I'm a bit confused on what moment exactly we start and end time. I've seen people do it a bit differently from each other and I only followed one way but I'm curious. Do we start on selecting new game or on selecting Kitty or Maru from their screen? And do we end when the screen goes to the cutscene after 100 appears or before that?
I personally think it makes the most sense to start timing on character selection so it can be consistent for both. Though I know that the CS screen isn't there by default. Though if you do have it and you're running Kitty, you're going through it either way.
Why would the categories need the same timing? They're different categories, so the timing doesn't have to be the same. If anything, for Any% starting on pressing New Game is more consistent since you don't get the character select on a clean file.
Needing a file that's beaten the game just so you have the character select screen to start time on shouldn't be a thing
You are right, they're not the same category but it is essentially the same run between the two. Finishing the game as either character. I felt like having a similar starting point between both would make sense. However I guess, if you don't have CS then new game for Kitty makes sense. But if you do have CS then that screen would make sense. Basically, starting once the game starts loading up the hub for the first level would be best imo. Idk how long it'd take between both new game and the CS for Kitty on a finished file vs just new game on an unfinished one.
Yeah, if you always had character select I would've been fine with starting on CS. It's the fact that a clean file doesn't have it that makes me say to start Kitty runs on New Game selection, to equalize it between games that have and haven't beaten the game.
You know, thinking about it, it's kind of the same, actually. Pressing New Game on a clean file, and CS on a save file does the same thing: transition into the intro cutscene. In other words, the last input before the intro cutscene starts. So both timings can work, at the end of the day.
Yeah pressing new game on a clean file vs just pressing on hello kitty is pretty much the same timing, so either works fine. As far as when you end the timer, it should be the frame when the 100 pops up (or as soon as you see it basically). I went ahead and updated the rules to show this as well :)
