I found out that you can skip fade-ins and fade-outs if you select a level or hit the "start level" button before the fade begins. If you look, you can see the game attempting to do the fade, but it stops then abruptly cuts to the start level screen. That little fade-in attempt is the visual cue to you successfully completing the trick. It is basically frame perfect, plus you have to do it in complete darkness.
