Can i change the difficulty mid run?

For example having it on easy for Toriel and Hard for Papyrus.

Unless if someone else confirms this for me i dont see why not. youd be losing time hitting esc going into settings to change difficulty and going back. but im not quite sure if that time loss is worth it for a time save :D
