On Mother's Day CD-R 5.0 R4 was released with updates to the Randomizer to get it ready for the new Category Extensions leaderboard where you can submit records for CD-R Add-on mods like Ultimate Tails, the Randomizer, and the Full Audio Remaster Deluxe mod!

Change highlights:

  • Restored Sega CD SS3 behavior to Robotnik appearing on screen during the Metal Sonic race; he will now slow down to either 3 pixels per frame or 4 pixels per frame depending on how far in the race he is -Reset function in the Pause Menu will now respect your Time Zone selection
  • Randomizer Time Warps will also now reset the Stage Timer to 0.00 so the final Play Time will be accurate
  • Legacy.exe will now swap between a 1920x1080 borderless window and Fullscreen mode to alleviate Screen Tearing for 1920x1080 players (edited)

Sonic CD Restored is a unique remaster of Sonic CD made for speedrunners by one of the first Sonic CD speedrunners; it restores all the glitchless speedrun routes from CD93 to CD11 while retaining CD11's routes as well. It restores all the missing stage sprites, palette cycles, fixes all known bugs and restores full fidelity to the BGM/SFX/FMVs.

CD-R adds Amy as a playable character, Special Stage Rush, and implements Naoto Oshima's originally intended instant/no-load Time Warps based on his sketches, interviews, and early development screenshots.

  • Added all playable characters to Time Attack with their own records (Thanks to Epoli)
  • Sound Test replaced in the Extras Menu with a new Unlockable: Sound Test Codes

  • Fixed a CD11 bug that degraded your bounce height with every badnik bounce instead of increasing it
  • Fixed a CD11 bug in Debug Mode that would cause the camera to jerk the first time performing a Super Peel Out after transforming into a ring
  • Beating the game in under 15 minutes with Sonic now required to unlock the Drop Dash (unless a Twitch viewer turns you into Sonic when playing with CrowdControl)

4.0 R4 change highlights:

  • F1 function key now loads Stage Select
  • F5 no longer forces you to resume from a Lamp Post
  • F1/F2/F3/F5 now executes the PauseSound command before executing the Stagemode_Load command
  • Legacy.exe updated for gameplay parity and now included in the main download as an option for low end PC's
  • Restored CD93 Super Peel Out physics (you can jump over a specific set of spikes in SS3 with the Super Peel Out now; affects the Amy spindash as well)
  • Restored behavior to a specific Falling Block in WW1 and Moving Spring in MM1 that had changed due to the increased Screen Width; 400 --> 426 (Thanks to InceptionKitten)
  • Restored Leaderboards button to the main menu; now takes you to Speedrun.com's CD-R leaderboard (Windows only)
  • Fixed a CD11 bug that caused a player to do extra frames of skid animations after getting hurt or flying, thus preventing the player from performing a spindash, or turning them around without their input, or just plain slowing them down.
  • New bonus screen for players who are able to complete the game under 15 minutes

  • Debug Mode retooled to be speedrunner focused. Standing still will display Xpos and Ypos as it always has, but when the player's velocity is greater than 0 it will display the player's Xvelocity, Yvelocity, and total Player Speed.
  • Restarting from the Pause Menu after selecting a stage from Stage Select will now undo the destruction of the Robot Transporter and Metal Sonic Holograms.

  • New Speedrun Category for Sonic: 100% (must unlock all achievements in a single playthrough)
  • Just In Time achievement unlockable via the built in Autosplitter
  • Restored Tails' Sonic 3 tails positions to his Running sprites and Super Peel Out sprites so now they actually rotate in a full 360 degrees
  • Restored Tails' Sonic 3 look of determination to his Swimming sprites
  • Restored CD93 Special Stage Timer functionality that stops the Timer the same frame as the last UFO is destroyed, instead of when Sonic lands

Small QOL update

  • Restarting from the Pause Menu on Palmtree Panic 1 will no longer add time into the Auto-splitter. Deaths will still add time.

I've wanted to put this in CD-R since the first version, but the scripting epiphany just didn't hit me until now. • Restored Sega CD functionality that prevents a player from jumping when attempting to charge a Super Peel Out or Spindash on the first available frame after the TitleCard sequence

CD-R is just getting a minor update here, mostly bug fixes, but of consequence is an improvement to the Autosplitter. In a recent run a player died after touching a lamp post, and so it recorded their death time accurately, but then when the player finished the stage it didn't subtract the time from which the Lamp Post recorded. So taking that into account:

  • Lamp Posts now reset the timer when you die in order for the Autosplitter to give you an accurate final time.

3.0 adds a built in Autosplitter / Results Summary! It logs every stage completion time, stage restarts, game exits, and deaths!

  • The FMV's got pumped up to 720p with the credits completely remade with CD93's font and restored missing text.
  • The SFX are now crystal clear 16-bit files instead of the 8-bit files the Steam version had to use.
  • And the sprinkles on the icing of it all, the Quartz Quadrant foreground crystals have finally been restored.

2.0 R2 adds speedrun restorations to the alternate Timezones like QQ1 Future and SS2 Past. It adds a Drop Dash for parity with Sonic Origins (and can be disabled in the Settings menu right under the Spin Dash toggle).

This update importantly adds compatibility for the Mobile and Origins data files, so now Sonic CD Restored can work with any version of the game. Stereo SFX have been added, the music remastered from FLAC files, and both Sonic Origins FMVs have been imported as well as the original Sega CD FMV's as a separate download.

Beating the game as Amy unlocks a Custom OST menu to let you make your own Sonic CD dream OST. It's my birthday, now I'm gonna light my fireworks with some kick ass speedruns!

2.0 adds Amy as a playable character (hop onboard the Amy train now cause she's more busted than Knuckles!), includes handfuls of more bug fixes to the Steam version, and even restores the CD93 level select code which you can input at the title screen!

This is the one year anniversary of Sonic CD Restored, on this day one year ago, I uploaded the first release of the mod that would become Sonic CD Restored. I didn't know exactly where my mod was headed at the time, and it has been an incredible journey!

1.9 restores the CD93 UFO Hitbox and restores Sonic's tighter turn radius in Special Stages. There's also an IGT timer added to the Special Stages so the autosplitter can record times and the All Time Stones speedrun rules have been adjusted to use IGT instead of RTA.
