I throught reversedmirty had banned replays some time ago, but apparently not lol. So lets see this as a new subject. There are multiple ways one could use something like a cheat engine on happy wheels, TASing it, making a replay of it, and done. Also, replays are extremley broken and unreliable at times, so the best methon of authentication in my opinion would be someone completing the level, having the "Victory" panel with the authentic time in it visable, and clicking "view replay". This not only authenticates the time through the victory panel, but also saws the full (and most reliable) replay not in full totaljerkface.com replay funcionallity which means that you can also make sure no other cheat engine stuff happened there. That is my opinion of how mods should authenticate happy wheels runs. Not through a video playing a totaljerkface.com replay, or the link of the replay itsself, but through the victory panel replay, which in my opinion, is the most reliable of all of them. I hope ItsMaximum and ReverseDmirty decide to apply this.

Because of the nature of the game, time believability really depends on who is submitting the run, and how good the time is. Also, if you can cheat a replay, you can cheat a live run, I don't really see how they differ too greatly. There is really no great solution, unfortunately.

Straight up replay links are still banned though

Still, showing a video showing you playing a replay is the same thing. In the victory panel, it shows the legitimate time, but replays that are saved under an account, and then shown from a link or from the website its self can mess up the times or have bugs in them. There is really NO perfect way to show this or to prove a run, but out of the options we have, i think thats the best one.

All the replays are legit in the totakjerkface website and they are really beatable, they're not a tas or anything like that. Hm

Inconvenience leads to frustration and less runs. If people had to record the whole time that they played the game, it would cause problems. Personally, the input display shown in replays provides even more legitimacy, but I won't go into why for obvious reasons.

@ewan111ewan111 im not saying they are not legit, im saying that they are inaccurate at times. I never said its tas. Im just saying that completing a level and recording the victory panel replay is much more reliable than totaljerkface replays. @ItsMaximumItsMaximum i do agree, thats why im not suggesting for people to record the run as they play it. But when completing a level instead of saving a replay and possibly having unreliable info on the totaljerkface replays, you just record it right away through the victory panel replay. There are plenty of examples of misinformation on totaljerkface replays, inaccutrate times, malfunctions on the replays themselves, and such. Recording the run through the victory panel replay is just way more accurate, reliable , and even tho it can still be cheated, its still better than totaljerkface replays, cause those can be cheated even accidentally.

@aggelbeatboxeraggelbeatboxer If we banned replays, what would happen to all the records where replays are proof, like some of Ewan's PBs?

I really dont know, but it is not efficient. For all I know, any replay that is being shown by totaljerkface on vid might be cheated, thats why im suggesting that. I am not impling ANYTHING, im not saying ewan's runs are cheated in any way, im just saying no one can know for sure. And not for ewan specifiaccly, in general. Again, im not saying he or anyone else that uses totaljerkface replays cheats, im just saying its not efficient. Even if i did some runs on totaljerkface replays, i could be cheating without even knowing, cause its inaccurate as hell at times.

(btw, you can see im realllyyy fast with replies, hehe)

Yes the replays are indeed inaccurate for a reason, some different computer do have benefits on mechanics like crawling so far I heard that Linux is the best for all crawling levels not that I use Linux. I wouldn't say that's cheating or is it? Vsauce music plays
P.S.
None of the runs are cheated in featured, I agree pause buffering can be used on click levels. not that I did them in any of the runs. I have never heard of replay cheats.

I'm going to archive this thread, as there is currently not enough reason to ban replays. You can reopen another thread if you discover something new.
