Yes, the MT won't release until you start driving straight.
Unfortunately there is no comprehensive tutorial for MKSC as of right now, and no explanatory videos. Most information can be found on the MKSC board of the Players' Page forum. The PP is also where most MKSC competition happens (in Time Trials).
For mini-turbos (MTs for short), you have to slide for at least one full second in one direction to charge it. You can then release the MT by driving straight. Once a MT is charged, it remains stored until either you release it or lose speed (by hitting an object or driving off-road, for example).
For the start boost, you have to start holding gas once Lakitu reaches the top of his bobbing motion between the second and third lights. MKSC's start boost is the easiest in the series, so once you get the timing down you should be able to get it every time.
There are several active MKSC Time Trialers, and if you post on the MB (the forum I linked) we will gladly help you out with any questions you may have.
I'd like to have a trace of category discussion here on the forum since this is much easier to access than digging through Twitter. I'll start off by simply linking to indy's pastebin.
Adding a "finish all missions with 3 stars" category seems pointless considering that star count is purely dependent on your time on each mission, so an ideal All Missions run 3-stars every mission anyways.
To unlock the 7th set of missions, you have to get at least 1 star on every other mission.
Apologies for the delay, I've added Gogoku's run (as well as its its misc. category components) and cleared the pending approval queue.
As I mentioned in my second post in this thread, I think that it would be a good idea for there to be one or two dedicated MK7 mod(s). No one stepped up since then though. If you're interested, please read the opening post of this thread and reply there.
Also, if you don't have the desire and/or money to purchase a 3DS capture card, you can always go the "old-school" route and film your play with a webcam. There's plenty of precedent for doing this in the Mario Kart community: a lot of MKDS wi-fi matches were filmed this way (and these videos were often as long as, if not longer than, an MK7 individual cup run), and top MKDS and MK7 players have done live TT videos to get a proper camera angle for the gameplay (since replays are garbage in both games) and to show their hand movements when they play.
Mario Kart Time Trials website, it's been around since the late 90s.
Time Trials will not be added to speedrun.com. If you're interested in them, there's already the Player's Page, which implements Time Trials leaderboards far better than anything we can do here.
I'll gladly add a new MK7 moderator if someone presents themselves who fulfills the criteria I listed in the series forum's sticky.
A friend of mine has also had MK7 runs removed with no explanation whatsoever.
Can you elaborate on this?
Rookie, the reason your old time was removed was because you edited it, instead of submitting a new run.
I'm well aware that Rookie is a known and proven Time Trialer. However, that doesn't exempt him from the proof policy here, especially considering how minimalistic it is. The proof policy isn't there for me, it's to respond to the speedrun.com MK7 community's desire for legitimacy in their leaderboards. Most of the runners here are not part of the Time Trial community, and as such have little to no knowledge of players like Rookie. Enforcing a minimum of proof at the top of these leaderboards ensures that newcomers and outsiders aren't misled into thinking that the top times are illegitimate.
Adding Gogoku's run seems like a decent compromise for the time being. I'll contact him and see if he's ok with it being added here.
Rhodechill: Regardless of your attempt at cherry picking, jtmagicman raised a valid point and I addressed it in the best way I could think of. As I said in my previous post, if you have a better compromise, then I'm all ears.
marvjungs: As mentioned in one of my previous posts, the current policy is that video proof is only required for new WRs.
I understand and share your concerns about the difficulties of providing video proof for MK7 runs, Rhodechill. However, I also understand the speedrun.com competitors' desire for legitimacy. Requiring video proof for new WRs is the best compromise I've been able to come up with so far. If you or anyone else has a better solution, then I'm all ears.
Upon consideration, I think your request for WRs to have video proof is reasonable, despite issues with recording for 3DS. That being said, I don't think that it should apply retroactively, as mentioned before.
Also, given the current size of the MK7 community here, I think it would be best to appoint one or two dedicated MK7 mods.
I'm opening this thread as a general moderation log for the Mario Kart series.
As the first item of the log, after discussing with several other moderators, we've decided to remove all of BigMac's runs (SMK, MKW, MK7, MK8) due to suspicious submission behavior throughout the Mario Kart series (as well as elsewhere on the site). He will need to provide video proof to be able to rejoin any of the series' leaderboards.
I agree that something needs to be done for proof requirements here. That being said, I am still reluctant to enforce full video proof for runs because of the difficulty of live recording 3DS. Ideally I would like to find some compromise that would maintain legitimacy of the leaderboards without being too problematic for runners. Even if we were to enforce video proof for Top 3 (for example), I think that it shouldn't be applied retroactively unless there's some valid reason for doubting the legitimacy of existing runs.
even when i posted my runs (with video from a capture card) they got deleted for some reason lmao
The only run of yours that has been rejected was a Flower Cup run that you had mistimed and had re-submitted (with the correct timing) before the mistimed submission was rejected.
I believe the agreement that happened was if a runner had a top 5 time they had to show video proof, along with splits (either screenshoted or on the stream).
I don't follow this community too closely, so I don't have much input to give overall, but I am curious as to why showing splits should matter at all if a run has video proof.
All runs on the leaderboards should be single segment.
I'm aware that there are some questionable individual cup times on the leaderboards currently. I started investigating them about a month ago, but I was busy during the holiday season. I'll get back to it soon.
MKDD is the closest to MKDS. MK64 uses the same basic MT principles, but you have to space them out a lot more and can't snake. Both games have active speedrun and Time Trial communities.
