Almost a year later and I'm back to testing this again (mainly was looking into the RNG Manip on HDC, which I figured out, guide soon).
Boat Stage OOB
Debug Save during James'animation getting into the boat (you need to quickly skip the cutscene of him getting into the boat and have him turning around as hes sitting down, if you save after he's done this or he doesn't do that animation, the game will crash upon loading the save).
Getting to the other boat landing is initially faster (James' running speed vs boat) however you need to go back to the initial boat landing and "raise" James, then you need to go around the light on the far peer, otherwise the game will crash trying to load the cutscene of James pulling up and getting off the boat.
So overall, not worth it.
Had this randomly happen yet again but this time in the room where you pickup the flashlight, So that and the Hospital Basement with Pyramid Head is two places it is known to happen although I'm wondering if it can just randomly happen anywhere. PS. This is the Japanese "HD EDITION" version, so it's happened on both US and JP versions at this point (fully updated).
Is it easy to modify the main menu? that would be a part of the video and for RNG manip I think we also kinda agreed to include the Konami splash screen too not sure if we actually made that as part of the rules though.
Thanks for the heads up.
Using Princess Heart on the stairs (GOING DOWN) to the right of the turnstiles. Freezes after leaving Hospital, likely to be trying to find the Motel Trigger, or trying to set the new Trigger to go see Vincent at the Motel.
Posting this for future reference, or other people wanting to test this.
Here's the Older Skip from last night which takes you to Heaven's Night instead (going UP the stairs).
PC discs don't typically have a "region" so there's no region lock.
There's zero difference between NTSC/PAL except the title screen for SH2 (and additional languages available in PAL, again, no effect to the speedrun).
No the game requires the disc to be present for it to launch, you could simply make an ISO rip and mount it though.
PAL/Director's Cut is considerably cheaper but still pricey ($70-$100ish) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Silent-Hill-2-Directors-Cut-PC-RARE/124083905134?hash=item1ce3fa226e:g:9P0AAOSwbjpeRxZd
Digital version is definitely faster - they removed the cutscenes for starters, and loads are of course going to be quicker.
UPDATE: Okay I don't think there's actually much difference, I believe the Disc version makes a temporary install and the loads aren't too much faster for Digital. That said the Digital version should have a small benefit of not having to load any cutscenes.
There is no known benefit, the IGT pauses while text scrolls so there's no difference between languages and there's no exclusive glitches that we know about.
And yes that cutscene can freeze the game if you let it play, seems to only happen on PS1/2 though (non emulated platforms).
Yes, there's two Japanese versions: 1.0 and 1.1
All versions can do the Antique Shop out of bounds (it was only discovered like 2 years ago).
The Aglaophatis Glitch (aka Amusement Park skip) will only work on Japanese 1.0 version, otherwise you will get the typical "Can't use this here".
It's easy to tell which version you have by looking at the disc, 1.1 has "Konami THE BEST" on it:
Yeah I was surprised too lol
Looks odd since you never ever see it like that.
I tested this a few months ago and forgot to post it, but I made a highlight of it on YouTube. So I read on Quidrex's guide titled "Star Ranking and Unlockables Guide", and found this part very interesting and don't recall it being mentioned anywhere else:
"If no shot was fired during the whole game a bonus of 100 enemies defeated by shooting is granted; because the last boss of the regular endings require you to either shoot them or get rid of all your ammunition by shooting this bonus is only possible with the UFO ending"
https://www.speedrun.com/sh1/guide/25hhp
So before we go any further, 10 Star is impossible to achieve already because we can only go for the UFO ending, so ultimately useless, however I was still curious, and with our knife strats on the first Airscreamer, this is easily achievable. Here it is from start to finish:
Results Screen:
(I was surprised that it actually just removes the Shooting Style stats entirely, considering it doesn't do that if you don't save, continue, kill by fighting etc.)
I had to switch to Katana for Split Head because there is no way to do the "stab in the mouth strat" and get out in time, its impossible, and using a NG+ weapon may have messed up the test. You would have to stab him in the body with the knife and using Unlimited Health cheat enabled. As of now though it seems you don't get 100 Shooting Kills by not firing at all.
Correct, by about 1-2 mins depending on PS1 model. SCPH-10X (PS one) also seems faster than SCPH-100X-900X (PSX), needs more testing among models though.
Sony POPS emulator is the fastest for RTA (PSP/Vita/TV) + PS2 PopStarter (not official/allowed)
No affect on IGT, WR is currently set on a PS one.
Also there is no JP version on PSN, you'd have to use a disc.
Well you wouldn't need to directly mod the game, you can use something like "Import Player" which IIRC has a "disable FMV" function you can enable before booting your game.
So I randomly come on SRC to find my runs from over 2 years ago suddenly rejected with the reason:
"Does not live up to the new ruleset agreed on by the community."
What exactly is this new ruleset and decided by who? I didn't see much info in the forum here and there's no discord to my knowledge? Seems kinda shitty to not just make a separate category and just flat out reject my runs out of the blue which have been there for 2+ years.
EDIT: Okay so its to do with prebuilt houses and already unlocked stuff, still don't see where this was "agreed on by the community", I certainly didn't have any input on this despite having runs here from way before a lot of the current community even started running the game.
Again make a separate category for prebuilt houses/unlocks since you even have a Cheat% which I'd consider even less legit.
This was found way back when the game was still new, just making a video on it anyway for reference. An invisible wall was added to all later releases at 0:28, you can still do the clip but you can't go any further. The reason they did this was because if you go through the storage room you can easily clip through from the other side (why the player would try to do that just to go all the way back through the level again makes no sense).
