So this post is about giving y'all hints about how the movement system works so you can abuse it for your own runs. This is not a complete list (see point #5) and there are probably more exploits I haven't discovered myself.

  1. CLIMBING IS YOUR ENEMY. The game will lock you into a canned animation which will stall your momentum. Vaulting will retain your momentum (added in the v1.0.1 patch), but from my testing it's still slower than just running forward. 1.1 It is possible, with enough training, to reliably jump over waist-high obstructions when running. It's not pixel/frame perfect but it's very close to it. It's hard to describe how to pull it off but it's basically up to intuition and understanding the game's physics.

  2. Conversely, WALLRUNNING IS YOUR FRIEND. Wallrunning has zero friction and grants you a massive speed boost when you first latch unto a wall. It is possible to pull a perfect wallrun reliably every time - if you're familiar with the original Mirror's Edge, it's basically the same mechanic.

  3. SLIDING. Sliding immediately doubles your speed, then over the course of about half a second, reduces it down to zero. By carefully exploiting this system you can effectively spam your way into short speed boosts.

  4. STAIRCASES. Harkening back to Mirror's Edge, spamming jump + forward on staircases will give you a nice speedboost at the cost of limited strafing.

  5. There are explicit hidden paths created for speedrunners in some set-pieces but I'll let you figure them out. I will hint that it is possible, though hard, to land right on top of the fallen comms tower in the final set-piece. It can be done reliably, and is slightly easier in the v1.0.2 patch.

Good luck mates! Hope you have fun.

Just as a little fun fact, I made 1TIM as a very condensed puzzle/shooter with the intention of making it "speedrunable" - it's short, it's fast, get you in get you out.

Due to confused marketing and me getting overexcited about the subject matter rather than explaining what the hell the GAME is about, this didn't really come through. I'm still glad this is happening a few years later, even if it's one person.

The internet is a surpring place, and I never thought anyone would want to speedrun my visual novel first person bullshit thing, it's kinda flattering actually. Thanks a bunch.
