Exploits considered major glitches in No Major Glitches runs
Actualizado 6 months ago por Smathlax

This guide outlines all the major glitches that are prohibited in NMG, and gives advice for how to avoid getting your NMG run rejected.

Note that this is not a tutorial for how to perform any of the glitches.

For tricks labelled with an "abuse" clause, the trick itself is not considered a major glitch, but its abuse is. In practice, this means that the trick may be performed - even intentionally - as long as it is not abused.

Prohibited major glitches:

  • Drop Glitch (video)
    • Tip: It is impossible to perform a drop glitch without holding any directional inputs when you jump
  • Corner Clip (abuse) (video)
    • When used in combination with the Drop Glitch (as in the video), the Corner Clip is prohibited
    • A corner clip without a drop glitch is only prohibited if abused (for example by clipping through a wall to get a light seed)
  • Virtual ledges/beams/fissures, including:
    • Getting an extension from an unsuccessful ledgewarp (video)
    • Virtual fissure in the Windmills (video)
      • Note: you can tell that it’s a virtual fissure because you cannot move up/down on it
      • On the other hand, fissure 1 and fissure 2 are real and are allowed
      • In practice, this simply means that Windmills Skip 2 via the red plate is prohibited (video)
  • Ledgewarp (video 1, video 2, video 3)
  • Ledgefall (abuse), including:
    • Falling from a height that would otherwise kill you (video 1, video 2)
    • Killing yourself faster than what would otherwise be possible (video 1, video 2, video 3)
    • Cancelling a stagger (video)
      • For reference, here is the same movement but without a ledgefall
  • Horizontal Airwalk, including:
    • Airwalking outside the bounds of a beam (video 1, video 2)
      • Note: getting into an airwalk state and then moving only within the bounds of the beam, as shown here, is allowed
    • Snapping back to the corner of a beam after getting into an airwalk state (video)
  • Vertical Airwalk outside the bounds of a fissure (video)
    • This vertical airwalk is achieved by grabbing that fissure from an angle
    • Note: getting into a vertical airwalk state and then moving only within the bounds of the fissure is allowed, as long as this is not abused to achieve something that would otherwise not be possible from that fissure
  • Jumping from an Airstep, including:
    • Jumping in an arbitrary direction from the end of a fence (video)
    • Jumping in an arbitrary direction after horizontally wallrunning onto a slide (video)
    • Jumping in an arbitrary direction after getting an elevated position from a short vertical wallrun (video)
    • Jumping in an arbitrary direction after landing mid-air from a short horizontal wallrun (video)
    • Jumping in an arbitrary direction after failing to grab a vertical corner ring when grinding down (video)
    • Jumping in an arbitrary direction while being mid-air near some collision (video)
    • In general, any state from which you can jump in an arbitrary direction just before falling is an airstep and jumping from it is prohibited
    • Tip: As long as you do not do any of these intentionally, your run will probably be accepted; for example, if you do one of these by accident and save 1 second, this is fine
  • Ultimate Glitch (video)
    • Note: this is a special case of the Airstep glitch
  • Dashing from a Combat Airstep (video)
    • If you get a combat airstep, you should immediately stop dashing to prevent your run from being invalidated
    • If you do a few dashes out of inertia after getting a combat airstep, this is fine; however, you should not be keeping this up for more than a few seconds, else you will risk your run being invalidated; you should let go of all inputs as quickly as possible
  • Elika Clip (video)
  • Airsink (video)
  • c storage (abuse), including:
    • Entering the first fight in Warrior’s Fortress while being near corruption (video)
      • If you do this by accident (can easily happen), the best way to get rid of your c storage is by reloading the game after the fight, as shown here, and your run will remain valid (it’s about the same speed as not reloading the game)
    • Entering the final phase of the Alchemist fight in the Observatory while being near corruption (video)
    • Fast travelling to a different level while in gas (video)
    • Tip: If you do any of these by accident, your biggest enemy is not the moderator, but the game; abusing this glitch typically involves deathwarping somewhere very far away, so in practice this is a runkiller anyway, as shown here
  • Blue Mirror (video)

Other notes:

  • As of 8th September 2024, First Fight Skip via AI Break is allowed (video)

If you have any doubts about whether a trick is prohibited in NMG, please consult a moderator.
