As mentioned in the run comment, it's from my All Cups run. You can get the video link from the All Cups leaderboard.
MKWRs only tracks WRs (as its name implies). The main Time Trial rankings are on the Players' Page: http://mariokart64.com/mkw/.
Given how there isn't a clear consensus here on exactly what NTR does and its potential impact on MK7 speedruns, I'm going to say it isn't allowed. However, if someone can provide conclusive evidence that shows that NTR does not give any kind of speedrunning advantage for MK7, I see no reason to continue banning it.
I've also added N3DS as a selectable platform.
The community is small and recording handhelds is a pain, so for now there are no video requirements. Videos are however encouraged, of course.
Time Trial leaderboards are on the Players' Page: http://www.mariokart64.com/mksc/.
Sounds like a cool hack, but the overclocking/higher frame rate means that it isn't acceptable for speedruns.
If Jcool is unhappy about the current state of the MKW mod team, I would prefer to hear it directly from him.
Thanks for letting me know, I rejected them. For reference, I'm fairly sure you can delete your own runs, so you don't need to go through me if something like this happens again.
Feel free to contact me directly if there are pending runs more than ~10 days old.
I won't be adding character-specific leaderboards to speedrun.com. Even if you ignore that they're not suitable for this site, SMK competition here is sparse enough that I won't be adding any new categories unless there is a very compelling reason to do so.
As far as the community at wide goes, the vast majority of SMK competition resides in the Players' Page. As you can tell if you visit the page, there are no character-specific leaderboards, despite the fact that the rankings contain several hundred players. Only a few people have ever bothered setting times with lesser characters after switching to Bowser/DK Jr., and there's never been any discussion of having other characters receive special treatment on the main leaderboards (aka separate rankings).
That being said, you're free to run the game with whichever character you like. Nowhere in the rules does it say that you have to use a specific character. As it stands right now, Niakky's 3rd place time on speedrun.com for All Cups (1P) is done with Koopa.
I have read this thread. I don't think this category is a good idea, there's already All Cups for a full-game run, and you can play Time Trials if you want a "pure execution" experience. I also think that using IGT for this would make it even worse because it would require everyone to calculate their time manually for every single run.
Ah, fair enough. I'm pretty sure I've seen what happened in your video back in 2012 or so though.
The MKWRs site that BlackYoshi123 linked to is the go-to place for WRs, but if you want leaderboards then you should head to the Players' Page: http://www.mariokart64.com/mk7/.
This was long overdue, but I removed all of speedrunner123's MK7 runs due to how strong some of his claimed times were (such as 8:13 Banana Cup, 8:59 Leaf Cup, and 9:16 Lightning Cup). He will need to provide video proof to be able to rejoin the MK7 leaderboards.
I'm open to improving the leaderboard's layout, but I'm not sure how moving the current misc categories into the IL chart would be an improvement.
I added ZZMT as a variable because most consoles aren't able to do it (without modification), and I think it's relevant information to display about a run. It's not just a movement option you choose to use or not.
First of all, thank you to Racingmonster for bringing the activity here to my attention, I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise. I would have preferred to have continued the discussion in the Mario Kart forum instead of involving admins and unrelated third-parties, but oh well.
To give some background on the situation, I am currently the only series mod for Mario Kart (there used to be a couple others, but they stepped down a while back). I consider my goal as series mod to maintain a similar level of board quality across all Mario Kart games. This was simple to do when the boards were just starting out here on speedrun.com, as all the games had the same basic category (32 Tracks for MKW), with a couple additions for specific games (like All Missions for MKDS). However, as the Mario Kart community here grew, I took a step back for games I am less involved in (namely MKW and MK8) and appointed mods via an open and public application process in this thread. I've since had little input when it comes to moderation for either of those games, although I do read their forums regularly and occasionally discuss matters with their respective mods.
Jump forward to yesterday, when GamingAori sent me a message on Twitter asking me for my opinion in this thread. As requested, I provided my opinion, which is that all these extra categories are silly and shouldn't be added. Today I woke up to a request for me to be demodded in what seems like a gross overreaction, to say the least.
As far as the conversation here goes, I've had plenty of category requests in the past. If I were to add all of them, Mario Kart would have categories like 50cc, 100cc, Mirror, all tracks in Time Trials, 100%, All Missions 3 Stars, All Missions except for World 7, 32 Tracks in random order, etc. I don't think that mods should just blindly add new categories just because someone requested them. I've also noticed that many Mario Kart category requests come from the same small group of people that seem to have formed a vocal minority on the forums, so I can't help but question whether they actually represent the game's community like they claim.
I have no idea where these allegations that I've deleted categories come from. To my knowledge, the only MKW category that has ever been removed was 100%, which TheCrazyCroco added following a request in this thread but was later removed by consensus between all three mods because there had been no runs submitted after several weeks (if not months).
All this being said, I'm not claiming that I'm perfect either. In fact, I was supposed to contact admins months ago to set up subcategories for various games in the series, but I never got around to doing it and forgot about it for a while. Regardless, I think it's ridiculous that this thread was used in an attempt to demod me as a response to my complying with GamingAori's request to provide my opinion on adding extra MKW categories.
