back and hit the jump button. After some practice it gets easier!
I didn’t know to mute the game so I apologize about the audio
@TakeOutPow I experienced everything you just said as well. My first run was around an hour and 50 minutes and by the time I was done I realized that it stopped recording right around the jet ski part. I’ve also experienced corrupt files as well. Best thing I can say so far is to try to keep it under 1 hour and 45 mins if possible, that seems to be pushing it for me for some reason. Super frustrating to complete a nearly 2 hour run just to have it be invalidated at the very end of the game!
@MeteorRights Also, elevators aren’t the only place that pause buffering can save some time. Any doors that you have to pull a lever for and the gears start going.. those are actually loading screens in disguise as well. As soon as your done pulling a lever, pause the game and let the ring run out. You just saved yourself from standing there staring at a door for 10 seconds.
Also another situation that comes to mind is right after picking up the first winged key. You’ll want to walk all the way up to the gate that requires said key. But instead of doing anything else you’ll actually want to pause and let the ring run out. There’s a bug in the game that causes the menus to take a while to load. Pausing gets rid of this. If you have any other questions or if I can explain anything else better just lmk!
@MeteorRights Hey! So the way Pause Buffering works is that you’re essentially pausing the game to just stop the timer but still allowing the game to load in the background. The most common place to do this in Village would be the elevators. After starting the lift, pause the game after a good 3-4 seconds. You’ll see the ring in the center indicating that the game is loading in the background. When it goes away, that your sign that you can unpause.
You want to repeat these steps every 3-4 seconds and you’ll end up doing it probably 5 times or so. So just use that ring in the pause menu to indicate where to stop.
@topherriddle just wanting to add this little bit of info to this thread. Community member @Liv answered a similar question in the forums about this a few weeks ago. They found that pause buffering in an elevator would result in a 29 second ride, when not pause buffering would result in a 41 second ride. So with this data you would assume that you’re saving around 12 seconds per elevator ride. I feel like it’s actually more significant than that, but it seems pretty close to accurate so I would go with that!
From the little bit of testing that I did a couple weeks ago it seems to save a good 40-50 seconds (I’m playing on a PS4)
This is how I’ve been doing it and I find it to be the easiest and most consistent method. After a little bit of practice I never die anymore. You just have to line yourself up with the wall and the table until you can’t move forward anymore. Then just wait for the baby to crawl at you. I usually use his left arm (right from our view) as an indicator of when to go. When I can see it, I run to the kitchen. After he attacks, you can walk right by him.
@RejectedGamerSam GG dude! That’s a very decent time for a first run! I’m playing in the same category and my PB is hovering around 1:39. Feel free to PM me if you want to compare strategies!
@Londrekia_senpai Congrats! Glad to know that it’s possible on console. Can’t wait to see your runs! My PB is hovering around 1:39 so I can’t wait to see what time saves I’m missing!
I can confirm that this is doable on a PS4 base console as well
This is a hard one. Of course IGT would be ideal for simplicity’s sake, and I feel like there’s been disadvantages for certain consoles for these games for a while now anyways and for the most part we all seem to be okay with it. In fact I specifically bought a PS4 last year just to run RE3R because I felt like I was at such a disadvantage playing on the Xbox One base console. Sure it sucks, but I just kind of accepted that one console was just better and I was okay with that.
But due to the nature of the game and the introduction of the new consoles I can definitely see the appeal of having separate leaderboards for different consoles just to even out the playing field. But either way seems to come with pro’s and con’s like you’ve pointed out. I’d hate to complicate the leaderboards but I’d be in favor of having them separated and using the IGT. But if the community chooses to go a separate route then I think that people will get used to the advantages and disadvantages of their console like we have in the past. I would definitely like to see a way that RTA wouldn’t have to be necessary though.
@James_Tong I know that bagel is pretty active in the LEGO speedrun discord. If you join the discord and then navigate to the “racers 1” tab, that’s where we talk about this game. But I’ll bring it to his attention right now as well!
@thevalkuiria I’m not a moderator so I couldn’t give you a definite answer, but personally I never had to wait more than a week. It seems like the moderators are generally as quick as they can be. With this said I would still give them 3-4 weeks before raising any questions.
I have heard about people having to wait for a few weeks but I think this just has to do with volume of runs and how much time the mods truly have. I think it’s a lot more work to verify a bunch of runs than we think so I would give it a little bit of time. If your run goes unnoticed for over a month I would go ahead and ask about it!
@YTKoopaPlayer I’m no expert on this stuff so maybe somebody has some better ideas but I know that a lot of newer phones have a screen recording feature built in. I have an iPhone 11 for instance and I can screen record without having to download any apps. So look into that...if not then I’m sure there’s other screen recording software or apps that you can access.
As far as editing goes, I typically do simple edits on my phone just without any apps. When looking at a video on an iPhone there’s an “edit” option in the top right and that allows you to do a lot of basic editing including trimming your clip. You can always download other apps or go the route of sending your video to your email or something so then you can edit it on your PC. There’s a million options. But I would keep it simple if you can! Best of luck!
@SuperAL1 Thank you for the info! I’m going to put in a few attempts on the ps4 version later tonight, as well as the pc version and I’ll report back whatever I find. I hope it’s doable on PS4!
I am interested in knowing this glitch as well if anybody has any info!
@Crazyreyn If you’re playing on console then no you don’t have to have a timer. Just show the difficulty at the start and the in game time at the end.
As far as I can tell it’s just simply that no runs have been submitted to that category! I’m not a mod so I’m not absolutely positive about that, but a few of the games I run have categories that are untouched as well. Perhaps you can use the console WR as a guideline and build your own route from there? Good luck with your runs and I can’t wait to see your World Record lol!
