This is definitely not the right place for this.

If the consoles are separated as different categories then yes. If the consoles all go to the same category, then no, because if the LB is set up correctly then your times will obsolete one another even if it’s on a different platform.

For SM64, emu is it’s own category from N64 so in that case, your emu run would remain as would any N64 times you post.

The general consensus is that site staff stays out of things like this because they leave game/community decisions up to the members of the game/community. In other words, they want to interfere as little as possible.

So, if it’s what you and the other B3 runners want to do, I’d say go for it. You won’t need permission from the site staff to do it. Now if you want opinions from people that’s fine and all. My 2 cents on it is that the Burnout community hold the opinions that are most valid here (and it might be good to check with the people who posted the times on Cyberscore to see if they are okay with having their times posted here on their behalf).

Don’t reject a run just because you THINK it’s fake. If you can prove it’s fake that’s fine, but just thinking a run is fake is not grounds for rejection.

If you have concerns about the run that make you think that, talk to the runner to let them know your concerns and maybe that have an explanation for whatever doesn’t look right to you. If after that you still have doubts with something or they don’t respond to you, then reject it (just make sure you explain why).

I believe Steam is fine. Unless something has changed recently.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs7 years ago

Casually they are fine because it’s just a chance to play the game. For speedrunning, they can often have lots of input delay which can make running on them kinda hard.

I’m not sure what you’re asking.

If you’re talking about submitting a game request, you need to provide a link to some website with some kind of information about the game. This can be Wikipedia or something else.

Emulation of N64 and later consoles is notoriously inaccurate which is why it’s often banned or hidden. That’s really the only consensus there is. Like TheGreatToddman said, it’s game by game how strict they are with it.

You don’t need to keep posting here that you’re not getting notifications (I’m using “you” as a broad way of addressing all users btw, not a specific person).

The admins know it’s a site problem right now and are trying to find out what happened. Posting here that you’re not getting them doesn’t add anything of value and is just cluttering this thread. You’re better off liking a post related to the issue if you’re experiencing it too.

It does look questionable, especially because it doesn’t seem to suffer any otter stuttering or skipping.

Instead of outright rejecting, you can try to reach out to the runner and share your concern with them. Maybe they’ll have some explanation that makes sense about why it skipped like that.

You don’t need to modify an N64, it’s easier to swap the backs of the carts. Take the back of an old, common US cart, unscrew it and screw it onto a JP cart. Then it’ll play in the US N64 fine. The backs are the same size so they fit fine in place of one another and I find this easier and quicker than modifying the console.
1. There is a significant delay between pushing the button and when its highlighted on screen. I'm not sure if/how others have fixed this... I could add delays to everything else in OBS, I was just surprised that there's more delay through the arduino than my crappy $20 io-data gv-usb2.
I’m gonna say you have a bad build/input display or some other issue with the device itself. I’ve used NintendoSpy on controllers and input displays for NES, SNES, and GC and have zero delay between button press and what is reflected in NintendoSpy. If there’s a delay (more than maybe milliseconds at worse), my first instinct would say it’s an issue with the input display itself.

As an unrelated side note, the gv-usb2 is far from crappy lol. It’s widely considered one of the best (if not the best) standard def capture cards due to its good quality and affordable price. You really can’t get much better than that for SD.

If you go with the suggestion in the previous post, make sure you enable the category to sort in descending order. That will let the run with the greatest time be first (which if you’re inputting score as time would be highest score first).

For what it’s worth, running something like a NES/SNES/GB emulator on a Wii as a homebrew application is slower than actual hardware. I think it’s also slower than emulators for a computer. So don’t do it unless you absolutely have no other option for running a game effectively.

I’m not entirely sure what you’re asking.

Most games/communities in here have discords which is where all of the action happens so to speak. Discords are usually where everyone gathers to talk, route, ask for help etc.

Discords are usually linked in the forums for the games, so check there to see if the games you’re looking at have a server setup.

 1. Most people use OBS to record/broadcast their gameplay. It’s not that simple though, if you’ll be streaming from console you’ll need a capture card and maybe some other hardware for splitting the signal between a TV and the capture card.

 2. It’s not required to have splits shown, but it’s helpful to viewers and mods to see the time. Most people use Livesplit as their timer.

 3. splits.io is for sharing splits - you upload the splits files there, it has nothing to do with videos. Most videos are on YouTube or Twitch.

All relevant links for the most part can be found here https://www.speedrun.com/resources

You’ll have to verify with the mods of the game if this is okay, but my personal standpoint is that I would reject any run without game sound.

Audio is big part of verification, and to have random music just makes a run seem more questionable to me because I can’t verify anything about the run in terms of audio matching or whatnot.

Put in headphones and listen to a YT playlist or something lol.

I really don’t know how adding custom music into the site provides anything of value. Only another alleyway for abuse and trolling.

If they aren’t posted in the rules, you’ll need to ask the mods. Most popular games mention in the rules what emulators they allow or ban.

For example, your other post mentioned Super Metroid. From the rules for SM
ZSNES & SNES9x 1.43 and lower are banned
The minis/classics also run slower than regular consoles/emulators for the NES/SNES, so they really aren’t worth buying for the sole purpose of speedrunning.
