Are you asking about the cover or the game page background? If you're asking about for the cover, check out @Oreo321 answers. If you're asking about for the game page background, then click "Edit Theme" (below the "Edit Game" option) and then upload the picture on the "Background" tab. Not only that, you can customize the trophy / logo / foreground of the page. So feel free to do so! :)

It's always the new ones. If you upload the plain ones (is the one without the time segment; just the splits name), then your time segment will not be there after you upload it, thus you need to retimed it again (or so on).

As long as your runs qualified (not breaking the game rules and such) on a leaderboard, then yes. Also, there's no need to worry about "Xth places" submission. If you think that you get a good time runs, then submit it to the leaderboard. As simple as that.

Majority uses OBS due to easy setup and such, so i recommend using that.
Depends on what speedrun timer are you using. Are you using Livesplit? or WSplit? or Llanflair? or other ones? Or.. are you asking about how to put a timer in your speedrun?
In my case it's immediately. Same as above, i also saw the Grey ones. But yeah, it might be different cases to some degree, either because of their browser choice (i use Edge, so dunno if it has the same effect as Chrome or not) or just a random cache issue.

In order to make a sub-categories, you need to make a category (well duh..) that will be given the sub. To make a sub-category, go to Edit Game options, and pick Variables. Then, make a variable with a value that'll be added as a Sub Category (the best example would be Any% with difficulties as a sub-categories). After you make the variables (and also the values), click the three dotted icon at top right of the variable, and then choose "Edit Variable" option. After that, setup the preference category and then turn on the "Use as sub-category" option.

(Ahh yes.. another softlock thread..) You can get softlocked during "Flower" section in Chapter 4 (Grassland) when you doing a converstion, while bypassing the movement animation (the slow walk animation when you talk to a character), This interaction will make your character falls into an animation loop without any input can be given.
At the moment, there's no solution to fix this issue. Restarting the checkpoint will puts you back into the early state, forcing you get three flowers back.
For the past couple of weeks, i've been speedrunning Carto & Edna, and both of em are fun and easy puzzle game to speedrun. You can get softlocked during "Dinner" section in Chapter 7 (Volcano) if you interact with the dinner table (a pop up text will appear) while Carto entering the dinner cutscene. This interaction will make the pop up text stays in the screen and no game input can be given, resulting an infinite dinner cutscene.
At the moment, there's no solution to fix this issue. Restarting the checkpoint might corrupt the save.
Ahh my bad, i didn't see that bit. I'm not sure if it's mandatory to also watch the credits after getting all the puzzle. I mean.. you can just force quit and then open the menu again. I guess it's better to wait for mods to answer.
Based on the rules, yeah. You need to end the game. Also, what do you mean by "losing time on credits"? Time ends on white fade out on the Airstrip (right before the credit starts).
