I have decided to not close this thread, as well as the other one dedicated to L'sV. Leaving them open doesn't hurt for this kind of topic.
Done a lot of testing today, and found two new candidates. They're all regrouped here, and what you're currently looking at is the second one : https://imgur.com/a/qr6U8ZD We could add custom trophies, but I personally have no idea about what could fit in.
I've just tried fixing the contrast issue, and came up with this. Not very satisfied by the color, but anything not dark enough wouldn't get rid of that issue. Maybe we should just change the image for something more sober. Something like this board : https://www.speedrun.com/katamarireroll/forum Their design is minimalist enough, but it works on top of being very night mode fitting, at least. If someone has an idea on how to do that, we might consider it :)
Ah, correct for the green text. We could change it to something slightly brighter
No, its mostly just for clarification purposes.
Why is it called glitchless when you can still use glitches such as : door opening animation skips, hit while in double-jump animation... (well now that I think about it there aren't a lot of them. But still if we exclude the skip ones). And, skips that are not glitch based (4-2 end screen skip, 6-2 end skip, 5-2 gate) are implied to be allowed, which isn't the case.
The term of glitchless to me doesn't really convey what the category is about. It should try to convey that all skips are banned, because the point is to go through everything. A while ago, we had the category rule be modified to clarify what the category actually was.
But maybe, the glitchless term holds a bigger connotation that would encompass this issue. I'm not really knowledgeable on any of this tbh.
I personally like it, but I remain worried that it could be too bright, or have too much blue for night mode users. Maybe we could do something similar to that of the Wii, or the Katamari Damacy Reroll board as an outsider example (though, other boards of games of the same serie seems to not care about that).
A few weeks ago, we had started brainstorming ideas about customizing the looks of the DtP and L'sV boards. What you currently see is our finalised concept, and we would like to know what you think of it. Thanks to Nazzareno for his continued help with this.
Are you okay with it ? Is there a problem, or/and are there modifications to be done ? Ideas ? Do you think that it goes against the spirit of night mode ? Comment your opinions below.
[FORGET ABOUT THIS] I'll leave this open until this saturday at 23:59 (roughly four full days from now).
I'm for the change personally, and would choose "No Major Skips" as then new name. It's apparently a relatively common term in speedrunning.
This thread has been created in order to discuss the viability of a name change for the glitchless category.
Glitchless has been added around the 20th of november 2018. Its full conceptualization is to be attributed to Elsiz, eight months prior.
The reasoning behind its creation were the following :
- Due to the sheer amount of skips that had to be learnt in order to ensure a high spot in the rankings, ans also because of their rough nature (being particularly difficult to pull off, a few of them being run-killers, and causing the flow of the game to be halted), they were eventually seen as tiresome and frustrating to top players to use, and uninviting to beginners. Not very fun stuff.
- A significant portion of the game (most notably the entirety of Vision 6) was bound to never be played again by runners because of those skips. It was a real waste.
Now that that's explained, one might wonder as to why the category was called this way. It doesn't have much to do with glitches. Well, that part was just not taken care of very well. And because of that, it is bound to confuse people. In fact it already did.
So the question is : Do you agree that we should change it to something else ? What would then be the new name ? "No Major Skips", "Any% (no skips)" ? Comment your opinions below.

I don't have much to say about it personally, this is honestly pretty bare-bones of a change. The mirror aspect also isn't of my taste. But the official artwork's still great
A few weeks ago, we had started brainstorming ideas about customizing the looks of DtP and L'sV boards. It's not anything complex, we just took some official artwork and mirrored it so that Klonoa's head isn't blocked from view due to the game's cover. But we would still like to know your opinion about it.
Are you okay with it ? Is there a problem, or/and are there modifications to be done ? Ideas ? Should we loop the current image around ? Comment your opinions below.

Yea, we've just done that right now, as a workaround. To anyone right now, it should just look like a virtual mess, but to me it looks perfectly fine, since the foreground isn't being displayed lol. This bug thread isn't really solved per say, but I think this is where we're gonna leave it at, so thanks for the help everyone.
Okay, I guess I'll wait it out for now. Still very puzzled as to why I'm the only person who has this problem. It's possible that by then we're just gonna insert the clouds inside the gradient background instead, because at least that one's always consistent. I'll get back to this thread when we settle on something
Very weird. I only see the blue gradient background. The clouds are currently still not there for me
Hi. I and the Klonoa community have been recently meaning to change the aesthetics of some of the boards that we hold. The problem we encounter is that the foreground image sometimes just doesn't want to display. The file itself is correctly uploaded, but the site doesn't load it. I first played with the setting like yesterday evening and it worked fine, but then a couple hours later it just wouldn't get shown. This noon I saw it working again, and right now it's acting stubborn. I don't know what could cause it. This is the board in question, it's supposed to have moving clouds at the foreground : https://www.speedrun.com/klonoa1 Is this behavior normal ?
Nope. But this event was the nail on the coffin of his problem, I imagine. In any cases, we have to respect him and continue to move forward.
He expressed on his twitter wanting to distance himself from the internet in general. It happened around the time of the drama surrounding well-known speedrunners abusing people. As such, he's deleted his src account, unlisted his videos on YT and I assume Twitch as well (although some of the former are still accessible on the server. Not any of his runs though). He also gave his ownership of the Klonoa speedrunning server to me before leaving it.
While we do have submitted a couple 100% runs, none of them actually use Popka. So feel free to do so. Would be interesting
Conpletely unrelated subject, but your youtube link doesn't work.
Very well... While this time the consensus doesn't encompass everyone's minds, it is easier to see how important in size the sides are. Looks like the one favorable to the ban of emulation is the biggest, so in that direction we shall go. Thanks everyone. Harutomo knows what to do next (Though it's really just a box check).
