would vs AI be a viable for categories? lol. ive never done it, but it might be something. (will be very meme, but since all this game has is a tutorial mode...not much to work with rofl)
I am going to be running this game more frequently soon. & English is for most games
Keeping the loads is just as vital. Could always make n3ds as a different category or something. Alot of other leaderboards have a setup like that anyway, like sm64 or something have different categories for the console they're playing on; (e.g. n64, VC, & emu. Keeping a timing method that is very obsolete just so other players can compete against other devices is silly. (where is the "you don't know because you don't own the game" even coming from? lol)
Time without loads should never have been a method for timing classic. especially when it's not used for any other smash game for speedruns and if it is, they are usually left blank. (eg the melee leaderboards) timing without loads is just a silly method because videos of it can be silly, you can have an hour long video and have the run only be 5 mins just because they weren't doing anything. IGT when shown like in All Star is a fine exception because it's already kept track of. But in places where it doesn't then it's not worth having.
the leader boards before were abit silly and meme-ish and just seemed to be rushed when put in. things were scattered and didn't blend well with what were the more important categories. (that's why I ran the game for like a day and quit, or didn't even update my new times I got simply because I didn't feel like taking it seriously.
Leader boards never have 100% agreement (i've seen in on multiple occasions) so seeing mixed feelings is understandable. However just leaving simply because of changes is pretty ridiculous & pretty ill-mannered. Understanding that the changes were in order to make the leaderboards better, and wasn't a thing he did for himself is important. Plus more or less people who don't run smash games seriously will never see a reason to change them, regardless if they like them or not. People will submit runs simply because the leaderboard is there and that's how it is in their eyes. Especially if the number of runners isn't that big.
Changes happened literally a day ago, by one person, and voices of others. Which means it can still be unfinished & open to hear ideas, but as it currently stands right now, the leaderboards are on the right track to becoming better and already have reached a perfectly fine peak.
i was considering learning this for the 12 hour challenge and i noticed that jp is used, are there any version differences between jp and us? (outside of text speeds i'm assuming)
i would say just watch runs and use them as guides until mine become released. its the best way to learn the run. That's how i learned most of the game and then even make up youre own strats. so just watch runs of characters you either want to learn or just feel the most comfortable with to start & maybe normal 3 stock or Very Easy 5 stock to start.
while we have no prejudice about "meme" categories; me and pikashy do races of them all the time. however they will not be accepted as an official leader board category. feel free to continue racing it. but the categories have stayed the way they are for a really long time so no real changes will happen. Sorry! I would love to join sometime though! FrankerZ
imho, i think the leaderboards are fine.
¤Mini Update¤
I have decided to start with the character Fox. I have some footage up to BTP, with 5 different outcomes. (different strats used, and how smart improv can save a run/race) going to start into the editing phase of this part & maybe even start a rough draft of the script for commentary. Having a lot of fun so far :)
that would make wayyyy to many categories. its fine with SSB64. but for this game that would be ridiculous. All the characters + dlc + all the game modes, and difficulties (eg all star & classic 0.0, 5.0, 9.0 etc)
What exactly was your method? that made no sense. if you started at the time you did & the run ends on the first frame of "complete" you have a 4:56. not a 4:01 not even close. If you time with the Rule set then you have a 4:40. So where is the "start" and "end" exactly?

These tutorials will consist of strats for each character & it's ILs through the Classic game mode, (probably going to start with Very Easy 5 Stock) The fastest moves and times to use them on certain levels, RNG manipulations/ideas/outcomes, maybe even some Tech, hitbox info, etc. I will try to be as in depth as possible. (I have no real good editing/recording software.) just the basic windows movie maker (ROFL) + obs. So these will take a lot of effort & time to create with far less than stellar quality as I would like. But it's possible I'll upgrade to some other things so who knows.
-
I think I'm going to format this into one character per episode rather than having a huge collection of characters for one video. With both text & commentary, maybe even some controller camera stuff to help explain things in the tutorials. If I really enjoy or get carried away with this, I may even generate animated sequences/visual representations of some things.

I decided on this because I know the leaderboard has been having some confusion and a lot of lack of communication. as well as people taking breaks. New people are starting to get into the community, so I thought this would be a better time than never to begin these videos. Lately I haven't felt like doing full runs, but strat theory, creation, & testing has been on my mind a lot. So i feel like i can knock out two birds with one stone in doing this.
-
If people have character requests or suggestions on ones to start first then go ahead and let me know! I will gladly start with any of them. (except DK) Characters that I could see covering well + quickly will be Fox, Link, Falcon, Ness, & Yoshi. The other members of the cast will require a lot of testing and learning of my own so dont expect those to be out for quite some time!
-
These will not have scheduled updates because laziness can put a sudden hold to it. ROFL As well as other speedgames I'm focusing on, which can take a lot of my time + attention. (sorry!) So they will be released when I'm done with them & if they meet my personal criteria.

If anyone wants to help with it, then shoot me a pm on twitch or simply respond in this thread. I plan on streaming some of the stuff I have done as a preview and to let some people give their thoughts before finalizing and uploading the tutorials.

youtube channel that'll be used: https://www.youtube.com/user/DarkLinktheReaper100 I was considering making a brand new channel just for this, but youtube is really gross now-a-days so Im not too interested in doing that. This channel already has some WRs and cool strat highlights plus other random vids that i have on there that you shouldn't watch. Kappa But if you're interested in picking up some categories you can check out the smash speedrunrelated videos or just the top times on the leaderboard here!

while this does sound like a VERY serious project and I plan on taking them seriously; these are also meant to be for fun & hopefully helpful! I've been inspired by pannenkoek's amazing videos to attempt my hand at these. DO NOT feel like because I am creating these, that Im forcing you, or telling you that, "this is the way you should run it & only use these strats showcased in these videos." There's no proper way to speedrun/play this game! (submitting times obviously must follow the rules tho) With our community and crazy categories, race ideas, conversations, it keeps everything around here fun..i means dead serious.

as i said before these are pretty big projects & with my lack of utilities to create them in high quality, it'll tale a while to get them out there and to you as fast as possible. I AM NOT interested in pirating any software or stuff like that. Plus if you want to create your own then go for it too! There's so much...too much to cover about this game that a single person just can't do. (unless you're M2K)
¤¤(Starting next week, monday/tuesday "MAY" begin some testing with Fox. eg the first start on production.) I'll probably keep you guys updated with video information, release dates, and stuff via this thread.
There's probably a million things I'm forgetting to mention or fix on here..but I am running on hardly any sleep so I wouldn't be surprised ResidentSleeper Thanks :3
lag would make it really hard to compare with NTSC or JP.
does anyone know the timing for RNG manipulation/differences on a 3ds?
even when i posted my runs (with video from a capture card) they got deleted for some reason lmao but people putting 0 effort in trying to record is silly
it is not possible to do without circle pad pro.
Hello, on the speedrun dropbox guide for ORAS only lists one nature on it (gentle) is that the only viable one? or are others useable?
