What RC7 Means: Guide to Versions
Updated 2 years ago by Fibbel7

On August 23 2021, a new version of the game called RC7 released. So what does it mean?

RC means Release Candidate; it’s basically another way of saying “version”. The game has 7 release candidates, or versions, RC1 through RC7. You can see which version you are currently playing on by looking in the url. If you are playing the full screen version of the game, the release candidate will be in the address, for example, https://www.google.com/logos/2020/kitsune/rc6/kitsune20.html will direct you to RC6, or version 6. You can change the version you are playing on by just changing it in the url to the version you want.

So what are the differences between versions?

For versions 1-6, differences are mostly relatively minor. However, it's well established that the best version to play on is RC5. In RC5, you can do the warpless tutorial skip, which was patched in RC6, and you also have all of the improvements of previous versions. For a comprehensive list of all the differences, join our discord server, which you can find right here in this page, on the left.

On August 23, RC7 was released, adding some new content, including updated sprites, 2 new side quests, and a new ending with a credits sequence. There are now 24 trophies to obtain instead of 22, and there are also two new extra sports. Again, for a complete list of all the differences, please join the discord server. Join it anyway!

Because of these major differences, speedruns of the game are divided into two additional subcategories, runs done on versions 1-6 and runs done on RC7. Whether you are playing on RC7 or not is important in all main categories. In RC7, you’re going to have to obtain 2 more trophies for alltrophies% and 100%. You will also have to play the second rugby and second archery for 100%.

When playing RC7, you also have to keep in mind that the warpless tutorial skip was patched. If you want to be able to skip the tutorial, which is a large timesave in allscrolls%, where RC7 runs are not separated, you will have to play on RC5. For this reason, PLAY ALLSCROLLS% WARPLESS ON RC5. But if you want to play on RC7, you just won't be able to skip the tutorial in warpless categories.

Once again, if you need any help at all, have questions, or would just like some great people to talk to, please join the discord server! I hope this helps.
